5 stars to this sweet children's book. Skunk opens his door and thinks it smells like fall. He smells apples. Yum! He knows they are ready to pick and wants to make an apple pie with a friend. He calls up Raccoon and Raccoon happily accepts. What follows is a walk through the woods, to be more specific, Buttercup Grove, and more friends join. I love the illustrations! Raccoon speaks to many forest friends and they join in each bringing some of the ingredients to go in the pie. Everyone is helping. No one is alone. Sweet Fox is having to use crutches. Raccoon offers to pull him in a wagon so he can come. All of the animals don't seem to have much to be happy about until they are invited to make pie.
I won't give away anymore of this precious story, but this....
"Be kind and compassionate to one another." ~~Ephesians 4:32
That is the message of the story and the little animals of the woods model it beautifully.
Many, many thanks to Harvest House Publishers via NetGalley and Wendy Dunham for a digital arc to read for review. Highly recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a sweetly told fall story about friendship, being there for others, co-operation and apple pie! The animal characters are sweetly drawn and engage the reader. A nice book to teach children about caring for others.
Autumn Is for Apple Pie (God Gives Us Friends When We’re Having a Bad Day) is part of a wonderful series by Wendy Dunham with illustrations by Michal Sparks. I love this series of season books which has forest animal friends who have adventures together.
My granddaughter finished kindergarten so while she couldn’t read the entire short chapter book she was able to read parts of it while I read the rest aloud. She enjoyed it immensely. Here are her thoughts. She liked how the animals showed kindness to each other as they worked together. She learned about friendship. Excellent concepts for a child to learn from reading the book.
The hardcover edition would made wonderful reading gifts for children ages, three to seven or so. The younger ones would enjoy the read aloud while the older age could read it themselves.
Autumn Is for Apple Pie is the story of Skunk journey to Raccoon's home to make an apple pie. Along the way, he finds friends that are more than willing to help. It's a beautiful story about inviting friends along and teamwork.
This story is perfect for Sunday School!
A wonderful, often hilarious, little picture book that harkens back to "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" about community working together to survive trying times.
A IS FOR APPLE PIE is a cute children's book that promotes sharing and caring. Skunk doesn't know how to make an apple pie so he invites Raccoon to come help him. On his way, Raccoon invites all his friends who are all having a bad day. It is a message of hope, friendship, and loving kindness.
The art work is lovely and sure to invite conversation in addition to the child's attention.
Recommended for children.
I was given a copy free. All opinions are my own.

“Autumn Is for Apple Pie” is a sweet story about making a bad day better through kindness and friendship. The illustrations are lovely and the tale inspiring. Skunk has waited all summer to harvest his apple tree and invites friend Raccoon to help make an apple pie. Raccoon runs into friends en route, all of whom are having bad days, so he brings them to Skunk's house, which each contributes a different ingredient to the party. The day is saved and ends with apt scripture: “Be kind and compassionate to one another.” Ephesians 4:32
Thanks to the author, Harvest House Publishers and NetGalley for the review copy, in exchange for my honest opinions.

This book was a quick, short read. It showed how each person had a role and that life wasn’t as dreary as we sometimes painted it. The writing was simple and would therefore be enjoyable to young readers.
The illustrations are gorgeous. Your child will enjoy looking at the pictures as much as they will enjoy reading the book.
This is such a sweet book about friendship between Skunk, Raccoon, Mouse, Fox, Beaver, Mole, and Rabbit, and how they all get along even though they are different from each other. It has cute pictures to go along with the story and a bible verse at the end. "Be kind and compassionate to one another." Ephesians 4:32. Thank you Netgalley and Harvest House Publishers for the ARC copy of this book. The opinions in this review are my own.
This sweet book is a little bit like Henny Penny or Chicken Little, in that Skunk is going along with some apples to make a pie and picks up a bunch of his friends along with way. They each bring something to help make the pie - eggs, flour, butter, milk, etc. Then they all help with the mixing and rolling and peeling to make apple pie. This is such a sweet story, and the illustrations are so cute. This would make a lovely bedtime story, and is a great story to teach about friendship and working together.
This is such a sweet book about friendship. I love all of the characters, their unique personalities, and their love for sharing with one another. The pictures are lovely as is the message.
I love the way this author incorporates key attributes of friendship into her books! Fall is my favorite season! In this story, two friends make plans to bake an apple pie together, but they reach out to include others they cross paths with along the way. Everyone contributes something, and it comes together beautifully. I believe that friendship is an important part of life and we need to take time to cultivate meaningful relationships.
I will gladly read this book to my children, over and over again. I am also planning to buy a copy for a friend. I plan to give it to her in a basket full of apples with my favorite apple pie recipe and plan for us to get together to bake and enjoy some quality time together.
