Butterface by Avery Flynn is a fun, sweet, and sexy read. I Loved the story and the characters stole my heart.
I am going to jump into the next book in this series. I am sure it's going to be amazing.
Such a good book that gives off a great message. Sad that things like this happen in life. But great things end up happening to great people.

I was intrigued to read Butterface by Avery Flynn because the author was bringing something different to the table, however, it didn't completely grip me. It took me a while before I could get into the story and at first, the characters were kind of annoying. It did move along though and by the end, I did like what I was reading.
I don't know if it was that the characters weren't fully developed or if the story wasn't flushed out, but something felt like it was missing for me. That said, the subplot was interesting and the ending brought it all together. She isn't just a meek and mild heroine. 3.5 stars.

Gina has been made fun of and put down most of her life. She knows she's not considered "pretty". But one hot kiss on a webcam video has her starting to think that maybe someone can look past just her face and see that there is more to her than meets the eye.
Ford is doing a private investigative job. The kiss was hot, but now he is living with Gina to make sure things are on the up and up, and hoping for a break in his investigation. Her brothers are tied to crime family.
But the more time he spends with Gina the more he likes her.
Once his week up he keeps finding reasons to be around her. Will Gina be more than just a dead end lead for Ford?
This book started out rough for me. It felt stuttered and didn't flow well. About the 50% mark it turned around for me and I liked the ending.

I have to say I have read a couple books about bullying lately and it made sit back and think about my own past and what I have called other people.. or what I had been called... this day an age people tend to really fall from the bullying they get from others but I feel more extreme than when I was younger.. suicide is the biggest problem with bullying and it breaks my heart to think my kids could possibly be inflicted with the hatred at some point.. but I hope and pray they are never the one bullying someone else or fall victim to the horribleness of it.. in this story Butterface is a slang word that is used and we all know what it means but I dont always think we realize how badly it can hurt someone... so what I will take mostly from this story is how much it affected someones life and how she rose from the ashes of the pain scrutiny. It took me a bit to get into this story completely but once it got going and the story unraveled I did enjoy it and would give it a 3.5 stars.
Gina has been shunned all her life because of not being the pretty girl... but she has found as an adult that she has to push it aside because she has plans for her future and to make that happen she has to be the face of her company and build it up to its greatest potential.. what she doesn't expect is her family and there history to determine her path in life.. She is not prepared for the onslaught of things that will unravel when Ford literally charges his way into her life in more ways than one... but will his secrets keep her safe or finally unravel her completely?
Get to one clicking to see what happens!

I have to admit... The beginning of this book made me feel a little angry. The whole Butterface thing was difficult for me. I had a hard time with the author's blunt description of her looks, but so much more so by the comments of the men in this book about her.
But the story was great, and, of course, I felt way better in the end about it all. So, my advice - be angry at the dick comments in the book. Keep reading. (You won't be able to stop anyway.) I think you will be happy in the end. I was.
Gina Luca lives with having inherited the very prominent family nose among other things. To be unkindly referred to as a butterface is not new to her. Too bad most don’t see that she is smart, full of sass with a huge kind heart. As a successful wedding planner she lives to give brides their dream day while having little hope of one for herself.
Ford Hartigan, is a cop, in a family of firefighters, intent on making rank as the youngest detective on the force. He also happens to be double-take kind of handsome.
Neither one of these people are on each other’s radar. UNTIL put on the spot by the Kiss Cam at a wedding and then things take a very interesting turn. WHAM! Shocked to their core by the sizzling heat and connection of that kiss, can they just move on and act like nothing happened? Of course not! There always has to be complication and I’m not talking about her “looks”. In order for Ford to make detective he has to bring down a mob syndicate. Guess whose brothers are involved with said mobsters? That’s right – Gina’s. These wise guys adore their sister as if she were a precious gem. Mess with her, hurt her, and you’ll find yourself at the business end of a Louisville Slugger courtesy of Paul and Rocco. In my mind, I imagined two big guys with a Christopher Moltisanti vibe under their smiling faces. I freaking loved these two though! They were funny and totally unapologetic about what they do for a living. Their sister and her wellbeing is priority number one for them.
Ford finds himself torn between his true and blossoming feelings for Gina and his professional ambition. Gina finds herself virtually nose to nose with this man who insist on invading her space and her life. She’s fiercely attracted to him but her insecurities keep her from acting on those feelings. Ford has an end game in mind but damn it – he can’t stop thinking about laying it on Gina. Soon they find themselves telling lies – like when Ford takes Gina to his family’s weekly Saturday lunch as his so called friend. Then more lies, all the while Ford trying to get the good on the brothers, until neither one can trust their words, their feelings or their reactions to each other.
I actually love that Gina didn’t go out and get cosmetic surgery because she wanted a man that would see her. Accept her. Love her. Isn’t that what we all want? Ford may have been gorgeous but he had to have the heart to stand up to his family and co-workers. He has to choose to follow his head or his heart.
In Butterface, I felt the theme of her looks was mentioned with a heavy hand. It’s not like the girl was a mutant creature from Planet X that people should stop in their tracks and ogle with their mouths open. Having said that, it had many moments that were sweet and funny and sexy. That’s what kept me reading. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. One family tied to the mob and the other full of cops? The possibilities for hilarity and mayhem are endless.
Love! So much love for this book!!! I loved that while Gina isn't the classic beauty we see often see in stories, she's learned to embrace herself, and while she loves her family, she's made sure she doesn't follow in their footsteps for their chosen careers lol. The whole kiss cam incident with Ford wasn't something either wanted to participate in, but sometimes that's when feelings can happen, when it's least expected. Of course there's bound to be some friction, since Ford is a police officer and Gina's family tends to lean on the side of breaking the law. Plenty of comedy gold to be found in this story!
Butterface by Avery Flynn is the 1st book in The Hartigans series. This is Ford Hartigan and Gina Luca's story. Gina was teased terribly pretty much all of her life for her looks so she has settled into forgoing any kind of relationship but has turned to being a wedding planner for others. It's at a wedding that she runs into one of the hottest men she's ever seen- Ford Hartigan. It’s at this wedding they are both at when she is caught on the kiss cam with one of the hottest men she’s seen – detective Ford Hartigan – who kisses her like he means it, sparking a sizzling chemistry that surprises them both. After the wedding party, life continues to throw the pair together, Gina finds herself doing the one thing she thought she never do- falling for Ford. Will Ford be able to convince Gina that she’s the one for him or will he end up hurting her worse than anyone ever has in the past? Ford is truly a good man and he is determined to show Gina that he’s different from the others, even if he does have ulterior motives. Will Ford be able to win Gina's heart ?
My rating: 4.6 stars *****
I adored Butterface, so much. An uncommon heroine who met the quiet and broody cop who might just had more than one motive to get to know her.
Gina Luca not only has quite a memorable face but also a well-knowing last name (not for the good sometimes). I guess reading about how she was bullied was pretty sad and infuriating. But the author turned it into something interesting, when the woman was owning it, not to let people get her down.
As a wedding planner she loved to make couples’ dream come true and to feel the happiness. People’s unkindness made her stronger but still was a bit naive because she wasn’t judging and trying to see the best in people. I liked her witty and bright personality, and how she could stand on her own.
Sometimes you don’t want to believe in love but you found it anyway and Ford was going to learn it the hard way. Being part of a family, where all his siblings were mostly firefighters, he was trying to find his own way, always following the rules. No exceptions. Until Gina… who had picked his interest and would put his integrity into his mission to the test.
Ford and Gia were definitely a great match, freaking hot and terribly endearing. Their interactions going from sweet to smoking hot in a few seconds, both trying not to get involved but craving badly each other.
A few pranks later, a kiss on a wedding and everything threw off the window. Between his job and his feelings, Ford was trying his best to collect all the information he needed, postponing the inevitable ending… but not without some meddling.
I adored the supportive and colorful characters (Gia and Ford’s family), loud, definitely too much but so entertaining. Adding some craziness and good-natured side about a story which wasn’t so lighthearted that it seemed to be. I liked this balance.
The way the author described the struggles of a woman who knew that she didn’t fit the standards of society but living like she owned it was a great way to show people to accept themselves just the way they are. To be proud and comfortable in their own body. Heartwarming, fun and sexy with a sparkling sense of humour!
So refreshing!
4 She's More than He Planned For Stars
My first Avery Flynn book and I loved it so much. Gina and Ford are unlike any H/h I've encountered recently. I laughed more times than I could count in this book. I love her sassiness and her confidence. We could all learn a few things from this girl!
Oh and Ford...he's a man that when he sees something he wants, he does anything he has to get it...whether it's bringing down a crime family or getting the girl of his dreams!
I'm so excited this is the beginning of a new series and we'll be getting more of The Hartigans in the books to come!!!
This book got me out of my slump and while it wasn't a "5-star" it was certainly a great book. I loved the mystery surrounding Gina's grandfather. I also loved the mafia aspect and that Gina didn't want to be a part of that. However, she knew how to take a gun apart in less than 5 minutes because that's what her and her grandfather did for fun. I loved that the heroine wasn't a traditional "beautiful" woman, but she was strong nonetheless. She had more substance in her pinky toe than most writers write about in 260 pages of a book and that is hard to come by. I liked how the hero is flawed and he knows it, he owns it and he tries to always do what's right to the best of his ability despite that. This is one of those novels that made me think while I enjoyed it and I really loved that. I have a thing about plots and storylines and that they MUST have one and this did. Well done Ms. Flynn!!
I was given an ARC by the author and NetGalley at no cost.
Butterface is book one in the new series, The Hartigans and is a fun and sexy story!
Ford works for the Police Department and is the outcast of the family as the rest of them are firefighters. With everything to prove, Ford is a guy who plays by the books.
Gina is a successful wedding planner but yet thinks that she may never walk down the aisle herself. She has been the victim of cruelty about her looks her entire life and now Gina believes it all.
But when a Kiss Cam has Gina and Ford front and center, their chemistry sets off a chain reaction of events that just can’t be ignored. Until secrets threaten every part of their relationship.
Butterface was a fun and sexy book that was full of emotions. I love how Ford really saw Gina for who she was and how Gina, like many of us women, was full of doubt about herself. This story was full of so many wonderful moments, I truly enjoyed it!
There are a couple of things that are bound to draw me in when I am browsing books. One, a cute cover something that Butterface has covered and who I’m blaming for my epic search for a cute pink dress. Two, a plain Jane story, which Butterface also has covered. Because of this I had no choice, I had to pick this book up and read. I am really pleased that I did, because I really enjoy, but rarely find, small town or family based romances that I like. But Avery Flynn, a new author for me, has written a cute family based contemporary romance that I can get my hooks into.
One of the aspects I like about this I have already mentioned; it’s a plain Jane story. But it isn’t a plain Jane story where actually with the right foundation and contact lenses, or with losing 10 pounds and adding some red lipstick it turns out she was beautiful after all *cue gasps*. I hesitate to say this as it’s so shallow and cruel, but Gina our heroine was ugly, her nose was far too big, her eyes bulged out, she had frizzy hair and even some pimples. She had resigned herself to never having a husband or children due to her looks, but was happy with the life she had made; good friends, a successful business and a loving (if criminal) family. Gina was a great heroine and as an imperfect person it was easy to identify with some of the insecurities as well as the strengths that she had.
Of course, then you have to throw in Detective Ford Hartigan, a by the book kind of guy who has yet to meet a rule he won’t follow. He also happens to be insanely good looking and part of a large boisterous family where at only 6’2” he’s the runt of the litter. I really liked Ford, he was a little bit on the edge of being a cookie cutter kind of hero. But, it’s hard not fall in love with a guy who doesn’t care what people says and thinks the woman everyone calls Butterface is beautiful.
The plot with this one is fairly predictable, you can map the events of the book by the time you have finished the first two chapters. However, that didn’t stop me from enjoying reading anyways. I loved the relationship between Gina and Ford, even though you know that it is due to blow up any second. I also really liked seeing the crazy Hartigans and can’t wait to read the next book. Finger crossed that Flynn stays with unconventional heroines, or perhaps I can hope for a plain “John” book in the future? Fingers crossed.
4 Kiss Cam Stars
Popping my Avery Flynn cherry with Butterface, a book that I enjoyed reading. Totally loved the background story that was being told as the same time I read the written story.
Ford is a detective looking to make a big bust that will prove to everyone, he is worthy at his do good, everything by the book age to one day become mayor. While at another police officer’s wedding, he was put on the spot.
Gina is a wedding planner. Looking to make her business a success. While at the recent wedding she planned, who would have thought that they would pick her to be on the big screen!
While these two meet in a pretty awkward way, there is no denying the chemistry that Ford and Gina felt. It’s after the wedding when the story gets interesting!!!
Can these two who are from totally different family types actually make it as a couple or will the first dinner or first party with the ‘other’ family doom this relationship right from the get go???
It’s a laugh out loud, emotional, but also the down right the honest truth in how people behave.

She’s the woman you might not look at twice and missing the opportunity to get to know her is the worlds loss..this is a FEEL GOOD stunner with witty fun and inspiration.
I love a book where the underdog gets the hot guy....but he’s not just a hunka-hunka slab of meat...no he’s all kinds of quirky all on his own.
Witty banter, strength, laughs, family and friends ...this book offers everything to keep a goofy grin splitting your lips and at the end you’ll have new characters to adore and love.
I sat back and sighed at the end because this book warmed my heart and Ford...well Ford is every insecure woman’s DREAM COME TRUE!
He sees her beauty, he needs her heart, he’s the perfect soothing balm for the stabby feeling inducing hurts of her past.
Butterface is a fun, fast paced and mostly feelgood read that completely stole my heart. Avery Flynn's writing drew me straight into the story. She weaves a tale well, introducing us to Gina ( heroine extraordinaire), Ford (our hero), Gina's brothers, Fords' family and his co-workers.
Gina is one of those characters, the women we all know and one who is completely relatable. From her love of organization to her desire to just be herself, I was rooting for her to have her moment. She doesn't suffer from a lack of self-esteem and this alone endeared her to me. But she is relatable because like most of us, she's taken a hit or two that gave her pause, hurt her feelings, and created some doubt. But at her core, she knows she's beyond worthy. And a moment on a kiss-cam would be one that would test her spirit and change her life.
Gina and Ford have amazing chemistry, they just jelled and although Ford motivations make him suspect, I could tell I would want to see him bring Gina the happiness that she deserves. Everything about her is genuine and real, and Ford is her perfect match. He makes some mistakes, Gina is made to give Ford a few too many chances, but in the end he is redeemable. This is the perfect end of summer beach read and one I highly recommend. 4.5 Stars
I just wanted to start off saying thank you to Entangled Publishing and the author for giving me a copy of this book. This was a fun book to read. It was steamy, exciting and to hot to handle. There were times where I felt like the sex scenes seemed rushed. Like, she touched herself twice and was done. I could have used a little more intrigue, but otherwise, the story was great.
Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
Butterface centers on Gina and I really liked her. She had an energy about her especially when she hasn’t always been treated well.
When Ford and Gina are suckered into kissing on the kiss cam at a wedding, needless to say, getting to know these characters is interesting and I loved how Ford actually ‘saw’ Gina!
I really liked how both of their families were very close and just that little bit crazy but also caring and helpful in relationship dilemmas!
I found the story enlightening! That beauty is within and not what you see on the outside!
Thank you to the author for writing a book that will make you think, sometimes throughout our lives people can be harsh but it only takes that one special person to see who you really are!
A story about acceptance, love, and finding the courage to follow your heart without caring what other think.
I loved the opening scene, it was emotional, exciting, and full of all the sexy witty one-liners we love from Avery.
Don't miss the start to another must read series from Avery!
I really enjoyed Butterface! It was a new concept in romance. Usually, we have BBW or socially awkward characters and so on. I can't think of but a single romance where the main character was deemed as not good looking. And it was that fact that really drew me in. Then I read it and I loved it. Gina is a woman with a real-world issue. Anyone who has something they were teased about can totally relate to her. She was just awesome. Ford is the probably my dream man. He is a strong but silent type. Add in that he is a cop and it just makes him hotter.
Their story is sweet and one that can slay a reader as well as make them fall hard. I would definitely recommend this book!
I knew as soon as I read the blurb that I wanted to read this book - an unattractive heroine is just as needed in the romance world as a curvy one - so this may be another case of me setting the bar unnecessarily high with my expectations. That's not to say that I did not enjoy the book - truly it was a delight and I really liked Ford and Gina. It was a great intro to a series (set to feature Ford's large family), as all of the secondary characters were likable as well. While I did like Gina and Ford's journey from Kiss Cam to HEA, there were times when the pacing of the plot dragged a bit and about halfway through I was beyond ready for Gina and Ford to go ahead and get in on so that they could hit the inevitable bump and get a resolution. But then when they hit the bump it was resolved so swiftly it was enough to induce whiplash. That being said, Avery Flynn did a fantastic job of expressing Gina's emotions in a way that I could really feel them with her, as well as depicting Ford's inner struggle to be a rule follower while falling head over heels in love. 3.5 out of 5 wine glasses.
