J.T. Ellison mixes drama, thriller and real life together so well. This one was more on the drama side of things, when Olympic hopeful has a terrible accident and some crazy truths are uncovered. The pages flew by and I adored every minute of the story!
I have really enjoyed other books buy J.T Ellison and this one was no exception. The characters are so well done—you immediately want to know everything about the ski prodigy daughter and see what is going to happen next. The plot was full of unexpected twists and turns, which always keeps my attention. This is a perfect page turner. Definitely a great way to spend the weekend! I will be recommending this one to my friends!
Great story, thrilling plot that I could not put down. Well worth a read, and would recommend to others.
I did not enjoy this book and stopped reading about quarter way in. Nothing was working for found some of the things in the book a bit unbelievable which was off putting.
Unfortunately I cannot give a fair review as I was unable to finish the book. I just didn't connect with it and struggled to get into it.
Although I did feel like this book was a tad in the long side I was intrigued the whole way. I loved the letters between the girls to get a little back story
I have read many of J.T. Ellison's books, and have really liked most. Tear Me Apart was not my favorite. Two families, so many layers of lies.
I felt like I had read this before.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to review this book and to be an early reader via NetGalley! This book starts like a family drama. Mindy Wright, the darling of the US ski circuit crashes at a race and breaks her leg. During tests, it is found that she has leukemia. The family rallies around to protect her and be there for her. Of course if you have read anything by J.T. Ellison, you know the twists are coming. When her parents and her aunt are not matches for a stem cell transplant, it is a race to find her biological parents.
I really enjoyed this story. I loved how the clues were dropped and how the plot played out. It all made perfect sense as the story unfolded, yet the twists were there. There were a few things that I thought I had figured out along the way that I had wrong, but it fit perfectly. The characters had so many secrets that I was not sure who was telling the truth or what the truth was. This was a twisted story of a loving family that was not what it seemed. I was on the edge of my seat and once I started this one, I did nothing else until I had finished it. A story with mental health issues, suicide, abduction, murder, lies and dysfunctional families that will take you on a ride that you don't want to get off of until you reach the end. Take a moment to read the Author's Note as well, it talks about Project Semi-Colon that I was not aware of at all.
What a heartbreaking, suspenseful story. A mother's need to be the end-all, be-all for her child. Many secrets taint all the lives of those she's touched. From the very beginning, no matter how she tried to spin it, mental illness was a huge part of Lauren's (Liesl) life.
The biggest part of the story was Juliet who, although she loved Lauren, saw through all the lies and started forcing Lauren to face up to the things she'd done. Each lie she told spun out of control until Lauren had to get her sister out of the way. The strength of the character, Juliet, who had to take multiple stands to her sister and force her to, eventually, tell the whole story.
Ms, Ellison kept up the suspense in this story right down to the bitter end....even allowing Jasper to think he was at fault for Kyle....He lives his life with this on his conscience. There was never a doubt in my mind that Zack was totally blameless.
Good job, Kat!!!
This book was gifted to me by NetGalley in return for an honest review.
Great book full of secrets, betrayal, lies and deception. What would you do to keep a secret safe? I enjoyed the novel and always wondering what would happen next. I felt I wanted to know more, and was immersed into the book and storyline as it unfolded, and was entertained the whole way to the end.
MIRA and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of Tear Me Apart. I was under no obligation to review this book and my opinion is freely given.
Competitive skier Mindy Wright is at the top of her game, despite being only a teenager. When a spectacular crash on the slopes leads doctors to discover a truth hidden deep within her blood, will a web of lies stand in the way of Mindy regaining her health?
Tear Me Apart is a mystery suspense thriller with nonstop action, but too much of the plot seemed engineered to bring readers to the final conclusion. I found the story to be too transparent and too orchestrated. The constant back and forth between the present and the past fractured the novel and did not allow the story to flow naturally. I liked certain aspects of the book, namely Mindy, but this was not enough to resurrect the novel for me. Tear Me Apart was a missed opportunity by the author and I would be hesitant to recommend it to other readers.
Suspenseful and thrilling are just two of the words I would use to describe Tear Me Apart. Last year I received an e-arc from Harlequin - Mira and unfortunately it remained on my Netgalley list unread. I saw it as audiobook deal recently and decided it was time to finally dig in - and boy am I glad I did.

The audiobook was narrated by multiple people - for the multiple points of view within the story. And while I primarily listened to the audiobook, I read the last 50 pages as I had to find out what really happened! This story is twisted but in all the ways that make a good tale. And if you enjoy a good audiobook, then I recommend picking this one up as the narrators make a pretty interesting mystery even better!

I am sorry I was so late to the party on this one but am pretty glad I finally made it. And now I cannot wait for JT Ellison's new Good Girls Lie.
Wow! What a page turner! This was a great book that kept me guessing and on my toes the whole time. I also enjoyed learning more about the skiing world.
Some good things: the sentences are short and the vocabulary is easy. One can read this long book very quickly, just skimming over the sentences. I know it's a style, but not having all the parts of a sentence much of the time really annoys me. "Just a day. Just so she could have a chance to catch her breath. She hasn't been properly alone since she took off down the mountain three weeks ago has been under constant, vigilant supervision by her parents, her aunt, the nurses and doctors, and she is slowly going mad for lack of privacy and silence."
The not so good: The characters have little or nunuances. To quote an old nursery rhyme, "When she was good, she was very very good and when she was bad she was awful." I could predict where the story goes. And then it goes on and on, past the climactic scene. To quote Lauren, the 'perfect' helicopter mom in the story, '"The story is very long and strange.'"
Zack, the wonderful bio-dad knows that no one is perfect like Lauren. "It is almost as if Lauren is directing a play, moving the pieces around. I am a good mother: stage right, my accomplished daughter. I am a devoted wife: stage left, my handsome lawyer husband. Backdrop: our glitteringly perfect home, not a speck of dust in sight. I am creative, concerned, loving and disciplined. I have money, I have purpose. Nothing fazes me, except the thought of losing my daughter."
To all the readers out there who rated Tear Me Apart much higher, I'm glad you're reading. Keep looking for mysteries/ thrillers that have more interesting characters and complete sentences. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
There are so many books about a person's mysterious family history that eventually it becomes so rote. I enjoyed this one to some extent, but it was a little too predictable at times.
I loved this book! The subject matter of DNA testing and uncovering family secrets is extremely interesting to me. This book is fast paced, well written and totally on track with the current interest of DNA. I don't want to give away anything, so please just read this book! It kept my attention from beginning to the very end!
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to preview this ARC of Tear Me Apart by J.T. Ellison.
Young Mindy seems to have it all. She's a well known Olympian hopeful in skiing, has two doting parents, and a bright future. But everything comes crashing to a halt when she injures herself in a ski accident and is rushed to the hospital. Surprisingly, it's not her injury that devastates her, but the fact that she has an aggressive cancer that requires a transplant from a family member. It seems simple enough, when thread after thread it pulled, we learn that things have not been what they have seemed for a long time.
This one was a pretty solid 3 stars for me. The story was interesting enough, the ending surprised me, but what I couldn't get past was how completely unbelievable it all was. I just really felt like the author was reaching. I also found the dialogue and character development to be very black and white and overly saccharine.
Absolutely loved this book! I immediately became engrossed in the characters, the medical drama, and the story told through the viewpoints of all involved. Love the twists and turns and the shocking ending! Love #hellion and thanks #NetGalley!!
What a ride - this book had as many twists and turns as a ski course! Mindy is faced with a disastrous diagnosis that threatens her life in more ways than one. She needs a transplant and soon discovers that her parents are not her biological parents. From there we join her in the question to uncover the truth. I can't really say more but I found this book totally engrossing. I never wanted to stop. It was a long book, but I really powered through. It may have been edited down a bit, but I really didn't care. I loved all the twists and felt completely invested. This is my third J.T. Ellison novel, and it was definitely my favorite so far.
