I can appreciate that this is written in a screenplay format. As such, being written with a one column per page format does make sense. It is easy to read and understand. It would be a great option as a Bible companion for a serious student. I'm not sure I would recommend it as a primary Bible source because it is a paraphrase, not a translation. Nuance is changed in some cases with word choice, such as Christ being changed to "The Annointed One" and Angels being changed to "The Messengers". If reading purely for literary value, this is a great option. If reading to study, I would suggest a word-for-word translation, such as the NKJV. If reading for pleasure, I would recommend a thought for thought translation, such as the NLT. That said, I will likely use The Voice New Testament from time to time with my children, as we explore the stories of Jesus more.

I'm just going to be honest. I don't see The Voice taking over my NIV or ESV as the Bible I'm taking to church with me on Sunday morning. I do, however, see myself using this a great deal when doing "Reading the Bible in 90 Days" or even when I'm doing a Beth Moore study. I see this more as a resource than an everyday bible. I do like the easy level of reading that is used and even the commentary that is scattered throughout. I would recommend for those not currently reading the Bible at all or those who enjoy studying different versions.

A bit of a different set up as far as the layout goes but it was kind of nice to have something a little different.
No issues with translation.

I got this book to compare translations. It all come down to stick with what I was use to. Whatever translation you choose it's a good book. No complaints with the translations. just decided to stick with what I had.

Just cleaning up my netgalley and found out this one is not on my kindle. Sorry, I never got around to reviewing it. Since I have to give a star, it doesn't reflect the book so pay it no mind.

I just wanted to apologize for not reviewing this book. We had a situation with one of our children (a teenager...) that took precedence and I was unable to get to a lot of my book reviews. That situation has now resolved (no more kids at home!), so I'm back to reviewing. Thank you so much for your understanding.

I certainly cannot criticize the author of this book since I think it is the word of God. However I can make some comments about the format since that is especially what makes this particular version unique. This version is formatted to reflect conversations something like a play would. Poetry is set up like poetry, whereas in many versions everything is just set up with equal spacing to fit within the columns on a page. It is a good version for public reading.
Although most readers are familiar with, and more comfortable with, a Bible printed in two columns per page this Bible is written like most others books that contain poetry and dialogue. it may be new to many readers but there is certainly a precedent to changing the format of a Bible. The original text of the New Testament was written in all caps in block style. I for one am glad that my forbears decided to change the format so we could read this important book.
