I hadn’t read the first Gina Harte book but that didn’t detract from my enjoyment and can easily be read as a stand-alone. Good solid characters and story lines.
My Review:
Loved!!!!! This one made me want to hug my family even tighter at night and never let them go. I want to start off by saying that this could definitely be made into a great psychological thriller movie. It had all the right components. It had great characters, storyline and one heck of an ending. Once I started this one I just couldn’t put it down. As each chapter went on I had to find out more and more. I had to know who done it and why. This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. I have read them myself out of order and have had no issues understanding any one of them. I also want to say how much I love this series. The main reason is because all the detectives mesh so well together. They act so much more like a family rather than just work colleagues that have to get along with each. It made me want to be part of their family and have what they have. Carla Kovach you have outdone yourself once again. I can’t wait to read more of your books.
In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I absolutely loved this book as well as the first book in the series. DI Gina Harte is an awesome character.
Gina Harte is one tough cookie! Think she is one of my favourite characters. Not giving any spoilers away! Just saying you really need to read this collection!
I really enjoyed this book and even though I did not read the first, I was not disadvantaged at all. The old boys club is alive and kicking in this book, stepford wives galore! DI Gina Harte is determined to find our what happened to young mum Melissa, who was found murdered in her home. It seems the 'men' in this book have sinister secrets that span years and DI Harte will get to the bottom of it, even if it kills her! I look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series, if this one is to go by there will be twists on twists!
Book 2 in the DI Gina Harte series and I loves this as much as book 1. This is a gripping read that had me hooked from the very beginning. A great book with great characters that I’m loving learning more about with each book. Can’t wait to read Book 3.
Finally got around to this one again. Tried picking it up before and couldn't get into it.
Wasn't really for me. Was very predictable and and ok read.
Thanks to the publisher and Net Galley
I tried to read this a few times and wasnt for me - I wasnt keen on the characters or the writing style but I know it is a popular series so maybe was me!
This book was just an okay read. Although there were a few twists in it the story overall was quite predictable and did not keep me interested.
As I received an early release galley copy, I hadn't read the first book in the series. However, I didn't feel like I missed anything and quickly picked up on the characters and background. The book opens with Melissa's murder, and the details of her marriage, affair, and secrets keep the reader wondering who was behind her brutal death and why she was a target.
The main detective, Gina, has skeletons of her own, which adds depth to her character. As an abuse victim, this plays into her views on Melissa's death--and her life under the thumb of a controlling husband. The chapters alternate between Gina and other side characters, which helps move things along, but it also made it a little harder to keep track of who is who. The book fits the usual detective tropes and was an enjoyable read. A good match for lovers of police procedurals.
Very thrilling and real page turner!
This is a second book of Detective Gina Harte series. This one is quite as good as the first one
The story was so intriguing. It was well written, fast paced and great storyline. I normally don't like the story that bad guys are revealed, but I raced through this book to the end to know how Gina nails them. I was shocked when I read the ending and I loved the twist.
Gina is stubborn and a fighter. She fights for the crimes and also her trauma. She opened up herself a bit on this book. I'd like to read more progress of herself and character development.
This series is one of my favorite now. I can't wait to read its sequel!
This is book 2 in the Gina Harte series, and they just get better. Gina has to investigate the death of a young mother, found by her husband. He seems innocent, and cares a lot about their young daughter. But all is not what it seems, and Gina has her hands full keeping the killer from killing again.
Recommended.
Her Final Hour is surely one of the most intense and disturbing book I’ve read this year.
Melissa Sanderson on the outside seems to be the perfect wife. And then her husband finds her murdered in their home. The police are called to the scene, head of investigation os DI Gina Harte. She will not rest until she finds the killer. As the investigation goes on, more and more evidence is found that Melissa’s life was anything but perfect.
Her Final Hour is the secong book by Carla Kovach’s Gina Harte series. I haven’t read the first book but that seemed not a problem.
The story got me hooked from the start, I couldn’t put it down. It was easy to follow and everything was in its place. The details...lots of details that made the story more real, more believable.
I liked Gina. She is a very strong, determined woman who is practically unstoppable. Despite her troubled past, all she wants is to help people, help Melissa.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy.
Brilliant book yet again. I love DI Harte she is a great character, human and feisty - obviously loves her team and they respect her. I find Carla writes so well I am sure I feel my pulse start to race. Although this is a 2nd book in the story of DI Harte you can read it as a stand alone as it still refers back to what happened in her life previously.
Her Final Hour, by Carla Kovach, is the second installment in the Detective Gina Hart series. Gina, who has gone through her own issues of violence in her recent past, can relate to the victims. Melissa Sanderson is found brutally murdered, and while the police generally look at the husband, he has an airtight alibi. The husband is very cold and controlling, making readers want him to be the murderer. As Gina investigates, she can relate to the victim, who it is decided, is a victim of domestic abuse. As the story evolves, readers learn who the real murderer is, but Gina and her team aren’t privy to some of the information. During the investigation, Gina puts herself, as well as others in danger, and since she has been put in charge of the case, is under intense pressure to solve the murder quickly.
Carla Kovach is a good storyteller, and the novel is well-organized and flows easily. The characters are well-developed and definitely believable. The book is set in Cleevesford, a small English town, which adds to the charm of the novel. The English environment with English idioms and culture makes for a different take on the suspense novel. There is building suspense throughout, and twists and turns that steer readers away from solving the murder before the actual dénouement. The plot is interesting, and the book, written simply, is easy-to-follow and is a fairly fast read.
While this novel is excellent as a stand-alone and is understandable without reading the previous novel, readers will want to read the first in the series for background on the protagonist and the characters. The series is good – Gina Hart grows on you – and the subsequent novels promise to be just as fascinating as the previous ones.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
I received a digital arc of #HerFinalHour:detectiveGinaHarteBook2 from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book takes place over the space of about 12 days following the brutal murder of Melissa Sanderson in her home. After reading this and the first in series, I definitely wouldn't want to live in Cleevesford and would stay the hell away from the Angel Arms pub as all trouble has a link to there! We find out fairly early on - 60% or so - who the murderer is but what we don't know is the motive. I thought I had it worked out, as complicated as it was (!) but I was wrong with the motive and with 1 aspect which was revealed in the last few chapters. My heart was pounding when the detective was attacked for the second time! I wasn't too keen on the motive when it was revealed but that's just personal opinion. Another well written book and I can't wait to read the next installment. You would definitely miss a lot of detail about Gina's back story if you've not read the first book before reading this - so I recommend reading them in order.
HER FINAL HOUR is the second crime thriller novel in the Detective Gina Harte Series, by author Carla Kovach. Having enjoyed the first book in the series, I move on to book 2. The story is set in Worcestershire England.
The 3 books in the series include:
The Next Girl (Book 1)
Her Final Hour (Book 2)
Her Pretty Bones (Book 3)
Melissa Sanderson has it all; she is the perfect wife and mother and lives in a dream home in the quiet suburbs. Her daughter is everything to her.
But looks can be deceiving.
Something is amiss in that house – all the neighbors think she is having an affair, and/or drinking too much.
Then one night, Melissa Sanderson is dead. Who would do this to a young mother?
The case is assigned to newly promoted Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) Gina Harte. The team soon discovers that the victim, Melissa Sanderson whole life was a front, and she was hiding a lot of secrets from everyone.
Told from multiple viewpoints, through Gina's investigation, but also those involved with the crime. A dark twisty mystery with strong female detectives.
Many thanks to Bookouture via Net Galley for my digital copy.
Her Final Hour is the second book in the Detective Gina Harte series and she has has just arrived back from holiday when she receives a call to say a woman has been found dead in her home. Melissa is found tied to a chair and strangled and her little girl is upstairs crying and her lover is the prime suspect. Melissa appears to have it all lovely home and husband and daughter but there have been rumours of Melissa drinking too much and having an affair. Melissa's lover is the prime suspect in the case and there was also a sexual assault back in 1993 but what does this have to do with Melissa's murder? There were lots of twists to keep me hooked the whole way through and I highly recommend this book.
Thank you to Bookouture, Carl Kovach and NetGalley for the arc of Her Final Hour my review is honest and unbiased.
Detective Gina Harte is back. A flawed detective who is determined to do right for the victims. Even though she has made mistakes in her personal life - a domestic violence partner, sleeping with the boss, not being there for her daughter. The job keeps getting in the way! You can't help but keep cheering her on!!!
'Her Final Hour' is book 2 in the 'Detective Gina Harte' series and, whilst it's clear that I am ok to review books out of order (check out my review for the third book in the series, #BlogTour! #Review – Her Pretty Bones by Carla Kovach (@CKovachAuthor) @Bookouture), I actually have read the books in order. It isn't completely necessary to read the books in the correct order, but be prepared for latter storylines to include snippets from earlier books, if you choose to read them in an order that suits you.
Gina Harte seemed to be the main focus of 'Her Final Hour' for multiple reasons, all which become clear at the storyline progresses. That said, there are plenty of other characters who make themselves known for their diabolical choices.
I have got to say that the prologue of 'Her Final Hour' is one of the most gripping and chilling prologues I think I have ever read! If I hadn't already been hooked by the first book in the series, I can guarantee that I would have been gripped to choking point after reading the first chapter of this book. Seriously. Carla Kovach has such a unique writing style which she showcases phenomenally throughout this entire book.
There was a lot of this storyline which left my mouth as dry as the Sahara desert and as though my stomach was full of rocks - but as weird as this sounds, I welcomed my uncertain reaction to it because after all, I am human!
I thought the fact that Gina Harte's personal life gets put under the spotlight in regards to the teams latest case, was very cleverly done as it allowed readers an insight to the Detective which we may not have seen otherwise. I won't lie and say that the contents were easy to read, because they weren't, yet it worked because its life and things like the events in this book, happen in everyday life.
If my heart rate was being measured whilst I was reading 'Her Final Hour', I reckon there would have been a high chance of me going overboard - I'm genuinely surprised that I remembered to breathe! Just....
'Her Final Hour' is a dark, spine tingling read which kept me prisoner from start to finish. A truly outstanding addition to a belter of a series.
