I Hate You, I Love You is a good fit for readers who enjoy watching two rivals engage in playful banter and explore their underlying romantic tension while dealing with academic competition and personal growth.
I thought the premise of this book was good and that I might be able to relate to the characters because I work in higher education. Unfortunately, the chemistry between Naomi and Sebastian was more middle school bickering than adult "they really like each other." That got tiresome. The overall setup was okay, but there were too many places where 50 words were used instead of 10. Reading long, drawn-out, flowery sentences was a little tedious when I just wanted the action to continue. Because I didn't really like the characters, I found I didn't care what happened to them. Other readers may have a different experience reading this book, but it wasn't for me. This review was written based on a digital copy of the book from Loveswept. Cannot review as Netgalley archived the book before I could read it & my new Kindle does not have this title.
When I read the blurb I was instantly hooked, especially after reading the Warning "Intense bickering leads to intense sexual chemistry!" How can I pass it up, right?
Hmm, I think I should have skipped this book because it definitely wasn't for me. Mainly, I think I was turned off by the characters. I've always enjoyed enemies to lovers romances and the premise was intriguing, but as the story progressed I came to realize that I didn't much like the characters and that the bickering, although intense, didn't lead to any intense sexual chemistry. It just annoyed me to no end. Neither Naomi nor Sebastian made an impression on me and having them behave like children--being mean and unprofessional at times--didn't appeal to me. Maybe with a bit more light-hearted bickering and more candid moments where a true connection could be seen, I would have become invested in their relationship . As it was, by the end of the story I didn't much care what was happening.
All in all, an okay read but not the story for me.
I am usually all for any enemies to lovers book, but this one didn't work for me. Naomi and Sebastian's antics and bickering were a bit too juvenile for my tastes and didn't seem to fit their stage in life.
This took a nasty tumble from trying to be another version of The Hating Game. Slow, predictable, not for me.
What a fascinating book. I was impressed by the storyline and the characters were all well written and complex. Where there are complex storylines combined with intriguing characters the reader experience is magnified tremendously. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. The word building was phenomenal in this book. Here I forgot about my own life and was immersed in the world created by the author. I would recommend this book.
Eh not my favorite book. It was fun to read but not something I would read again. The characters were just meh
Was this cheesy? Yes. Was it not all real-life of College Professors? Yes. But I did enjoy the few hours it brought to me. So, I called this a win. Nothing was new or surprising in this book, but it was enjoyable, and sometimes that is all that you want.
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this titles. Unfortunately this book archived before I was able to download it and I will not be able to submit a review at this time.
This was a cute and sweet enemies to lovers RomCom. I enjoyed the relationship and banter between Naomi and Sebastian. Great read with some steamy scences and HEA.
I Hate You, I Love You was a great read by Elizabeth Hayley. Naomi is a poetry professor at Hainamor University. Naomi is up for a prestigious honor and the only person in her way is the handsome Sebastian. They are not only fighting to win the honor but they are both fighting the attraction that they have for eachother. I loved reading their story and can't wait to read more by Elizabeth Hayley.
There is well-done enemies to lovers, with snarky banter and wit while keeping the main characters still quite likable at core. And then there is MCs who fight like children and are just not likeable at all. This book, sadly, falls into the latter.
This book was a solid read but not exactly what I was expecting for a romance novel. Not that I mind some deeper themes with my fluffy happiness, but this book took several dark turns that I wasn't expecting. I guess that is what makes this a compelling read. A job well done.
A cute romance read that I can recommend to those that enjoy this genre. A quick and light read that many will enjoy.
This is one of those hate to love stories that I absolutely love. But, this is my favorite one!!! I was so engrossed in the story. It went from a 3 star to a 4 star to a 5 star book! I fell in love with the characters. I cried, I belly laughed, I enjoyed myself. It was a pleasure reading this from beginning to end. Thank you so much to NetGalley for allowing me to review this book!
Naomi and Sebastian definitely show you how thin the line is between love and hate. Two college professors that are up for a coveted award but must work together when they can’t stand the sight of the other. It was interesting to learn why Sebastian was less than congenial any Naomi had a hard time opening up. Perfectly matched together in every single way.
This steamy romance is a roller coaster ride that will make you laugh, make you hot, and even make you shed a few tears. It is a full-length standalone novel. NO cheating, NO cliffhangers, and a guaranteed Happily-ever-after!
I loved this. A LOT. It was cute and fun and just the sort of romcom-y, college professor-set romance that I adore (and listen, the rivalry and the banter and the Cute One entrancing the Grumpy One is all sorts of right up my alley).
What I didn't like? What I hate. Is that cover. So please ignore that when reading.
Not even sure why I've been stalling this book had it for some time now and finally picked it up. I loved it! I'm trash for hate to love type of relationships and this book just did it for me. I loved that chemistry between the two, the banter, the slowly but surly softening towards one another as they get to interact more. This was such a great book I pretty much devoured it.
If you like The Hating Game by Sally Thorne I think you'll love this book and vise versa. Both are pretty great books.
