Koontz continues with this thriller that keeps you glued to every page living the same adventures that Jane finds herself in. The great story continues.

A chilling continuing story about a secret society that wants control of the world

In this fourth book of the Jane Hawk series, Jane finds that some of her well-laid plans for the protection of her five year-old son are at risk and so she rushes to rescue this most important person in the world to her.

Jane is an ex-FBI agent that is hard on the trail of the Arcadians, the group behind the staged suicide of her beloved husband.

You really need to start at the beginning of this series and read the books in order. I had previously read the first three books but just finished re-reading them because it had been a while since I finished them. I'm glad I did. There were bits and pieces all the way through those first three books that I had forgotten.

Jane is one kick ass mother/wife out for her own vengeance plus to protect the world from the coming threat.

Bernie is back in this book and I love his character. And I love a new character added in this book. This is my favorite book of the series so far. It IS over 400 pages but the pages and the story zoom by. Lots of action and tears of sadness and happiness are shed.

I am now off to read the fifth and final book in the series THE NIGHT WINDOW.

I received this book from Random House through Net Galley in the hopes that I would read it and leave an unbiased review.

I should have stopped at the 3rd to be honest. I find sometimes with series when you get to the 4th/5th/6th etc that the story falls apart a but and I just wasn't near as into this one as the previous books. I kept reading because I wanted to get to the end and I don't regret reading it, but I was often bored and other books took precedence. With that said, should there be another somehow, I would still probably read it because I'm now committed to the story.

Welcome to Book 4 in the Jane Hawk series. The conspiracy in this series just continues to deepen. I don't want to give away anything if you haven't read the first 3 books yet, so I'll just say that this part of the story centers around Jane trying to get back to her son while a national manhunt is underway to apprehend her. The media and the FBI are painting her as the most dangerous woman in the country but the few that are close to her know differently.

First of all, the conspiracy is complicated but not to the point of being outside the realm of possibility, which is something that really turns me off from a book. One of my favorite things about this series is the diversity of the characters. Mr. Koontz has created a cast that is black, white, Latino, young, old and in-between. One of the best characters in this book is the young man with autism. He plays a critical role and I think the author does a great job of writing this character's personality and the quirks that come with autism. Now, let me talk a little bit about the bad guys. They just keep spiraling further and further into their depravity. There's a couple of guys that are more than determined to find Jane and will stop at nothing to bring her in, dead or alive. But even these characters have distinct personalities and the interplay between them add a richness to this thriller that makes it an even better read.

Once again, Dean Koontz has tickled my imagination and sent chills down my spine with this latest installment in the Jane Hawk series. I can't recommend this series enough. Book 5, "The Night Window", comes out in about a month, so hurry up and get started on this series!

Excerpt from Review: "...Dean Koontz has always had a way of creating characters we can relate to and root for, but one-shots are easy. When you create a series, you have to make sure the reader is captivated and doesn’t get tired of the trials and tribulations of the main character. Trust me, there was no getting bored with Jane Hawk in this series. I was utterly mesmerized by The Forbidden Door, loathe to put it down for mundane things like sleep and work. I even kept reading through meals, rooting for Jane and her allies against the Arcadians, but finding the Arcadians just as fascinating as the good guys. Dean Koontz is one hellluva writer – this, I already knew – but his Jane Hawk series is like nothing I have ever read from him before. It makes me want to go back and read the Jane Hawk novels I missed and it definitely makes me want to get my hands on the next book in the series, The Night Window. This series is a must read for any fans of Dean Koontz’ writing!"

This was a great book and I was able to see more about what Jane Hawk has been going through while trying to find out what really happened to her husband and so many others. Jane is going to do whatever it takes to get to the truth and protect her son at the same time. Some unusual friendships form and connections are made.

Thank you to Random House Publishing, Dean Koontz, and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my candid review.

Scary world. Gives me nightmares, but it is a fascinating read.

This is book Four of an extended series about a former FBI agent who is pursuing shadowy figures that are trying to control the world via brain controlling nanotechnology. And its hard to know who to turn to because "they" control people in the FBI, NSA, police, government, etc......

Jane Hawk is an amazing hero and this book justs keep going, and going, and going......I could not put it down.

I have gone back to book one and started from the beginning. Read it---you will love it.

Jane Hawk is a great heroine and I have been enjoying this series, anxiously awaiting Jane’s victory. I found the first books very good as we learned more about the Techno Archadians and saw their effects on the adjusted people. However this book was more of a long chase scene. We see less of Jane and more of the bad guy chasing her and anyone involved with her while trying to find her son. There are more bad guys in this book, too many in fact. It left me a little confused. Even though this book left me disappointed like few Dean Koontz’s books do, I am still looking forward to the next (last?) installment coming in May. Thanks to Random House and Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book.

I always enjoy the Jane Hawk series, although the mind-control technology is super creepy. I enjoyed this book a lot. I liked the variety of the characters I hadn't read before and the familiarity of those I had.

As always, Dean Koontz does not disappoint. I remember after reading my first, second, third...etc Dean Koontz books that I thought he really had a way with creating so many little twists and turns in his book that you just had no idea how it would end up. The Forbidden Door is no exception to that. It is a fast paced, page turner of a book that will keep you up too late at night.

This is the fourth book in the Jane Hawk Series and you really would want to read these in order. Mainly this series is about Jane, who is on a search to find out why her husband was killed and who did it. His death was set up to believe that he committed suicide but Jane knows better. She is hiding for her life depends on it as she is hunted by some government officials, who have a way to find their enemy. Jane used her intelligence to outsmart the enemy. She is an ex F.B.I. agent and is a wanted fugitive. Jane's enemies are determined to see her dead or make her wish she was dead. The Arcadians are just pure evil. They use a drug and inflicts it into people, and then they have total mind control of them. They do it to those who they feel are a threat to society.

With the madness spreading like a virus, the war between Jane and her enemies will become a fight for all their lives- against the lethal terror, unleashed from behind the forbidden door.

This book was super action packed. The books in this series, just get better and better. Make sure you have plenty of time on your hands because I didn't want to put this book down. This is a thriller series. I loved the writing style. This is a long book but the chapters are short and it has riveting suspense that makes it a fast paced read and it didn't take me long to finish it. My heart was pumping and I was holding my breath and coming up for air several different times to find out what was going to happen next.

I love Jane's character. She is an add kicking heroine and doesn't seem to be afraid of any thing and truly trusts her insyincts. I loved the dynamics of the characters.

I highly recommend this series to thriller fans. I can't wait to read the fifth book, The Night Window! Coming Soon!

I want to thank NetGalley, Random House and Dean Koontz for the copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Words. So. Many. Words. When you take on the Jane Hawk series, you have to be prepared for the commitment that it is. Dean Koontz is an author that likes his words, some are repetitive, others may involve a dictionary, or a search engine, and a rare few, even a translator. That being said, you are in for a breath catching adventure laid out by an Unknown Playwright that has a tendency to throw the unexpected in when a character might need to be dealt the unforeseen.

With a slow start that gains momentum, Jane is desperately trying to get to her 5-year-old son Travis who has been kept in hiding by close friends. When the protector’s cover is blown, in a graphic shoot out, a scared child calls his mother and Jane “with no emotion hotter than the terror that blazed in a mother when her child was in peril” will not stop until her son, and his new friend Cornell, and dog companions are safely tucked away.

Each book brings back previous introduced malevolent characters, but also reminds the readers of the good people that have helped Jane. The Forgotten Door reunites two of the best and with their help, Travis just might have a chance. That does not mean that there is not more treachery coming their way from the Techno Arcadians since this book ends on an interesting precipice and though Jane is granted a few quiet moments, that is no guarantee they will last especially when the ‘beautiful monster’ has more work to do.

I really wanted to like this book. And I think I would have if I had had any idea of what was happening in the story. This book is part of the Jane Hawk series and will be impossible to follow if you haven't read the previous books. I hadn't but I wasn't concerned (prior to beginning this book) because with most books, you can catch up enough to enjoy the story. That is not the case with this book. Do yourself a favor and read this series. It seems like a good one.

A strong female character + Dean Koontz's writing = Jane Hawk.

With a plot that continually forces the reader to turn the next page and characters that make the reader consider each written word to truly savor the nuances, THE FORBIDDEN DOOR by Dean Koontz is a terrifying and captivating book.

But be warned, this book is not for the weary-hearted reader. As a huge Koontz fan, I know he always has good win out over evil in the end, but the path getting there is blocked by plenty of bristles and brutality.

The "Arcadians" are taking over Jane's fictional world, and it seems as though they're taking over the series' narrative as well. I loved reading from Jane's viewpoint. I disliked reading the chapters from the brutal Aracadian loyalists' viewpoints, because that was when the story became a challenge to read with all the foul language and extreme violence (physical, sexual, and mental). As I read those pages (because I didn't want to miss any plot points), I kept begging Koontz to please give me back Jane's perspective. LOVE HER. Hate the bad guys. But I suppose that's the point, eh?

The plot in THE FORBIDDEN DOOR kept me guessing and engaged. However, I kept wishing the next chapter would focus on Jane's direct plot line and less on the numerous villains.

When it came to characters, I was thrilled to see some of my favorites working together to rescue young Travis. Beyond that, the story certainly featured some unusual characters, which were a bit extreme and hard to believe. I'd have to say my least favorite was Egon Gottfrey, who believed nothing in the world actually existed. It was all "established by the Unknown Playwright" but then, as if a subliminal message, Koontz wrote, "There's no point hating the Unknown Playwright." Ha. Additionally, there were so many characters introduced, I struggled to know which ones were relevant to the long term story line and which ones were merely expendable. Many could have been cut without affecting the story's outcome. My favorite character (not counting Jane) would have to be Bernie Riggowitz. LOVE him. Everyone needs a Grandpa Bernie in their lives.

This is the fourth book in this series, and boy, there were plenty of unexpected events happening. While some passages seemed repetitive (like the continual explanation that a "LockAid lock-release gun will automatically pick any deadbolt"), there were new elements that happened in the "revolution" that really mucked things up - both for the Arcadians and for Jane. The Jane Hawk series of books definitely needs to be read in the proper order, from start to finish.

Dean Koontz has certainly mastered the art of writing a suspense novel. Some of my favorite lines from THE FORBIDDEN DOOR included:

"A thread of blood sews its way from the right corner of her mouth, down her chin, along her slender throat."

"With the sneeze quelled, she began to move again, only to press her face through the silken strands of a spiderweb that masked her from brow to chin. Startled, she paused to wipe off those sticky threads, wondering if the eight-legged architect might even now be crawling through her hair."

"...a pain in her chest, as if some demonic angler had cast a line and snared her heart with one of those fishing lures that had multiple wicked hooks."

Regarding the evil Arcadians, trying to take over the world: "They had more passion than those who resisted them. ... A passion to silence all dissent and to make a world in which they wouldn't have to hear an opinion at variance with their own."

"Death plays games with the living, just to impress upon them that no one is immune from the touch of his fleshless fingers, not even freckled little girls."

"Driving cool wheels when you go off a cliff won't buy you a soft landing."

And my ultimate favorite:

"Though evil could win in the short term, it could be defeated in time."

If you're a Dean Koontz fan, I recommend the Jane Hawk series. If you're already reading the series, keep reading, because Koontz offers terrific twists and turns.

This was much better than the book prior in the series. The characters stayed more consistent as did the plot. It was also darker than the rest in the series, also full of fillers (unnecessary long winded descriptions). Nevertheless the story itself is such a page turner, still worth the read!
