I have to say I'm disappointed in this book. I requested The Forbidden Door from NetGalley and received an ARC version for review. I had previously read The Crooked Staircase (#3 in the Jane Hawk series) and enjoyed it.

All of the problems I had with The Crooked Staircase I have with The Forbidden Door - but now they're less excusable. The Crooked Staircase seemed to have a lot of filler 'issues' that came up for Jane to deal with, and at times it became a tedious description of a series of steps and explanations. The Forbidden Door is all of the same and even worse (or after having read one entire book like this already, maybe I just have less patience for it).

I found myself skimming quite a bit to get through the tedium, but every now and then I would miss something critical and have to go back (most notably the scene with the sassy old lady and her small dog).

I was also frustrated that the Techno Arcadian agents seemed to, in turns, be either preternaturally aware of a situation (e.g., the chalk paint situation) or deliberately choose a terrible course of action (e.g., Laurie's situation).

You feel for Jane and Travis, but there's just not a whole lot of room for character development and tender moments in the midst of all of the 'action.'

Once again, I feel as though I read a book that didn't go anywhere and had no great resolution. I won't be reading future books in the Jane Hawk series.

Once again Dean Koontz creates a Jane Hawk book that keeps you reading into the night. Dean is a such a masterful writer you can count on him to weave a tale that makes you want the next book when you finish one. You believe and love the characters and are kept interested throughout the book. Jane Hawk is the most wanted former FBI agent in the country and not by the good guys. Framed by those in power and they will do anything to bring her down. In order to flush her out they go after her child any friends she has been know to even know casually and any relative to get to her. She must at all costs keep her son safe and hidden. Excellent reading and now I can't wait for the next one! I received an AFC for my honest review. I love his writing and this story of Jane Hawk is a great read.

I just have to throw out there that Jane is my freaking hero! She's a badass and don't take no crap. These books are always so well written that you get lost and lose track of time. By the time you finish you are ready to throw the kindle and scream lol. I absolutely loved it.

I was simply blown away by this novel. After reading the previous novel in this series, I knew it wouldn't be a light read. That said, this book doesn't disappoint as it continues to fill in and build up the characters and plot. The mixture and diversity of the characters and their backgrounds and experiences crafts an intricate story for the reader. Dean Koontz has already shown what a brilliant mind and masterful storyteller he is, and this book is no exception. I would strongly recommend this series and book to any mystery and thriller fans. You will not regret it.

The forbidden door by Dean Koontz was a page turner. Jane Hawk is on the run and accused of being a traitor. When she finds out that something has happened to friends that was taking care of her son, she takes action to get him out harms way. This isn't my first book that I have read of Dean Koontz but it is my first Jane Hawk book. I enjoyed this book, it kept me on the edge of my seat.

I so hate leaving bad reviews for books that were provided at no cost to me, but as much as I've desired to read Dean Koontz for a long time now, I couldn't get a lot of enjoyment from "The Forbidden Door". It was just "too much" for me. I had to kind of force myself to pick up my Kindle each time I read some and was quite eager to finish and move on to something else.

Thank you, NetGalley for the advanced copy. This is a series where Jane Hawk is trying to determine why there has been such an increase in suicides, including her husbands. In her search for an answer, she finds that a group is selectively implanting people with a device which is causing control over these people and ultimately their suicides. This book continues her search to do away with this group and protect those that she loves and cares about.

Overall, I feel that this series is becoming repetitive. Knowing that there is still at least one more book tends to make me wonder if there are any new twists that cwn be implemented or if it will be the same, just worded differently.

Jane Hawk is back and more badass than ever. She's a woman who knows how to get what she wants and take care of herself. Dean didn't disappoint with this one. I couldn't put it down.

I requested this book  (fourth in the series) as I have read  the other books in the series by the author.

This book continues the story of Jane Hawk and her quest to prove that her husband did not commit suicide, but was murdered as part of a secret government plot to control the future. While this book was better than the third one, it still lags behind the quality of the first two. This is not usual for any serial books. Also, it is not a good stand alone book as reading the first three makes this one easier to follow. That said, I did find the book enjoyable, engaging and a fast read.

I recommend this book to fans of Dean Koontz and those who have read the other books in the series.

The Forbidden Door is the newest novel in the Jane Hawk series by Dean Koontz. As with previous novels, Jane is on the run, trying to keep her son safe while breaking up a conspiracy at the highest levels of government that is seeking to control the minds of the population of America. Going from a decorated FBI agent to a fugitive, Jane crosses the country to confront and kill those who are the power behind this secret group.

Jane uses military tactics and precision to keep herself safe, but can she save her friends and family? Will she reach her objective? Unfortunately we don't find the answer at the end of this book...hopefully there won't be too many more in the series because I'm honestly losing interest in the things she is doing in order to stay safe. I'm hoping the whole concept is unrealistic, but I'm afraid it's not. I just would like to see how it ends...soon!

Cover to cover thriller. This is next hit book in the Jane Hawk series. Jane is ex CIA agent trying to fight evil consortium within government. The basic plot is frightening because it's plausible. Must read book.

Dean Koontz is the master of suspense. Continuing the story of Jane Hawk, he delivers nonstop action as she fights against the forces that would enslave us all. Highly recommended.

The Forbidden Door is tense, action packed drama at its best. There are multiple threads woven throughout that all fit together to make a fast paced, intense story. Jane Hawk is an incredible, kick-ass, strong main character!

The tension I feel while reading this book is intense. I love Jane, worry about the characters who help her (endangering themselves), and wish I could much much faster. I need to KNOW what is going to happen at the same time I'm reading all the events that lead up to it. I'm hoping Mr. Koontz resolves this series in another book or two. I don't know if my heart can take it (and I need my sleep)!

I love everything by Dean Koontz, and this book did not disappoint! This is the 4th book in the Jane Hawk series, but I have not read the other 3....I will now run to the book store to get them!! It can be read as a stand alone, but I'm excited to find out more. The characters are well formed, every the bad guys. Koontz did it again!

A good story, like the characters a great deal but hate the jumping around the author does. Wish he would spend more time on each character/storyline before moving on.

Jane proves again that her instincts are honed, her shooting hand is steady, and her loyalty to her family is fierce. She's a problem solver, thinking outside any box I’ve ever known. She is prepared to do anything, legal or not, to save her son and take down the organization that stole her husband from her. Her strategy is to distract and move closer and misdirect and pounce.  She not opposed to, but finds it oddly surreal that she is now working with the criminals she used to bust.

The Techno Arcadians and the Unknown Playwright have set their sights on two pieces of leverage: Jane's son and her in-laws. They feed the media faulty evidence about Jane and send a team to capture the Hawks, but Nick's parents flee and the chase begins.

The Arcadians ranks continue to swell as they cast the neuro net and "adjust" more and more people. Another set of villains is tasked with finding Jane's son Travis. He is currently safe in wealthy recluse's bunker near Anza-Borrego in Southern California. But at the end of The Crooked Staircase, Jane's good friends and her son's protectors were located and killed when they went out to the local market. This puts the bad guys very close to Travis. One phone call to his mother, and she formulates a plan to retrieve her son.

If you like detailed descriptions of weapons, tactics, and specialized soldiers... If you like multiple points of view: the protagonist, the deadly terrorists, and the innocents... If you like fast-paced action, a likable hero, and the takedown of government infiltration... This series is for you. 

I have to keep reminding myself that the action in Jane Hawk has only occured over a couple of months, but over the course of four books and two dozen threads... time stretches. Not in a bad way.  I'm enjoying the serial-type way Koontz is releasing these books; it keeps the story fresh and me interested. The Forbidden Door completes its arc as all the stories finally converge on an ending that is both a way station and a nervous pause until Koontz releases the next book. It will be called The Night Window, and I assume it will be out in early '19 as six months has been the approx time between the last two books.

This being the fourth book in the series, I read it with high anticipation of Jane and Travis being reunited. There is SOOOO much I want to say about that, but I do not want to spoil it for anyone who is an avid reader of the Dean Koontz Jane Hawk series. One thing I can say is that I love the new character introduced...Cornell. He is a very lovable and strange character who I think, from the way the book ended, almost has to be recurring. I recall chuckling at one point, but it was a short laugh. Too much serious stuff to be giggling about anything! I often found tears in my eyes. The writing is so spectacular; it takes no effort at all to put myself right into the action. I came to love the characters, so much so that I know I will be devastated when (or if) Bernie and Cornell die, which I'm almost positive will happen as no one individual is immune to death in the Jane Hawk series.

As I said earlier "King Koontz" is back on track with this series. Naturally they come for the son but we figured that in book #1 right? The villains, with great stories of their won think they can trap an angry mom and you can read how that turns out. This is #4 but explains the entire story line so could be read as a stand alone novel EXCEPT for the ending. Koontz is King!

Dean Koontz is expert at building captivating characters who become unlikely heroes and #TheForbiddenDoor is no exception. The Jane Hawk series explores the possibility of a mysterious group attempting control of the country through nano implants that make the receivers into drones. Please read the previous books for full enjoyment of this series.

Jane Hawk is riveting as the heroine of this series. Her FBI training allow her to remain several steps ahead of the bad guys until this latest edition. In The Forbidden Door, the powers behind an epic conspiracy put on the full press of their resources to bring Jane down. She manages to barely stay ahead with the help of some friends from previous books. You can feel Jane's exhaustion through the pages as she works against the conspiracy and tries to block them from getting to her son.

The characters of Jane, Bernie, Luther, Cornell and Jane's son, Travis are so well described you will feel as though you have met them. Each of them are heroes in their own way and together they make a strong team. The enemy carves swaths of destruction through human lives in their quest to stop Jane and her allies. They are relentless and remorseless.

Make sure you begin this book on a weekend, you will not want to put it down. The Forbidden Door will leave you rooting for the home team while dreading what horrors the enemy will come up with next.
