I haven’t read any books by the author since the Nauti series and now I remember why I liked her so much! Talk about twisting and turning in the story, just when you know what is going to happen, it doesn’t! This is definitely one of those books that make you lose sleep because you simply can’t put it down! A contemporary tale of an age old story about money, power, and control.
I hadn’t read the first book in the series and I do think it would have filled in a few of the gaps, but overall, it can be read on its own and still be enjoyed.
Journey has been running from her life for many years. She was forced into an engagement by her parents and felt her only option was to leave the country, come to America, and get lost there. When she thinks that she is safe, she gets a little too close to a man she crushed on when she was a teenager.
Ivan realizes almost immediately who Crimsyn/Journey is and knows that he can protect her from those chasing her if she asks. But the situation turns deadly and he has to step in or lose her entirely.
The heat and steam from this story is over the top hot! These two are an inferno when they get together and I couldn’t put it down, nor did I want to! The characters aren’t exactly who you think they are yet they are perfect for each other.
I received an ARC from the publisher for an honest and unbiased review. No compensation was promised or received for this review.
Dagger's Edge is Ivan and Journey's story. We got introduced to them as side characters in book one. Ivan is Amara's father who was the heroine in book one. Journey, known as Crymson in book one befriended Amara for reasons I was not sure of at that time. Journey is the daughter of Ivan's enemy who has been running from her family for years.
While you don't really learn anything important about Ivan and Journey's relationship in book one, there are many side characters in this book that make it important to read this series in order to keep everything straight. Even then I admit I felt out of the loop on some of the characters. I have learned that this series is a spin off of another and is probably the reason to some confusion.
Despite feeling a bit out of the loop, I am thoroughly enjoying the Brute Force series. I will be looking up the Elite-Ops series as well, since I am pretty fascinated with some of these side characters and I want learn more about them.
4 Star Review Dagger’s Edge (Brute Force #2) by Lora Leigh
This is Ivan Resnova and Crimsyn "Syn" Delaney story.I read the first book in this series not realising that this series is a spin off from another of Ms Leigh’s series.
There was a great deal of chemistry between Ivan and Syn and it was scorchingly hot. Dagger’s Edge had action, suspense, danger and intrigue which kept me interested.
I had a hard time engaging with the characters but that is more me than them although I did like how feisty Syn/Journey was and that she held her own against the grumpy Russian. Will Ivan be able to keep Syn safe or will it all be in vain?
There were secrets, lies and surprises and Ms. Leigh wove an interesting story.
I received this book through the publisher and Netgalley.
3 1/2 Star Review.....
Dagger’s Edge was an interesting second book in the Brute Force series, and while this is not my favourite series by this author, the books are entertaining and have plenty of the expected erotic content that melts the pages and an adequate storyline to keep the reader coming back. The characters were likeable and the plot has action, danger, suspense and some seriously HOT romance. I’m sure lovers of anything Lore Leigh will find this book to their liking.
Crimson "Syn" Delaney thought she had escaped her past as Journey Taite by reinventing herself. But then she meets Amara Resnova and befriends her. She goes home with Amara hoping that her father, Ivan Resnova, will not recognize her. She remembers all of the horror that her family caused to Ivan's family and knows that he would not want to have anything to do with her.
But Ivan does know who Syn really is and he never got over his fascination of her. His original plan to use Journey to revenge his family takes a different turn when he realizes he has feelings for her. Journey does not believe him at first . She thinks he only wants to use her for revenge. They both come to terms with their true feelings for each other.
Crimson is the daughter and granddaughter of two horrible, murderous, controlling men. The rest of her family is almost as bad. She has enough one night and, disappears, hoping she can start a new life. Ivan Resnova has a history of his family being Russian Crime Lords but, he has been riding under the radar for years, hoping to live a halfway peaceful life and, keep his daughter safe. He has never loved since he saw his family slaughtered in front of him when he was 12. He has only loved his daughter. Problem is that he has always been fascinated by "Syn:"
Lucky for both, he happens to be there one night when her family thugs attempt to kidnap her. Ivan takes her away and, finally, has a chance at the woman who has always fascinated him, even though she fights him every step of the way.
He just has to keep them both alive!
This story was seamless and intense and steamy.! I hated to see the end because, I wanted to read more!!!
A big thank you to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is the second in a series. I think it needs to be read in order. I read the first and was still slightly confused. This is a slightly dark (creepy) complicated intense story about greed. The main characters are Ivan who wants to rescue And protect Journey/Syn. Syn just wants to be safe. I got confused about ages as Ivan has a 13 year old daughter! I enjoyed most of the story but there was a lot of violence. I give it a 3.5 rating.
Holy Hotness Batman!!!!
Known for explosive, erotic, suspense-filled romances, Lora Leigh brings it all, fast and hard in Dagger’s Edge.
Dagger’s Edge is a story about the daughter of a ruthless and corrupt businessman, who gets caught up in a war for power. Her only hope is another criminal…an older man…from her past…that she fell for years ago…
Heavy on the steam, Leigh totes that fine line of balancing plot with pleasure in this sizzling hot romantic suspense. This is not a light-hearted read, but a brutal, erotic, white knuckle reading adventure.

Dagger's Edge (Brute Force #2) by Lora Leigh The most I can give this 3 1/2 stars.... I really enjoyed Collision Point and was so looking forward to this book. Ivan and Journey "Sin" continue the story with a lot of the same characters from the first book. Thanks to the publisher and #NetGalley for letting me preview this book. The journey is full of danger and a lot of steamy sex... to get to their HEA.
I wasn't sure about this book at first but ended up really enjoying the story. The main problem I had was being unsure the age difference between "Syn" & Ivan. Once I found out it wasn't quite as much as I thought, I was able to enjoy their developing relationship. This is a great continuation of the Brute Force series, & I can't wait to read Beau's story next. Highly recommend this book!
I could not even finish this, it was so messed up/weird/creepy. At first I didn't know Ivan had a kid at 13 (??!!?? how plausible) so I thought for sure he was older considering Syn is friends with his daughter. Also, what is up with the trend of all these big badass guys being in their late 20s and finding teenagers hot. Isn't that a little sketchy.
I loved this book it was full of action, adventure, and romance also alot of steamy times I loved Ivan he is the definition of a tough alpha male he was sweet and sexy ass hec. I love every Lora Leigh book ive ever read she is one of my go to Authors and she sure has not disappointed with Daggers Edge!!
This was a great adventure with twists and turns until the very end. Tragic to want the readers to understand what life is like with criminal elements. Ivan had at a young age faced the rape and death of his mother and had to live with that image and became the man he is by knowing life isn't always fair. Journey living under the controlling conditions of her father and grandfather wanted more out of life than they wanted her to have. A well written perfectly paced story pulling you in from the start.
#2 in the Brute Force series. This novel has all the requirements of a steamy romance! There is also a lot of suspense thrown in there. I feel that I need to go back and read the first book however in order to understand parts of this one. It is definitely a good series for me and I highly recommend it. Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Kindly provided with an ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review....
This one was just not for me. I tried, I really did but I just found Journey/syn our leading lady well annoying. So yeah, yeah I get the whole mob princess set to marry the man daddy chooses. However her little rebellion doesn't rally get that far when fast forward and she's right up close and personal with one of daddy's associates......Ivan. Ivan who happens to be the father of one of her friends....lets just stop there. So unfortunalty this story line was not one I found myself engaged with.
I did finish but only just. Maybe its your cup of tea.
Many thanks for the opportunity x
Later peeps x
Gifted read by Netgalley for an honest review.
This book could have easily been a 4/5 star read had it been edited, reviewed correctly. Now I don't care to much about words misspelled here and there but context and the flow of a book that matters! From the very beginning this book was hard to follow. I don't know if you're supposed to read the first book in this series first or not, but I was totally lost! Had the characters themself not grabbed my attention and the actual story not been unique I would not have finished this book!
Romance, suspense, mystery, sexy times are all wrapped into this very good story. I emphasize story not the layout! At times I had to re-read a part just to make sure I didn't miss anything because it didn't flow smoothly! And don't even get me started on the fact that this story seemed like the second part of a bigger story! Many, many times you the reader have to figure out what's going on or suspect what has happened in another book to understand this book. Completely lost in the beginning of this book, but the story and characters make you continue reading instead of a DNF!
My recommendation is check out the first book before reading this one to see if it's a cliffhanger or just a happy for now ending. If it isn't, read this book knowing it's confusing and hard to follow what with the flow of writing totally not a smooth transition from subject and different characters pov.
"Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review."
Loved this book very much. It had a great amount of suspenseful romance and the storyline was great! I highly recommend!
It was an alright book. It wasn't so good that I would read it over and over but not so bad that I would set it on fire if I had the paper version of it. It probably didn't help much that I really didn't like the main characters and wasn't really too fussed with the outcome of their stories. I do love this author and I suppose there will always be one book in a series that just doesn't resonate and perhaps this is the one for her.
I came across this ARC on NetGalley and the premise sounded interesting, so I requested it. I have not read any other books by this author but thought I would give this one a try. I am not sure what I was expecting, but certainly not what I got out of it…confusion and disappointment. The idea of the book was good but the writing and execution not so much. I was confused from the beginning and never quite caught up to the story. There were a lot of gaps, unexplained tidbits, overlooked outcomes from incidents and the overall story just did not flow well. I actually ended up skimming quite a bit of the book because it was just not holding my interest. It just seemed like words were thrown together quickly trying to make it work but it just fell flat. There were some parts of the story that I did find intriguing and wish they would have been expanded on more, but the unexplained and silly seemed to have taken the lead. Sadly, I do not think I will be reading more of this series.
