A well done and twisty start to what looks to be a new series. DIAmy Winter is a dynamic protagonist who must cope with revelations no one would expect. A good read,

This had so much potential but unfortunately was a little slow paced and didn't quite grab my attention.

I love a good crime novel. Amy wants to follow in the footsteps of her decorated police officer father. However, she is the child of a murderer and her mother is manipulative. She wants to use her daughter for nefarious acts and this has Amy questioning if she is really the hero that she wants to be or just as evil as her mother.

Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was a bit slower than I would like and it just didn't hold my attention. I am sure other people will love it!

Imagine finding out your parents aren’t who you think they are, in fact the are a notorious pair of murderers. Then to find yourself beholden to one in order to help their victims families lay their loved ones to rest?
It’s certainly not a position I would like to find myself in but when Amy Winter’s does it makes for a great storyline!
There’s more to it though and there’s no way you’ll be able to figure out the reasoning behind some of the plot until the last twists and final turns if the pages!! Enjoy!!

This was a pretty explosive start to a new series. This novel was fun, twisted and had serious moments of tension. It avoids the sedate, gloomy cardboard cliché storytelling that I find in too many UK-based police procedurals, and instead is one of the better “cat and mouse” thrillers I’ve read.

Serial killer Lillian Grimes was a fucking firecracker of a character. Totally loved her. I will definitely be back for the next installment in this freaky little series.

Caroline Mitchell is one of my favourite authors and has produced a winner again this time round. I can't put the books down. I love the Amy Winter character and how the stories unfold. This gets a 5* from me.

What a great beginning to a series! I enjoyed it so much that I already have the second and third titles in this series loaded on my Kindle.

A while back I swore off reading any books that featured serial killers, yet once again I was tempted, and I’m so glad – as I’ve discovered a new favourite author and yet another series to follow.

While reading, I recognized the writing style as being skillful with short chapters that ramped up the pace. The characters were well developed and I particularly enjoyed the scenes featuring Amy Winter’s second in command Paddy Byrne.

It was a refreshing change to read from the viewpoint of a family member of a notorious criminal. When someone commits a crime(s) they don’t only ruin their own lives, it often has a life-changing effect on all the other members of their family as well.

Caroline Mitchell’s previous experience as a policewoman served her well in that the scenes at the police station were vivid and easily imaginable.

Thriller lovers will appreciate the surprising plot twists incorporated into the story.

I highly recommend this series to those readers who are fans of Angela Marsons, Elena Forbes, and/or Carol O’Connell. A fast paced, character-rich crime thriller.

A really good read. I enjoyed this book and found the idea of nurture vs nature an interesting and somewhat confronting issue to the main character. I felt the author had created characters that were believable and some that little bit of evil, that kept my interest in their story. This book had several plot twists and the author did a really good job of handing this out throughout the book.

I’m so sorry but I didn’t get to finish this book. I will but it’s going to be late. I’m hoping I can come back and adjust my review when I do. There was things beyond my control that kept me from this book. I do believe it sounds wonderful and I truly want to read it all the way through.

I have to give it 5 stars because I know it’s going to be wonderful and it’s my fault not the author in any way.

Thank you #NetGalley for this book.

I don't understand the hype around this book. I found it very tedious and the writing language isn't great.

Thank You NetGalley for the ARC.

I really enjoyed the Truth and Lies and I'm excited to know that this is going to be a series.

This was a totally original concept. A highly respected police officer (Amy Winters) receives a letter from a team of serial killers to find out that the wife (husband and wife serial killer team) is her mother.

I love the fact that it was a female antagonist (Lillian Grimes) in this book, She plays a seriously twisted game with Amy and creates a lot of internal conflict for Amy since Lillian will only talk to Amy. It sounds so far fetch but it totally works! I couldn't put the book down!

I wasn't surprised to discover that Caroline Mitchell has law enforcement experience. There is a voice of authenticity to her writing that can only come from personal experience!

I am reviewing a copy of Truth and Lies through Amazon Publishing Uk, and Netgalley:

Di Amy Winter Hopes to follow in the footsteps of her police officer Father, her Father was a highly respected Officer, and she wants to be the same. But after she gets a letter from Lillian Grimes, one half of a notorious Husband and Wife Serial Killer team, something is revealed to her that will change her life.

Lillian is pure evil. She was responsible for some heinous murderers decades ago. Lilian is a psychopathic murderer, as well as Amy’s biological Mother. She is now willing to reveal the location of three h
of her victims but she will only do it if Amy plays along with Lillian’s twisted game.

Amy’s fellow detectives are frantically searching for a young girl taken from her mother’s doorstep. Amy finds herself having to confront the secrets of her dark past. She is haunted by fragmented memories of a sister who sacrificed her own life in order to save Amy’s. Amy must race against time to uncover the missing bodies.

What if Grimes have been pulling the strings from behind bars, and has been pulling them even tighter than Amy imagined.

If you are looking for a good on the edge of your seat Suspense then I recommend Truth and Lies!

Five out of five stars!

Actual rating: 3.75 out of 5 stars

I enjoyed reading Caroline Mitchell's Ruby Preston series so I was excited to start reading a new series from her. I really liked the plot and it gripped me from the beginning but the twist at the end seemed far-fetched and kind of ruined it for me. However, I will continue on with this series since the book was well-written and I did enjoy most of it.

Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of Caroline Mitchell's "Truth and Lies" in exchange of an honest review.
