I am a fan of this series, but this book dragged on terribly to me. I liked Sabina. She wasn’t some damsel in distress, and she wasn’t rash in situations she was not educated in. Roman was cool, V was just kind of there, and Camlo was sweet. The problem was the majority of the book was spent talking about what they needed to do, instead of just doing things. I also thought it was weird that the conflict and the sword that needed to be obtained weren’t really about Roman. He was connected because he is a dragon and V is his friend, but it wasn’t his personal issue. Because it was so much about V and Sabina’s Romani family it seemed like V should’ve had a much bigger role in this book, instead hanging of around in the background like scenery or unconscious. Also I wish they said what Camlo’s disability was. I was also disappointed with the side stuff focused on the Fae. Usually those chapters have things occur that affect the overall story, but like the rest of this book it was just a lot of talking not doing.
I’m not giving up on the series, but I do feel like this was a waste. If you’re a fan you could read the first chapter and the last two chapters and get everything you need to be up to date for the next installment. Finally I wish the writer would combine the multiple series. Because although each series focus on different species, the overall story is all encompassing. I wish there was a name for all of the species and the books were ordered by release date so a new reader would easily follow along. They could still keep the numbers as is, like how Sherrilyn Kenyon does with the Dark Hunter books and their offshoots.
Nice continuation of the Dark Kings series. It's heavy on characters, dangerous situations, and angst but light on the romance....which was fine with me. I thought Roman and Sabina were good together.
This book is considered a stand alone, however, I've read the last few books in this series, and knew most of the characters, but I still got a little lost a time or two....although it did not take away from my enjoyment of this book.
All in all, I thought this was an excellent addition to the series and recommend it and the Dark King (and the companion Reapers) series.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias.
This is Book 14 in the Dark Kings series. The way the book starts, you think it’s going to be Vlad’s story but it’s Roman’s story. It tells the background about Vlad but Roman takes over the story. Sabina has the Sight and her grandmother tells her the story that has been passed down through her family about the Dragon Kings. Now she, along with her brother, Camlo, get to meet Roman and Vlad, who are both Dragon Kings. But she wonders about the truth of that carried down tale and whether its really been told correctly. This book has so much exciting drama happening in it. It kept me on the edge of my chair as I read it. Now I’m going back to catch up on the first of the Dragon Kings! I voluntarily read and reviewed this book that I received from Netgalley.
This story can be read fairly as standalone - romance, but There is more in it when you consider plot That follows events in The whole meaning.
Roman and V are looking for V's sword That was stolen Long Time ago. This will put Sabina on their way. She is a gypsy. She has Powers.
What is Her part in everything? And how everything will go when their paths cross?
Good read, not as steamy as I expected it to be but still really Good with entertaining characters and plot.
This is another wonderful well written story in the Dark Kings series, Ms Grant has surpassed herself, Roman and Sabina are destined to be together.
I received a copy from Netgalley and I am voluntarily leaving my own honest opinion
Once again I am thrilled to be able to enter the world of the Dragon Kings and their mates, experience the troubles and explore the strange situations that they find themselves in. Roman's realization is a simmering burn that slowly reveals itself as the danger of finding V's sword increases. Add in Camlo, a human male who speaks to animals, various characters who's role forwards the story, and a romance that bursts into flame.
Amazing paranormal romance, extremely well written with many twists and turns.
Definitely a must read.
This novel was wow. So freaking good. V is going out to look for his sword again and because disaster strikes every time he goes it alone Roman has decided he will be going with him. That's all well and dandy until they meet the gypsy descendants of those whole stole his sword originally. They go back to Roman's land where they learn that the sword has been hidden deep in a mountain. But the fae and druids who seem to be behind everything will not make it easy but then again when has anything been easy for the dragon kings. Will getting the sword back solve any of their problems or only create more questions?
It’s been such a long time since I’ve absolutely loved a book in this series. I’ve been following it since the warriors and that has to be over 30 books ago. I’ve been feeling like this series is dragging and lacking that spark that I first saw. This book has restored that faith for me. And it was simply because there’s a new aspect in this book that Donna has never written in this series before or any that I know of.
Sabina is a gypsy. When she was a child she was always moving around until tragedy struck and her mother moved them somewhere where the could build a life. Her mother had another child, Camlo. He is developmentally delayed; a child in a mans body. That part really spoke to me because of my profession. What I loved most was that the Kong’s, Rhi, and Eilish never batted an eye at it. They accepted it without any problem and that’s what gave me faith again. So simple but true.
Now to the story... Sabina’s ancestors were responsible for taking V’s sword. What seemed as a hostile move to V was a move to save mankind for Sabina’s ancestors. There was always more to it but V could never remember.
Roman has made it his mission to help V no matter what. He believes that they all owe it to him, especially Roman himself. They leave to V’s homeland hoping to find the answers they need. They find Sabina and Camlo. Camlo seems to be the key to V figuring out what he can’t remember. Camlo is half Romani and can speak to animals. He already knew everything that was to know about the King’s but never told Sabina. She shielded him all his life that she pushed aside her sight where Camlo accepted it fully.
They both leave their home to help V knowing that it could cost them their lives but they believed in righting the wrongs done to him. While doing this, Sabina begins to accept her gifts as she should have. She also grows closer to Roman and we all know how that’ll go. They’re really good for each other and their chesmistry is awesome!
They manage to succeed at getting V’s sword but it doesn’t end happily. There are still things that need to be done and with the Others being brought into the light only makes things super complicated.
We’re nearing the end of this series so things are only going to amp up from here!
Side note:
I LOVE that V is the basis for Dracula! You’ll see....
Ready for another one from this author she delivers big time with this one. Using Roman to send the warmth flowing to get us started along with Sabina you are whisked away with this one. Entering into this world you satisfy the need for magic and love along with the adventure that unfolds. Trust and seeing what love can do is demonstrated to the fullest in this. It will set a yearning at times for such a relationship as this that builds. From the moment you enter into this one until the last word you are given more than a treat to satisfy the need.
I luuurrrvvvere dragons!!! So, I really don't have anything bad to say here. Like I've stated on reviews before I've read a lot of Donna Grant's books in her different series, and the Dragon Kings are my favorite so far and they don't disappoint! This is Roman and Sabina's story and though I felt the chemistry was a little lacking, I still loved it. Why? Because its DRAGONS!!!! Lol. Love me so dragons!
The only problem I have is that I am all over the place with this series and I really need to buckle down and play catch up. Lol. Another great read. 4 solid stars!!!
This is the latest in the long line of series on dragon kings, but the series continues to be interesting. I tried reading from the beginning of the series, but couldn't catch up to the current storyline. Regardless, the story was not confusing despite not having read all the prior books although there are some parts of the story that can be a little slow if you don't understand all the prior books that's gone by. The story is not super steamy, but full of action and intrigue. The dragon kings are little vague as they are supposed to be larger than life, but female character is fairly interesting. I wouldn't say it was most engrossing book I've read in last few months, but definitely kept my attention.
Voluntary and honest review after receiving ARC (advanced reader copy).
I have been living this series but I found this book wasn't Donna's best. I really felt that this one was dragging on.
I still am a huge fan and I will continue reading this series and anything else Donna writes but this one just wasn't her best.
Sabina is from a long line of gypsy women with the "sight". Her grandmother passed on to her a very important story about her ancestors and men that can take the form of a dragon. She now lives with just her brother who is a very special man.
Dragon king Roman is determined to make sure that this his fellow Dragon king "V" will find the sword that was stolen from him many, many years ago. Without it he can literally lose his mind. Unfortunately there are magic forces working against them.
This is part of a series that is better read in order because of the complicated back story, but you could read it on it's own.
Our characters all have strong personalities that you will immediately fall in love with. The most unlikely one plays a very important role. There is a lot of magical danger from unknown sources and some great excitement.
I loved it.
Donna Grant keeps coming up with awesome characters. She weaves them in and out of each of her books in a way that you want to go back and reread the previous book or two so that you can truly appreciate the current book.
You get captured in the story and you see it on folding in your mind. Each character is a friend that you go back to visit time and time again.
She does this while weaving a story that spans many books.
She makes the readers want to figure out the twists and turns in the journey that her characters are taking.
You finally figure out that burning question, only to have the answer you are sure of smashed into a million pieces. Then in the next book you see that you may have acted too fast and what you thought may well be the answer.
Like a great movie there are characters that toy just Hate. You want them gone but you know one they are gone the story will end. So you want them to stay around for another book.
Dragonfire 9Dark Kings, #14) by Donna Grant is a completely soul-searing adventure as the Dragon Kings search for the sword that will help them prevail. The overall story continues to fall into place piece by piece with each consecutive book. I love all the intricacies this author writes. The story is engaging and as always, well written. I would have liked to see more romance (spark) between the two main characters, but it seems to fall in line with their personalities. Thank you to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for providing a copy to review. If you enjoy any of the Dark Kings book, add this to the list!
It would be difficult to follow Ulrik’s story in Torched after the series had buildup the Dragon “showdown” that his story would bring. However, Donna Grant did her best with Dragon Kings book 14, Dragonfire. I must admit that the problems that the Kings are still having is anticlimactic after Ulrik is now back in the fold so to speak. If perhaps this had been Rhi’s story, I would have loved it more. I am so ready for her story to find a conclusion, with the entire past becoming known.
Atlas, this romance is of Roman and Sabina. It does have a Dracula legend in it that fits the release date. It also has some interesting characters in it besides Roman and Sabina too. As with all the Dragon King stories the main couple’s story is complete. Still there are many unanswered questions concerning big themes, such as the Fae Queen’s true agenda and Rhi. With that in mind, I would not recommend starting the series here, but to read the books in order.
Gypsies, Dragon Kings, New and old villains and the legend of Dracula...
This is the fourteenth book in the Dark Kings series.
Before the dragon kings took to their sleep inside the mountains on Dreagan, V, Dragon King of the Coppers had his enchanted sword stolen and it is time it was found, this sword has relevance to all of the dragon kings. V has no memory of the time his weapon was stolen and it will be learned that magic is to blame. But whose magic is strong enough to alter the memories of a dragon king and also hide them from Kellan, the keeper of their history?
One dragon king can hear the calling of metals from deep within the earth as beautiful melodic music and it is this ability that makes Roman, Dragon King of the Pale Blues, the perfect person to assist V in his search. Their journey begins in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania, V’s former home before the war with the humans and will lead to Iceland, Roman’s former home where long-buried memories will assail him. A plan, an elaborate trap, that was set in motion ages past is about to unfold with possible dire consequences. This enemy that the dragon kings face has an inordinate amount of patience.
As a descendant of the Romani gypsies, Sabina Gabor, has the gift of Sight that she’s not used in a long time. She’s in possession of a memorized story passed down from her similarly gifted grandmother and it pertains to the dragon kings. She alone cares for her half-brother, Camlo, who is special, a man with a child’s mind and an unnatural way with animals. Brother and sister are keeping secrets from each other and those secrets will be shared with the arrival of two strangers that followed a heralding storm.
The romance in this story is between Sabina and Roman, it is a slow burn that is a bit overpowered by the constant danger of transpiring events; their attraction was definitely magnetic. Sabina is a spunky heroine who knows her limitations but faces them when she knows she has to. Roman is protective of not just Sabina but her brother and V, his personality truly embodies the fire and ice of his homeland.
V has spent most of his time sleeping for each time he’s woken and failed to find his sword bad things seem to happen to mankind, that’s another reason why this time he doesn’t go it alone. We are given insight into his personality. V, who is also known as Vlad, is the where the legend of Dracula is said to have begun for when he hides his dragon form a swarm of bats is seen, V did not find the vampire aspect of this amusing but this reader did.
As always in this series the characters were fascinating, Ulrik, Eilish, and Rhi were also involved in Iceland. The deviousness of Usaeil and Balladyn never cease, but their time is coming. There was an intricate suspenseful plot with perplexing mysteries, engaging dialogue, multiple points of view including those of villains unseen before now, and for the many answers that were given more questions arose. This series and the one that connects (Reapers) continue to thoroughly entertain this reader.
An advanced reading copy was obtained from the publisher via NetGalley.
An excellent and entertaining read that doesn't require reader's to be familiar with any of the previous novels in this series! I was not at all familiar with the series, but love dragon shifter novels so gave this one a try. The premise and characters were interesting and well-written and the couple was fun to follow along. It leaves you wanting to go find the previous novels and hoping that some of the dragons we met will have future stories.
I have only read one other of the books in this series and I love it! Every story opens up new questions but gives you another piece to the puzzle.
Roman and Sabina have an undeniable connection from the time they meet. Even thru all of the challenges they face in trying to get V’s sword back, they struggle to keep it together.
I can’t wait to read more from the other Dragon Kings!! 5 stars!
