This book grabbed me from the beginning, I absolutely love the Dragon Kings (well, all of Donna Grant's books actually!), and devour them as soon as they come out. Roman and Sabina were wonderful together. I can't wait for the next book!

3.5 stars for the relationship as it took a backseat in this 14th Dark Kings novel. 4 stars for the quest and the details surrounding what’s coming.

Dragonfire takes place outside of Scotland as we follow Roman and V on the quest to find V’s sword. A sword that will bring all the dragons home. As they travel through the Carpathian Mountains they come upon a man who can speak to animals and his older sister. Sabina has been protecting and caring for her brother, Camlo, since the death of her parents. Aside from his gift with animals, he has a mental disability and can’t fully care for himself. Sabina descends from a Romani family and has the gift of sight. V and Roman soon realize the siblings may be able to help V regain his memories of when his sword was taken from him.

Sabina and Camlo are immediately swept up in the search for the sword and join the Dragon Kings to Roman’s homeland, Iceland. As they journey into a cave, they realize that magic is at work. There are drawings that show events in the past and predictions of the future.

What I liked about the book is that we get more information about who may be against the Dragon Kings and some foreshadowing regarding Rhi. But more information isn’t necessarily answers. Just more pieces of the puzzle that we have to wait to figure out. I also liked that we got more of V (guessing his novel is next) and Ulrik was a prominent secondary character.

I wish that Roman and Sabina had more of a spark. As Roman is the Dragon who rules over the land of Fire and Ice, I found it ironic that there wasn’t more passion between them.

As a young girl, Sabina’s grandmother told her an ancient story of dragons who could change to human form. There were also dragon kings. An ancestor foresaw the local dragon king slaughtering their village, and the family made a plan to steal his weapon, a sword. Fearing his wrath, the Romani family fled the village and have wandered the mountains ever since. Her grandmother told her the dragon king will come back, but he must never find them or the sword. But Sabina questions everything, including this story. Her grandmother then told her the Dragon King’s name was Vlad.

Roman, king of the light blue dragons, convinces V, king of the copper dragons, that he will help him find his sword. Con, the King of Dragon Kings, has purposely kept V asleep in the mountain of Dreagan in Scotland for centuries. Con woke V because in the upcoming battle against evil forces facing them, all dragons will be needed. Yet V’s memory since the attack where his sword was stolen has been missing and searching for his sword and his memories has driven V to the edge of madness. The sword's recovery is vital to all Dragonkind. Since by Con’s order all dragons’ presence must be kept secret from humans, they are not allowed to fly when humans might see them. Roman conjures a huge storm, and he and V fly hidden by the massive storm to Romania, V’s home. They remained hidden from all but one person. Cambo, Sabia’s younger brother, sees them flying. Cambo is a large man with a child’s mind and a special talent for communication with animals.

Sabina Gabor has what her grandmother called ‘sight.’ She left her roaming gypsy family to find a safe place for Cambo to live with his animals. Others in the village near where they live make fun of him, but do not know the unique gift he possesses. Sabrina senses things others don’t, but despite her misgivings, Roman attracts her like no other man, and even learning he is a dragon doesn’t change that. She helps Roman and V learn another previously unrecognized enemy is in play with a magic powerful enough to control even a dragon king.

Like the other books in this series, tension from previous evil forces still flow through the narrative, and this story includes equally dangerous locations. Secret abound and some will be exposed, but more occur. New readers might be a little confused, but will soon understand the background and its nuances. Those familiar with the series will be glad for Roman to find a mate at last, if he lives through it.

I was given a chance to read this, and it was so confusing its book 14. and I have only read book 1 and that alone was confusing as all her series are interconnected and I don't have time to read everything in the authors back list, I was really into the dragons, if anything I think I would go back and read from where I started with this series.

Another great installment to an already fantastic series! I love books like these where the further we look into these stories, the more we unravel and the more we are sucked into the lives of these characters. Books like these will have you looking for magic in your every day life!

I love everything about dragons. I am sure that somewhere in the past I have read a book by Donna Grant about dragons but I just can't remember. I read this book as a standalone and struggled a bit with the parts where we read about Rhi, I have previously read one Reaper novel and that helped a bit. I really enjoyed reading this book and meeting all the characters. I wish it was possible to touch a dragon myself. I am going to read this series from the start to get a better understanding of what is going on in this world. I still give this book 4 stars because of the Dragons and their amazingness and the great story.

Thank you to St. Martins Paperbacks and NetGalley for the ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

There have been glimpses of the Dragon King V going back to Soul Scorched where he is first mentioned. V has been traveling to different places (Sweden, Belgium) in search of his sword. Now in Dragonfire we learn more about V and what happened to his missing sword. The focus of this novel is on locating that sword as well as the romantic ties between Roman (who is helping V in his quest) and Sabina. Developments in Dragonfire continue the mystery of the Druid and Fae magic that was first introduced in Firestorm with the discovery of the wooden dragon.

While some previous plotlines are barely touched upon (e.g., Balladyn, Usaeil), the focus of Dragonfire is on this newest threat to the Dragon Kings from a magic that seems stronger than Dragon magic, that of the Others who exist “somewhere in the universe. ..” We learn a little more about these Others who have been plotting against the Dragon Kings. It becomes obvious that theirs has been a plan of action put into place thousands of years ago.

Finally, there are a few additional elements that are now in play, specifically, the disappearance of Con’s “weapon,” the tie-in with Eoghan, Thea, and the Reapers, the growing darkness within Rhi, the ancient tome discovered by one of Usaeil’s Elders, and most importantly, problems with V’s sword.

The momentum is building with all these new challenges facing the Dragon Kings and their allies. I’m eagerly (and very impatiently) awaiting all upcoming books in this series (as well as the interrelated Reapers series) to learn the final outcome.

Three and a half
I remember when this series started how exciting and different it was but after a few books if honest I really started to want more answers. I know I wasn't alone in this but luckily the author brought out a series about Reapers that coincides with the action and storyline here so my interest was re-awakened once more.
So here we are at book fourteen and the enemy from the beginning of the series Ulrik has now returned to the Dragon Kings but still they have problems. One problem is V the legendary Dragon who unknowingly started the stories about Dracula and he's struggling against madness as centuries ago his precious sword was stolen from him. Now Roman has agreed to accompany V to his homeland hoping memories will return and with them the knowledge of just who stole the magical sword. Perhaps a Romany woman and her brother will give them answers but in doing so will it trigger a prophecy ?
As much as I liked discovering how the author intends to continue this series if honest I felt a little flat reading this. We know that there are both good and bad Fae and the Kings really still haven't quite overcome the problem of the Light Fae Queen but unfortunately I was frankly bemused by how this story played out. So much has happened and there are still questions I as a reader need answering so to go off on a completely different tangent made me feel let down.
This is a romance so obviously Roman and Sabina are tested but it's perhaps not as steamy as some previous relationships. I'm still wanting more from Rhi and yes I've got my own ideas about who broke her heart but if you are considering reading this for the romance then it does work as a standalone but as someone who has invested in the series it's not my favourite. Oh well perhaps the next Reapers book will further expand this world bringing me closer to the answers I'm dying to know.
This voluntary take is of an advance copy I requested and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

I got so lucky to get an Arc. I was wondering if the author would be able to keep up the fire we all felt in Uricks book. And wow and wow. Roman sure doesn’t disappoint. Now I have more answers and more questions. As this series gets closer to the end. It’s going to be a wild ride and the author must really be on the top of her game. Once again an amazing read. This is the latest offering from the Dragon Kings series and I have to say I am slightly disappointed .
Why ? Well I was expecting more …… especially after Ulrich's story - I even misunderstood initially which King this book was about - I thought it was V's story and it took several pages before the penny dropped .

V's sword has been missing for centuries , he has been unable to find it on the occasions of his awakening...……..how is it being hidden ? where is it ? who stole it and why ?

Using Roman's skills of finding metals within the earth they decide to start their search in V's old cave , in Romania . Finding nothing they expand their search area and come across Sabina , a Romani with the sight . and her half brother Camlo . who has an affinity with animals.
Sabina's attraction to Roman and the memory of her grandmother's story of Dragons , along with her abilities will prove important in finding the sword …………….. bringing to the fore the "Others" .
Who are they , what is their agenda and how long have they been manipulating events to their benefit .??

This book had its moments of drama , suspense , romance but was drawn out in places .
I felt that the introduction of other characters , Rhi , Constantine , the light Fae Queen etc was not necessary to this storyline - except in the cave sequence -and if they were I missed the point !

This is a brilliant series and I look forward to the next book .
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

"Dragonfire" begins with Sabina, a Romani woman who left her traveling family with her mother when she was little- but not before her grandmother passed down an important story about Dragon Kings, men who can shift into and rule over dragons, and what her ancestors had done. Fearing for the foretold future, they stole a sword from a Dragon King, Vlad and hid it away, none of them knowing where it was currently hidden. Sabina has carried the story and the gift of her family- Sight, the ability to see into the future. She now lives with her brother, Camlo, who is described as having the mind of a child.

Camlo also has another gift- he can communicate with animals. This is why he and Sabina also have numerous animals living on their land which they take care of. Everything is about to change when Camlo notices notices something in the night sky- two Dragon Kings who are searching for the sword their ancestors stole.

Roman is accompanying Vlad (mostly known as simply "V") on his quest to find his sword. However, his mind has been altered by magic (combination of Druid and Fae most likely), and this leads to disastrous consequences any time he seeks the sword. When they find Camlo and Sabina, Camlo's knowledge of the sword and events is far more than anyone could have expected, and thus, they need to bring him- and thus his sister- on their quest. Traveling to Iceland in search of the sword, their journey is far more perilous than they could have imagined- and Sabina is to play a more vital role than expected.

With interspersed chapters from Rhi and others (including Con and Ulrick), this story follows the journey to find the sword and uncover the magics at play with consequences for Dragon Kings and humanity. While Roman and Sabina spend some time getting to know each other, it often felt a little forced to me, and I would have liked more focus on the two of them and their romance, to really build it up. The quest was the real story here, but I was hoping for more steamy romance (there are a couple good scenes, but between the quest and others' points-of-view, it doesn't really focus on the leading couple). With the chapters that focused on others, which I know are necessary for the overall story between books, the romance felt a little broken (we'd start to build it up and then go elsewhere, which detracted from the in-depth feelings on my side, and I would have to work mentally to get back into it).

In terms of the story, everything was so well explained that this can be read as a stand-alone. Although the ending is a little open, the major storylines in this book were wrapped up so no big cliffhangers. I really liked Sabina and Camlo's characters also with their unique gifts- they brought a lot to the table and made for a unique story when combined with the Dragon Kings. Overall, I enjoyed the fantasy and adventure elements but would have liked even more romance! I am very interested in seeing where the overall story goes next.

Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher through netgalley. All opinions are my own.

Wow Donna what a read !!. Book 14 in the DK series and its still as an addictive read as book 1 !!!
This was Roman and Sabina's book. A Dragon and a Gypsy.......fireworks !!! I loved the fact Roman was also dedicated to helping V with finding the sword in an attempt to save his friends sanity. The connection between Sabina's people and V's state of mind.....awkward !!!! But does this stand in the way of true love.........not on your life !!!.
From start to finish once again I submerged myself in the world that Donna has created !!! Brilliant writing, plot and characters. Another must read !!!!

Donna - 5 rather Regal and Kingly stars from me x
Many thanks for the opportunity xx

Later peeps xx

This was my first meeting with the Dragon Kings. Roman has to go on a quest to find V’s (the basis of Dracula) sword stolen and hidden by humans centuries ago. They come across Sabina a Romani with the sight and her half brother Camlo who has an affinity with animals. Sabrina will become everything to Roman but he will not abandon his friend V. They must all work together to overcome the magic of the Others. This is an magical enthralling story which is part of a bigger series. You were given glimpses into past relationships and the more darker parts of the stories with light and dark Fae and the Druids. I throughly enjoyed this story and it would be well worth visiting the next Dark Kings stories.
I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Fantastic as usual - I absolutely love this series and it's only ramping up more as it goes on. The story here is a great addition and OMG the new introduction of characters at the end.... You're killing me here Ms. Grant.

Roman is desperate to get V and his memories back together! Each time V wakes up he slips a little further into madness. Roman is worried that the time will come where he cannot drag his friend back from the verge of insanity.

On the quest for V's sword, which is also tied to his sanity, they land in Romania and are drawn towards Sabina and her brother. Sabina is Romani but her mother left her nomadic tribe and settled with her new husband on a farm and Sabina and brother had a settled life. Now left to care for her brother on her own, Sabina makes her living selling jewellery online. Camlo, well he is a real Dr Doolittle , he can talk to any animal, which has made him a target for bullies, along with his size.

When V and Roman appear nearby, she feels weirdly safe with them and Camlo takes to them like old friends. She soon realises that they are part of a story told to her by her grandmother before she left the tribe. But how does she tell Roman, who she has intense feelings for, that her family is responsible for V's madness?!?!

Roman is staunch, sexy and a solid friend. Sabina is intelligent, endearing and sassy. Camlo is just all things sweet and such a beautiful, naïve, innocent character in the middle of all the chaos.

There are enough back history points, that even if you have missed a book or two in the series (how very dare you!) you can still follow along with the story arc. Great staff and can't wait for more!

Sabina is Romani with the sight. Her special brother Camlo talks to animals. Those two thing alone make this story interesting. Adding in all the twist and shocks it is hard to put down. The world building is fantastic and I must read the others in the series.

Dragon Kings Roman and Vlad are in Romania searching for V’s sword that was stolen from him eons ago, losing the Dragon King’s ability to call their dragon’s back from another world. Planning to go over every inch of the Carpathian Mountains if necessary, they unexpectedly stumble upon Sabina and Camlo, gypsy half siblings, and discover more than they’d ever hoped to.

Ulrik’s story (Torched) was such an anticipated and more-than delivered-tale of redemption for me, so I was expecting more for Dragonfire. I think it fell flat. At least the romance did. No sizzling chemistry or tugs on the heartstrings between Roman and Sabina was something I found frustrating. They just...I don’t know...meandered? their way though the story leaving me feeling meh when I finished.

Overall, the story was okay. There was a lot happening at different levels and the details seemed to bog down the plot. This wasn’t one of my favorite books in the series and felt like a filler the way it plodded along.

Dragonfire is Book 14 in the Dragon King series and while it isn’t necessary to read the entire 30+ book series in order, the multitude of characters and politics can be overwhelming at times. I find reading the shorter series within the world easier to pick up the finer details and follow along with minimal difficulty.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Dragonfire is a heatedly passionate and wickedly mysterious work of pure bliss and utter beauty! I can’t express just how much I love delving a little deeper into the world of the Dragon Kings. There is no end to the breathless mystery, sizzling passion, and cunning danger that lies in wait for all who dare to enter. Falling into this exquisite world of stunning adventure and endless danger is an absolute dream come true for fantasy lovers!

Roman will do whatever is takes to help his friend V reclaim what was stolen from him. He has watched his friend suffer for long enough, and he is ready to finally take the necessary steps to bring it to an end. Not knowing what is in store for them heightens Roman’s anxiety along with an impending feeling of danger along with so much more than he ever dreamed possible. Sabina has settled into a comfortable life with her younger brother Camlo. She does not fear what life will bring their way, so why does her heart skip a beat whenever she thinks of the future? When Roman and V cross her path, she is entranced and left reeling by their quiet yet intense encounter. Will the heritage that she has carefully tucked away be the only thing that saves her when unknown forces conspire to destroy everything that she has come to love? Will this latest fight of the Dragon Kings pull another helpless human under the devastating waves of this debilitating storm, or will the impossible happen and prove to us without a doubt that love truly does conquer all?

Roman and Sabina are sure to steal your heart as they the very breath from your lungs. You will revel in the quiet defender and sassy gypsy as they leave you smiling and gasping as each step in their journey brings your mind and heart to life. What grows between them and knits their hearts together will touch the deepest part of your very soul. Love will awaken the dead and send their senses reeling for more. It will shake the foundation of your world to its very core and show you that it doesn’t destroy but instead transforms. This latest couple will prove that love is the greatest thing that we can ever share and it is the very thing that keeps us alive.

Nothing is quite as refreshing and reinvigorating as experiencing another brilliant story in the Dragon Kinds series. Watching how the dissecting lines within Grant’s other series cross and merge with this one so effortlessly never fail to leave me in breathless awe as to her creative power and beautiful complexity. Even though I haven’t been able to read all of the books in this series, I have had no problem reentering at any time within incredible series. I love that you can gather any important previous information with little effort since the author highlights it as past memory. It makes the story that much richer and satisfying. If you are looking for a fast-faced, naturally transforming, and highly intelligent storyline then look no further than this magnificent series! Grant will delight your senses and challenge you every step of the way. You will find yourself an active participant in a deliciously addictive and highly creative adventure.

Donna Grant is a writer who will constantly surprise you and just when you think she's at the top of her game, she will go on to become impossibly better.  This book is a game changer for the Dark Kings we learn a lot more of their history and we have a whole new set of "bad guys".
