Dragons have always fascinated me, whether it's the fact that could have existed at one time or just the thought that they might actually still exist. That being said when I read the synopsis for Dragonfire I knew I had to read it and I'm so glad I did. From the very beginning, I was hooked.
Sabina is a young woman who's mother took her away from her Gypsy family at a young age and she was raised without their influence though she never forgot her history. She has kept her heritage quiet so as to keep her younger brother and herself safe from those that are biased against them. She leads a simple life supporting her brother and herself designing jewelry. All that changes when she meets Roman, one of the few remaining Dragon Kings.
Roman is bent on helping his dragon brother V find his sword. Every dragon king's sword is like an extension of them and to not have their sword is painful. Their search for V's sword takes them to where Sabina lives and it's soon discovered that she has some connection to V. She and her brother join the dragon kings in their search.
What follows is a mystery that keeps you intrigued. I have not read any other books in the Dark Kings series, but I had not problem keeping up with the characters. If you like paranormal reads that have dragons, shifters, fae, good vs. evil, not to mention love, then you'll love Dragonfire.
Donna Grant has done it again with a solid Dragon romance. the storyline was unique and I so enjoyed learning about Rowan. Interesting plot which was written quite well.
Great read. I couldn't put it down. Love the characters and plot. Readers will be drawn into the story from the first page. I look forward to reading more of Donna's books.
Dragonfire by Donna Grant is book 14 in the Dark Kings series. This is the story of Sabina and Roman.
This can be a standalone book but does have the undertones of a larger story through the series.
Roman is working to locate the sword that has eluded them so far when he meets Sabina and her brother Camlo who may have the needed information to find the sword.
Sabina knows of the old tail of Dragons and swords from her family/grandmother and has lived with the information for a while. Sabina and her brother both have special skills that have helped them so far in life. When working to assist Roman feelings between the two start to form leading them to possible find something more together.
This has been a long series but each book brings another great story to add to the series.
Donna Grant continues to be a solid go-to author for me! Each book in the Dark Kings series has been entertaining and makes me eager for the next book. And my eagerness increases with each new book, as I'm desperate to read more of the other characters. This book delivered the next entry in a complicated story, in a way that helps new and returning readers understand the series history easily. Very well done, considering it gets more complex with each new book.
A legend among her people is more embedded in Sabina Gabor's future than she could have ever imagined. Separated from her Romani family as a young girl, Sabina was raised by her mother alongside her stepfather and brother in Romania. Now the sole caretaker of her sweet, childlike brother, Sabina lives in relative seclusion. Until, that is, the arrival of two strange men upend her world. Roman is accompanying his fellow Dragon King, V, in the search for his stolen sword. When they come across Sabina and her brother, they realize that they may be the key to finding the sword. If only Roman can convince Sabina to help them.
Sabina was a really interesting character, giving insight into the Romani culture and providing a strong female lead for an equally strong make lead. She was super independent and protective of her brother, which made me like her immediately. I also loved her compassion from an early age regarding the dragons, and it shine brightly as an adult. Roman was a very strong character as well, with a calming personality and gentle ways, which really helped when first meeting Sabina. He never took away her independence, which I loved, and he encouraged her to face her fears. It was a great relationship to experience throughout the book.
I eagerly await the next book in the series! It's sure to be just as exciting and enlightening as this one.
DRAGONFIRE is another impressive Dark King story by Donna Grant. Though this has a bit less romance than her other novels in this series, Sabina and Roman do fall for each other. Intermixed in the story are V's quest for his past and his sword.
Do you love dragons, intrigue, danger, magic, and twists and turns that have their own twists and turns? Then get your hands on DRAGONFIRE by Donna Grant.

Can you feel it? The end is near. I’m not ready and yet I am excited for it. The more I read these books the more I want Con to have a HEA. I want the name of Rhi’s King. I know there can’t be light without dark so I’m not sure how I want things to end, but it will.
In this installment, Roman sets out with V to find his sword. They stumble upon a Romani brother and sister who help them on their quest. But little do they know that the stories they grew up on would mean more than just mere retellings from generation to generation.
Magic was everywhere in this book. It seems that when the Dragon Kings think they finally get a step ahead something causes them to stumble backwards. Evil never dies. Now they must find the cause.
Again, I live for Rhi’s chapters. After being tossed out by Usaeil, she must decide her next step. Who will she stand with? Will she embrace the dark that is pulling at her or will she stand strong in the light and accept the help that’s being offered her? Ahh!! Make the right decision!!
I don’t really know how to review this one. I rated it four stars because if you’ve read the other books in the series, you’ll want to read this one as it’s a continuation. If you haven’t read any of the other books, stop and start at the beginning. You’ll be lost and very unhappy if you try to start from here. Also, you must read this series with undivided attention, or regardless of which book you read first, it’ll be fit confusionville pretty quickly.
This is a lot like the Twilight series, if you read those or saw the movies, in that there are different species with good and bad versions of a few types. There are wars being raged about territories (realms) and fears about humans finding out about them (dragons, in particular). Unlike Twilight, the romance is a very secondary plot to the species battles and discoveries. Since I’m a romance lover above all things, this isn’t my favorite type of story. That being said, there is just enough romance that I’m willing to wade through the confusion that so many characters (some with hidden agendas and unclear alliances) create to get to the good parts.
It’s not a quick or easy read, but if it’s a genre you like, it’s worth it.
I received an ARC of this book, from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for a fair and honest review.
These last couple books have been great and the story has taken a direction that I didn't see coming. I just loved the characters in this one and everything happening just drew me right in. Plus I was super excited to get more of V. And to learn his real name and what came of what happens when he cloaks himself was such a fun tidbit. While this was Roman's book, I think we learn just as much about V as we did about him.
Roman was another amazing Dragon King. He's determined to help V find his sword because he knows where V was the last time he had it. So off to Romania they go. Being limited in their search makes things hard for them, but V is not the only one desperate for him to get his sword back. His sword is even more special than all the others as it can be used to find and call to the dragons that they had sent away all that time ago. So yeah, super important to find this.
I loved the fact that Sabina was a normal girl doing her best to take care of her brother, Camlo. Yes, she is descended from important people and yes, she has the gift of 'sight'. But she was truly nothing special and that's what made her special to me. Her brother is basically a fully grown man, but stuck with a child's mind. Despite this, I also thought he was a great character. He was integral to the story and what needed to happen as they went on. The two of them live practically in the middle of nowhere and that's how Sabina likes it. It's a simple and uneventful life, but that changes in an instant when Roman and V show up.
It's clear these two siblings are important and it's not long until the four of them are off to finally retrieve V's sword. Not an easy task to be sure, as they are faced with many challenges and cheat death more than once thanks to this new enemy the Kings face. As the reader, it was pretty awesome all they see and have to go thru before they even find the sword. Sabina's connection to the past and the sword was neat as well. That, and just how much her brother knew all along but did not share with anyone. I was really quite happy with how it all went down at the end and can't wait for V's book.
Compared to the other books, we actually got very little of the other going ons in this world. A fascinating book has been brought to Usaeil's attention that I have a very bad feeling about. Rhi is still struggling with herself, but she always shows up when the Kings need her help. Then there is Con. Oh my gawd, I have never felt so bad for him before. The weight of everything happening to the Kings as well as every decision he has ever made is becoming such a terrible burden that he is starting to regret so many things. I don't think I've ever been so grateful that Ulrik was back at Dreagan before as Con desperately needs him by his side.
My one complaint about this book would be the random, frivolous use of magic by Roman. I can't recall a single time they used their magic in a such a way, so it seemed to be used just because the situation called for it. We are told that the Kings don't use their magic for such things because they do not want to become dependent on it or whatever, which I buy. But it just seemed so out of place and out of character for a Dragon King that it kept bugging me.
I normally do not read paranormal romance novels and I am not sure what pulled me to Donna Grant's books but I have been reading since the first Dark Sword novel in 2009. Donna's writing style has matured throughout the series and each book leaves the reader wanting more. The Dark World that she has created draws the reader in and wraps them in the magic.
The saga of the Dragon Kings continues in the latest edition to the series. While searching for a long lost item, the kings find information on their latest foes. There is so much in this book including a significant hint regarding Rhi and her DK lover for those familiar with the series. This is the 14th full novel in the DK series so I advise you start with earlier books to learn about the Dark World as they build on each other.
This was actually one of my favorite books in the series and I believe it was because of the setting being so remote. The journey the lovers take in this book, both physically and mentally was wonderful and I felt like I was there experiencing it with them. I gave 5 stars but would give more if possible!!
I love this series. Grant has created a fascinating and unique world and given us characters that just leap off the pages. As a series its entertaining, unpredictable and suspenseful. Its crazy good and this last book topped all the others.
Here we are at Book 14 and I am still loving it; spin-offs and all! I cannot get enough of Ms. Grant’s amazing writing; she does a such a phenomenal job of incorporating her characters and storyline into her defined and solid world. I totally enjoyed the fact that while this was a sizzling read, the action and adventure of the dragons mission was first and foremost for this story. Nicely done!
Please note that an ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review of which this is both honest and completely voluntary.
Rating 3.5/5
This is book #14 of the Dark Kings series. I was provided a copy by NetGalley and the publisher for my honest review.
I was a bit disappointed in the romance category for this book. As it being the 14th novel in a series, I expected less of the world building and more focus on the paranormal romance especially with dragons and their fire! I mean that just screams lust and passion to me. But unfortunately a lot of it was absent.
The plot and storyline was still pretty good. I really enjoyed the adventure and the search for the sword, but lots of gaps were still left unsolved for me. I wanted at least more of the puzzle to be more complete.
Still a very good read - just my personal issues weren't met.
I found the heroine and her brother extremely fascinating in Dragonfire. So much so that when the author would change POV's with other Dragon Kings or Rhi, I was impatient to get back to them. Since I enjoy getting everyone's POV, that just speaks to how much I liked these two.
My fascination stems from not only the gypsy background, but I also found both siblings abilities to be pretty cool, especially Camlo's. He uncovered a lot in this book that we didn't know yet. While we got a lot of answers, we also got more questions. However, I still feel like we are a step closer than we were.
Rhi is concerning me and I want her to find happiness. It seems like she just keeps getting kicked down. I love her character and I really want to see her happy in the end. I'm nervous for her.
I love that the Reapers are intermixing with this series and their own. You almost need to read both series as they all publish to stay up to date on everything that is going on. This isn't a hardship since I'm loving both series. ARC provided by NetGalley.
I absolutely adored this book ! Donna Grant has created a truly amazing story for Roman and Sabina. I enjoyed every minute of their thrilling journey.
This story was loaded with romance, thrills, action, secrets, and definitely some series changing surprises. The story begins with Roman and Vlad (V as readers have come to know him) taking up the search for V's stolen sword. Their search leads them to Romania where they connect with Sabina and her brother, who have a mysterious connection to the missing sword themselves. Together they begin an incredible adventure as they work together to find the sword and unravel a mystery surrounding whoever is out to take down the Dragon Kings.
I loved the characters in this book, and also the detailed plot that made this grand adventure seem so realistic. Roman recognized Sabina as his mate right away. He also realized that she had the strength and resilience to help them in their quest. I also enjoyed all of the discoveries they made along the way, and catching up with other favorite characters, as the plot took many unexpected turns.
This suspenseful book was full of surprises and thrills for everyone. I loved it and would recommend the series to all paranormal romance readers.

"Dragonfire" is a fast-paced adventure as Dragon King Roman works with human Sabina to track down a Dragon King's stolen sword. The search takes them from Scotland to Romania and into the volcanoes of Iceland as they battle powerful magic trying to hide the sword. Roman and Sabina's chemistry was instant and powerful, and I enjoyed watching them come together, fighting enemies to be together, and trusting each other to get through the challenges they faced. Every scene with them was enchanting, and I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. I have to admit that scenes focusing on some of the other Dragon Kings and the problems they were having didn't interest me as much- but I think that was because this was the first book I've read in the series, so I don't yet have any emotional attachment to the rest of the series' cast of characters. Some of the attempts to plot out what the Dragon Kings' hidden enemies were trying to do got me pretty tangled up (which inevitably happens to me once you throw some quick time travel and future-seeing into the mix) but I expect anyone who has read the series from the beginning will be all over those scenes.
Overall this probably wasn't the right book to start with- I expect reading the series in order helps, I definitely enjoyed "Dragonfire" couple Roman and Sabina and Donna Grant's wonderful writing enough that I would start the series from the beginning to get ready for the next book to come out!
The next book gives us more and more about the new threat that is worse than the Fae, Mikkle, or Ulrik. They know that both Light and Dark Fae teamed up with both Mie and Drough Druids to take them down, but what they don’t know is why or how far they will go. In this one, we start to see the great lengths and for how long this new threat has gone to to bring the Dragon King’s down. Along the way, Donna Grant, I swear, is dropping more and more hints about who might be Rhi’s Dragon King, but I don’t know if I can believe what I think or is she is just trying to throw the reader off. Time will tell! Roman and Sabina’s story was just as entertaining and exciting as all the other DK books. I liked watching the interactions between Con and Ulrik, and Ulrik and Eilish both play roles in Roman and Sabina’s adventure. It was fun, passionate, intriguing, and the plot just keeps getting more complex and more dynamic. The scope that the Dark Universe has taken is just amazing to think that it all came from one woman’s imagination. So cool. And so good.
Dragonfire is already the 14th part of the Dark King series. And although I kind of fell smack in the middle of the series, it really kind of grows on you. In this part we follow Ronan and Vlad (or V. for friends) who are trying to find V's sword. Vlad's memory has been tampered with (just as Esther's in Heat) and he can't remember who took the sword.
By chance however, they meet Sabina and her brother Camlo. They are Romani, who stopped travelling, because their grandmother had a vision. Sabina was told the story when she was very young. And it was one of dragon kings and fairies. Never had Sabina suspected that this story was based on actual event. So maybe, the story about the taken sword wasn't also not fictional....
Together with Ronan and V., Sabina and her brother travel to Iceland to unravel the secrets. But someone doesn't want them to find the truth. Many attempts are made to prevent them from succeeding. And when Sabina's life is threatened once again, Ronan must ask himself whether his attraction to Sabina is helping here or whether he should let her go.
Tension, love, drama and an unravelling story: Donna Grant has done it again. Thank you Netgalley for providing the arc. Four out of five stars from me.
4.5 Stars The fourteenth book in the Dragon Kings series, Dragonfire brings us Roman and Sabina. I enjoyed this story and like getting more of an insight into V. These characters are well developed and the interaction between all of them is engaging and the well written story make it a wonderful read.
Roman is the Dragon King of the Light Blues. He offers to help V, a fellow Dragon King, hunt for his missing sword. Roman and V begin their search in Romania’s Carpathian Mountains. While there, the duo encounters a Romani brother and sister, who prove instrumental in regaining V’s sword. Clues direct the group to Iceland, Roman’s homeland and domain. Danger awaits the four. Can Roman overcome the Others’ malicious machinations? Will he be able to protect Sabina against their magic?
Sabina is descended from a long line of powerful Romani women gifted with the Sight. She supports herself and her younger brother by making and selling customized jewelry. Sabina remembers the story her grandmother told her about the Dragon Kings. When she and her brother run into two, Sabina agrees to help them search for V’s sword. She finds a kindred spirit in Roman, and their attraction ignites. Will Sabina’s Sight be instrumental in finding V’s sword? Or will she too fall victim to the Others’ traps?
I like that Roman insists on helping V find his sword, so he is no longer driven insane by its absence. He cares enough about his friend to keep V from doing something he may later regret while in madness’s grip. I adore how conscious Roman is of Sabina’s fears. He is always mindful of her limitations, so Roman continuously gives Sabina the option to back out anytime she wants. But, what I like most about Roman is how Sabina’s presence helps him finally confront his past. She gives him the resolve to finally lay it to rest for good.
I adore the fact that Sabina is Romani. There are not too many gypsy characters outside of Historical Romance. I admire Sabina’s determination to fix the wrongs her ancestors wrought. She may not understand their reasons, yet Sabina trusts her instincts and intuition to correct their wrong. I like how Sabina faces her fears throughout the journey. She refuses to let fear keep her from doing what needs done, regardless of the obstacles and dangers in her path. What I love most about Sabina is her fierce protectiveness toward her younger brother. She knows other people are not as accepting to her brother’s handicaps, so she refuses to let people take advantage of him.
DRAGONFIRE is book fourteen in Donna Grant’s paranormal series, DRAGON KINGS. It is necessary to read the previous books in the series, especially HEAT, book twelve, to better understand the ongoing plot. I like how the Dragon Kings are learning about their newest foe. I suspect the author plans to divulge little tidbits about the Others in future books, so not to bombard readers with information, which I appreciate. I enjoy learning new info about the enemies alongside the characters in the story.
DRAGONFIRE is a spellbinding tale of two souls’ redemption from their past. I love how the author wove new information about the Druids in this book. I also cannot wait to learn more about the mysterious Others, especially their hatred towards Constantine. I hope V’s book is next.
