All the feels. This one hit really close to home and I could relate in so many ways. Arden and Wade are mutual friends through Arden's best friend and Wade's sister. They've known each other since high school and have remained the type of friends you love to hate with banter. Arden needs Wade to win over a new big client at her bridal business. While Wade needs Arden to pretend to be his fake girlfriend to get the catty women around town to leave him alone since he doesn't want to date still (his wife died 3 years ago). The characters are very well developed, they are wholesome, and this is the kind of romance novel I could even let my mom read. Now, if only it hadn't given me all the feels and wonder about my own relationship!
The fake relationship trope is one of my favorites which is why I was so excited to read Catch Him If You Can. I immediately liked Wade because what's not to like about a gorgeous man who loves and treats pets all day long? Add on top of that his total lack of awareness over his own appeal. Talk about a great start for a book boyfriend!
Unfortunately I never really warmed up to Arden which severely impacted my ability to enjoy this story. She was just annoying and kind of selfish and sure, it slowly began to change but I just never connected with her.
Catch Him If You Can was a well written story that was funny at times and entertaining but for the matchmaking busybodies, over the top treatment of her client and her overall bad attitude. There were things I didn't like about the story but it well written well, the characters were engaging--probably too much so considering how I still feel about Arden--and the town seemed like a great place! As a Jennifer Shirk fan I can tell you this won't detract me from another of her books!
When the elderly folk of Cape Harmony hatch a plan to become matchmakers for veterinarian Wade Roberts, he becomes desperate. Desperate enough to ask his sister's best friend to pretend to be his girlfriend. As a widower still very much missing his wife he is not interest in a relationship, especially with a random woman thrust at him.
Due to the fact that Arden Pearson's own engagement ending in a sudden disaster, the closest she imagines getting married is by being a wonderfully successful wedding planner. Now with a huge client that can really set her on the map, she decides to pretend to be engaged - to none other than Wade. Even though they have known each other for years, and this may all be a ruse, their secret desires indicate otherwise.
While this is my first read by Jennifer Shirk, I can I was quite pleased. It is a delightfully fun, quirky and quick read with a sweet romance. Watching these two come together for real was quite a delight. I quickly read this book in one sitting. Catch Him if You Can is Book Two in the Accidentally Yours series, but read quite easily as a standalone.
Many thanks to Entangled Publishers and to NetGalley for this ARC to review; this is my honest opinion.
I will admit I was drawn to this one at first because Wade is a Veterinarian. Then I read the rest of the blurb and I knew I had to read this one. I'm so glad I did because I just gobbled it right up. The characters are great. Plus it has one of my favorite troupes best friend's brother/sister's best friend. I really enjoyed the banter between Wade and Arden. It was one of my fave things about the book. Wade and Arden come up with a plan to have a fake relationship, but what happens when all too real feelings start to form? These two have their reasons for no relationships, but do they still hold true when a HEA is in their grasp. This was a great light hearted fun read.
This is the first book I've ever read by Jennifer Shirk. I enjoyed it so much that it won't be the last. I will admit that I decided to read it only because of the cute cover. I needed something light and fun to read and it looked like it would be just what I needed.
Catch Him If You Can turned out to be just that. I had such fun reading this story. I loved the characters, even the busybody ones. Of course I wouldn't want them to be helping me match up with someone but it was fun for them to do it with someone else.
I understood why Wade has waited so long to start living again. After a loss you kind of go in shut down and sometimes you don't even realize it's happened. I think, or maybe I should say I know he just needed the right person to drag him back to the living.
Arden did just that and more.
These two together are just so much fun to read. I'm not saying it went well between them all the time because we all know life isn't a smooth, tons of bumps in the road. But in the end they worked together and that's what I love about romances.
I really did enjoy this one and can't wait to read more by her. Unforgettably this is book two and I didn't even think of that when I agreed to read it. You all know how I like to read in order. I will mention that I didn't know it was book two for the most part, yest the characters from the first book are in it and important to this story but I was left slightly in the dark about them so I can go back and read book one with no issues of feeling like I've been there, done that.
I have always loved Jennifer Shirk's books. I love her sense of humour and the sweetness of her characters. Catch him if you can is a great example of her books. :) The main characters are likable... The male characters aren't too broody and not too annoyingly alpha..... and trust me... some male characters in rom-com books can get REALLY annoying but .... Wade is cute and romantic. He has the funniest dialogues with the female character (Arden). Love the heroine too. Both are lovable characters. Finished the book in a day AGAIN....
Wade has been shattered by love before and isn't in any hurry to find love again, much to the dismay of the meddling menagerie of women in town. These women cracked me up! From Judy at the coffee shop, who only hears what she wants to hear, to the ladies bringing in "sick" pets to the clinic and leaving food on his doorstep, there are a lot of laughs brought to the reader by these ladies. Wade is the hot, but nerdy, vet in town and isn't safe from anyone's advances.
Arden, Wade's younger sister's best friend, has also been crushed by love, in a completely different way, and is content in planning the best weddings of the year with her business. I would die to see some of the weddings she plans--they sound so unique and perfect for each bride.
Obviously, a fake relationship is proposed to simplify and benefit both of their lives, but who can tell the heart how to feel? A fake relationship, with some prior sparks and chemistry, is one of my favorites and this one definitely delivered. I loved the swoon and sass with each interaction, especially as they tried to convince the town (and each other) that they were committed. Wade and Arden are strong and self confident characters, but have just a touch of marshmallow that really melt the heart. I loved the whole setting and premise and hope there's more coming in the "Accidentally in Love" series.
Content: steamy clean romance (the couple does have sex, but everything is behind closed doors); some innuendo; mild-moderate language
Wade Roberts, widower and the town's veterinarian, is happy with his single life. After losing his wife to cancer, he vows to never open up his heart again to that kind of pain. Unbeknownst to Wade, the elderly ladies in town have set up a "blog" on Facebook encouraging all the single women to seek out Wade in hopes of helping him move on to find love again. When he walks into his clinic only to be bombarded with a room full of "sick" animals and their gorgeous owners, he knows something is up. He receives baked goodies, texts, and love notes in the mail as well. In order to get the ladies off his back, he enlists the help of his "pal" and sister's best friend Arden.
Wade's request couldn't come at a better time for Arden. Her wedding/party planning business is suffering due to a runaway groom. In order to land a new, high profile client Arden agrees to Wade's plan of having a fake relationship. When the client voices concerns over Arden's business being the best fit for her daughter, Arden blurts out she's engaged too. One thing leads to another, then Wade gives Arden an engagement ring and the fake doesn't feel so fake anymore. At least not to her....
Fake relationship to fake engagement to fake real relationship to ??? I absolutely LOVED it! Humorous, snarky, heart wrenching, and swoon worthy all entwined into one awesome story. This is my favorite Jennifer Shirk novel! Although it's the second novel in the series, it can be read as a stand alone and you won't miss any of the nuances. I also loved how Arden incorporated the dogs from the shelter into a wedding and a Valentine fundraiser. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
I could not put this book down. What a fun story of a wedding planner, Arden Pearson, who does not plan to get married and a man who lost his wife and has no plans to ever get married again either. It just so happens that Wade Roberts' sister is Arden's best friend. The banter between Arden and Wade will keep you hooked right into the story. Add to that they decide to become fake boyfriend and girlfriend and that soon escalates into a fake engagement. I kept reading just to find out what was going to happen next. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review. Great story!
Catch Him if You Can (Accidentally Yours) by Jennifer Shirk. This is veterinary Wade Roberts and wedding planner Arden Pearson’s story.
I loved this story! I loved Wade and Arden’s characters. The banter between Wade and Arden and with the other characters had me laughing at times.
Wade and Arden both have issues from their past that has them not interested in relationships. Due to some crazy circumstances Wade and Arden end up in a fake relationship. But does it stay a fake relationship?
A fun, emotional, and heartwarming read.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This was lovely.
Here we have Wade and Arden. They’ve been sort of friends for years, since Arden’s best friend is Wade’s sister, so they’ve been in each other’s lives for years.
Now they each have their reasons to start pretending to date, no be ENGAGED, lol. As they pretend, though, they realize real feeling have been there for years.
This was super lovely and a fun read. I love these two, I so wanted them to find love. They each had serious things happen in their pasts, enough to make them avoid relationships for good. But they had so much to give, I just couldn’t see them waste away. :-(
It was great seeing them opening up, not just to each other, but to others. The entire town noticed they weren’t really happy.
This was a great read, looking forward to reading more in the series.
*Thank you to the author for providing a copy for which I’m giving my honest opinion*
This is my firsts book from Jennifer Shirk and definitely won't be my last!
A new favorite author!
The plot of the story was fantastic! I love "fake marriage" novels and this one didn't disappoint! I thought maybe it would be a kind of predictable plot, but it wasn't. It had great twists and unexpected things happening.
I totally fell for the characters. Wade and Arden are both nursing broken hearts, in a different way. Wade is a widow, and Arden wants to forget about her fiancé, both don't want to think about marriage anytime soon...
But fate has other ideas and when circumstances throw them together and they start a fake relationship, feelings and logic may change their ways of thinking and something else!
I totally reccomend these book to anyone who likes sweet, clean and light hearted romances! A delightful read! Can't wait to read more about other characters stories!
I received a gifted copy of this book from the author via Netgalley. This is my voluntary and unbiased review.
Wade is the town’s veterinarian and it’s been four years since his wife passed away from cancer. He has no interest in feeling that kind of pain again, so his dates are few and far between however the townspeople do not agree and he is growing weary of being set up everywhere he goes.
Arden is the town’s wedding planner who believes in happy ever after for everyone else besides her. She thought that she had found it once but when it didn’t work out in spectacular fashion she has made her business her sole focus.
Arden is Wade’s sister’s best friend so when he asks her to be his fake girlfriend to get the matchmakers off his back she ups the ante and now they are involved in a fake engagement to help her business but what happens when it begins to feel real?
The interactions between the two were full of heat and humor which only made the book more fun. It was quite clear to everyone around them that they belonged together but convincing them was not quite so easy. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I love reading books by Jennifer Shirk! She has a gift for writing books that are easy to settle in with. There is always a pull with her books that makes me want to keep reading and keep reading. . .
Wade and Arden have some zingy chemistry. The mutual attraction is there so when they decide to help each other out by faking a relationship, boy do those sparks start flying. I loved the fun banter between Wade and Arden. It was so easy to imagine them, like scenes from a movie. Arden falls quickly for Wade, even though she knows better because all Wade does is casual. Wade is a harder sell but I loved how everything worked out in the end. It was such a fun ride! I can't wait to see what is coming next from Jennifer Shirk!
A few extra loves: the name Arden, dreaming of the weddings she created (I'd love to see them in real life!), the pink bedroom.
Personally, I could have done without the swearing, but that is a definite personal preference. I also would have rather seen the characters take a less casual approach to sex but again, personal preference.
Content: Swearing. Intimate relations between the characters behind closed doors with no details but you know it happens. Innuendo.
- I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
-‘She sighed. “You know, I used to feel sorry for Miranda because she died young and missed out on so much in life. But I was wrong. Now, I can see you’re the one I should feel sorry for.” He stared at her. “Why me?” “Because when she died, you put yourself in that coffin with her and closed yourself off to any kind of future commitment with another woman. To a wonderful woman, I might add. Since Miranda’s death, I’ve never seen you so happy as these past few weeks with Arden. Your life seemed…full. But now you’ve closed yourself off to someone who loves you, and who I think you could love back. She pulled her coat on. About to the reach for the doorknob, she turned back one last time. “All I’m trying to say is that Miranda had no choice with her life. But you still have one.”‘-
Very sweet, romantic, cute, sexy story. A little more edge than what I’m used to (spoiler: they have sex but it’s only mentioned, not described in detail so PG alert). I liked it. It moved quickly and was engaging. I can definitely foresee who the next story will be about and I look forward to reading it too. Recommended.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and these are completely my thoughts and opinions without prejudice. I did not feel pressured to leave a positive review.
I loved this book! It's a sweet lighthearted fake relationship romance that left me with a big goofy smile on my face. It starts with the light freak out Wade has when he sees his waiting full of the town's single ladies and carries on as the town embraces the new relationship between Wade and Arden. While Wade has his reasons for avoiding relationships Arden definitely has him rethinking his position. Watching these two slowly fall for each other is a fun journey. I highly recommend this one.
Chase away the clouds and let the sunshine in. Shirk lit up my day with Catch Him If You Can. When Wade and Arden decide to say goodbye to love, they end saying hello to forever. A bit of small town matchmaking full of big city personality had me losing my head and finding my heart. Hot fun in the summertime.
The start of this book reminds me so much of Kelly Moran’s “Redwood Ridge” series, especially the third book, “New Tricks” where the eldest veterinarian brother whose wife died of cancer couldn’t move on, the backdrop of the series where the town’s matchmaking busybodies used social media to attract the female population toward the eligible bachelors. Frankly, the similarity didn’t occur to me when I read “Bargaining with the Boss” where the hero first appeared. But since he came into the spotlight, so were his being a single veterinarian and the focus of the town’s nosy matchmakers (thus the similarity that nudging my memory).
As the story progressed - where Wade and Arden shared the the third person POVs - “Catch Him If You Can” took an interesting turn that amused me with the characters’ back and forth. The bottom line here for me was Wade and Arden presented a pair of likable characters. And they had known each other for years, even admitted a bit of crush during adolescence years, which made the transition from friendly affection to love just a matter of timing.
There was the issue with one of their suitor that had potential to be some sort of catastrophe. I’m still not sure whether I was relief (or the opposite) that the author didn’t push the matter on this. In fact, considering the masquerade (sounds better than fake, eh :p) the overall story was rather trouble-free and plain sailing for the people involved. Oh there’s the (supposedly) unrequited feeling that culminated into heart-wrenching moments. But even that was handled without so much of drama between the MCs. “Catch Him If You Can” was a blend of lively, touching, and endearing patches in life without being over the top. It’s a tale that would put a smile on readers’ face.
Advanced copy of this book is kindly given by the author/publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book combines two of my favorite tropes...fauxmance and friends to lovers. I always enjoy a couple that delivers good snark and banter so Arden and Wade did not disappoint. This is light, fun, clean romance but honestly judging by the chemistry between the characters and the heat of their kisses I think I wanted it to be a little naughtier. It is obvious this isn't the first book in a series but it works great as a standalone.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
wade roberts is sick of everyone in cape harmony managing his love life. he had love before and when his wife died of cancer, he couldn't imagine letting himself fall for someone else like that. his sister's best friend, arden pearson, finds the whole thing slightly hilarious. but then she loves to needle wade every chance she gets.
when wade uses arden as an excuse as to why he can't go out with yet another eligible single lady, it's as if lightning has struck. he and arden can pretend to be dating. arden thinks the whole thing is preposterous, but when her ability to close a job depends on her being engaged, she changes her tune quickly.
pretty soon the fake engagement starts to feel real. and since they are stuck with each other through the duration of this fake business, they decide that being real while fake is the way to go. and then everything is too complicated by feelings they refuse to admit and truths that hurt to feel.
sorting themselves out will take some time, but these two are especially good together. there is some really sweet emotional moments in catch him if you can, but there are also plenty of laugh out loud funny ones too. i really enjoyed this latest cape harmony story, and hope we'll see elena's happily ever after sometime soon.
**catch him if you can will publish on august 13, 2018. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/entangled publishing (bliss) in exchange for my honest review.
