Thank you to Lisa for letting me take part in this blog tour. I loved the first two books in this series which are a little different. Its fresher with an edge..
This story follows buttoned up good girl Professor Talia Dalton. She is Willow and Bridgette's older sister and has always been very straight laced. Talia is a very private person and has always cared about how others see her and . I liked Talia. She cares a lot about her family and has always been close to them. She has a lot of insecurities which I easily identified with.
Derek Grant is one hell of a man. He has given up a hell of a lot to care for his father but he wouldn't have it any other way. Derek is an honest, hard working man. He is extremely caring and fiercely loyal to those that he loves. As always Melissa has written a mighty fine man that would have any girl weak at the knees. I also need a tuxedo mocha in my life. It sounds AMAZING.
Melissa had me instantly falling for these two. Their characters are so endearing and you just want to jump in and support them. Melissa's writing never fails to capture my heart.
t was really great to be back with the Daltons and I loved seeing Bohdi's mum again. I loved seeing more scenes with Piper and I am extremely excited for her book. I am also really hoping that Aurelia and Ben get their act together, pronto.
There's so much more to love than just romance. Derek has been caring for his father who has Alzheimer's, and being a male dancer/bartender allows him to do what needs to be done. Talia is straight laced and lives in a comfort zone. With Derek, she's able to get out of her comfort zone. She sees him for the man he is, not for how he earns money. It's everything else he does that makes him who he truly is, and what she loves him for. They bring life and color to each other's every day life, making a romance worth reading.
I love the story, and it brings a reality of life that many people live with day to day in caring for someone with Dementia or Alzheimer's. Love is the little things that make the hard times worth it all.
I was given an ARC of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I have always been a big fan of Melissa Foster’s books and this new book in the Sugar Lake series did not disappoint!!! I had read the first book in the series and I own but haven’t read the second book. I did not have any problem reading them out of order.
Talia is such a lucky woman! Derek is like a diamond in the rough. Guys who are that caring and charismatic are few and far between. I’m glad that he finally realized how his choice of job effects those that live him. I’m eager to read more about them and I hope that they get their own spin-off series that tells all about their adult daycare adventures!
I can’t wait to see the artwork in the companion booklet Loving Talia.
Love Like Ours by Melissa Foster, third in the series Sugar Lake.
This series follows the siblings of the Dalton family. I have read one other book in the series.
The author takes on the hard topic of dealing with a family member with Alzheimers, in this story it's the father of Derek, our male main character. We get a glimpse into what happens when you have to deal with this devastating disease, losing pieces of yourself over time. It brings to focus that love does not happen in a bubble, and harsh realities have to come into play if you want to create more than a fluff story.
So take a few to go on the journey with Talia and Derek. There is lighthearted fun and truly real moments of reflection. It will only pull on your heart strings a bit and didn't have me in tears, for which I am thankful.
Derek and Talia were syrupy sweet at times and steamy hot in others! I loved Derek to pieces and his relationship with his father warmed my heart. I love all of Talia's family and it was a nice to catch up with them in this story. I'm really anxiously waiting for Ben and Piper to find out more about them.
Love Like Ours is the book three in the Sugar Lake Series . It can definitely be read as a stand alone though.
Derek and Talia’s story is very sweet and emotional. While Derek is doing anything he can to take care of his father and finish school he meets Talia . The journey they have together is very sweet. The comedy that Talia’s family adds to the emotional roller coaster that the book takes you on. I will definately be reading the first two books in the near future.
I received the ARC from Netgalley for an honest review and these opinions are my own.
4.25⭐
Love Like Ours was an extremely enjoyable read. That had really likable characters in Talia and Derek and I was hooked from start to finish. Thanks to a storyline that was not only sweet, fun, and emotional. But very heartfelt and full of sparks. And I really enjoyed how Talia and Derek's relationship developed and grew as this story progressed. Plus, I adored Talia's family and how they embraced Derek and Jonah, who is suffering early onset Alzheimer's. Not to mention, the banter Talia's sisters traded with her. Which was enjoyable to read and added a lightness to this story to this story whenever things got a little too heavy. And as someone who hasn't read the whole series only certain books I can honestly say I never once felt like I was missing out. But I would, certainly go back and read the one I missed and I'm really looking forward to reading more from the Dalton siblings in the future. And I would happily recommend Love Like Ours to others.
Another amazing read by Melissa Foster. Talia is an introvert that was scarred by a college romance and closed herself off to the opposite sex. Then fate or maybe moms love potions get involved and as they say the rest is history. While talking on the phone with her sisters and mother Talia almost runs into Derek with her car! Luckily all is well and no one got hurt. Fast forward to later in the day and Derek hears Talias voice as she teaches a class and is drawn towards her. Throughout the book you learn of some of what Derek has had to do to care for his father who has Alzheimer’s. As someone who cares for a family member with Alzheimer’s its very difficult. Melissa did an amazing job showing how not only how it affects the person with it but the family’s as well. I laughed with the Dalton’s, love those girls! The depth of the characters is amazing and how the Dalton’s adopt the Grants is amazing. Love this book!
A sweet romance and a wonderful couple. This story deals with real issues of how dementia effects the whole family.
Talia Dalton knew always knew her sisters would drive her to distraction but never did she imagine that they would literally drive her straight into a mountain of a man. When straight-laced college-Professor Talia almost runs downs a student she believed her day couldn’t get any worse, but then she sees gorgeous Derek Grant sitting in the back of her class and even her fantasy world can’t cooperate. She hasn’t been able to stop thinking of the most beautiful eyes she has ever seen and now she knows that almost hitting him with her car is as close as she is ever going to get to Derek as teachers can’t date their students no matter how tempting.
Derek wandered into Talia’s class after recognizing the sultry voice of his vehicular attacker and stayed because her teaching is as mesmerizing as her voice. It has been a long time since Derek was so intrigued by someone and he realizes he has to come clean about not really being a student since Talia is insisting on keeping him at a distance.
Neither Talia nor Derek have time for the complication of a romance but both realize they have finally met someone worth making some time for. Talia is busy with helping to get ready for her sister’s wedding while teaching her classes as well as filling in for and taking care of BFF who is down and out after surgery.
And Derek’s life is focused on caring for his father, whose Alzheimer’s is getting worse. That is why Derek is finishing up his degree so that he and his friends can open up an adult day care center so they can help aging parents, like their own who need extra attention but aren’t ready for a nursing home. But taking care of his father is time consuming and doesn’t give him the free time for romance that a woman like Talia deserves.
I really enjoy a romance where it is not the H/H who do something stupid as the conflict of the story, but how they work together to fight against some outside force trying to drive a wedge between them. Here Derek and Talia are sweet together and they both believe strongly in family. Derek feels bad that their relationship needs to center on taking care of his father but Talia loves to see Derek interacting with his father and being part of that relationship.
The only thing that makes Talia uncomfortable is the fact that Derek is an exotic dancer. When Derek realized his father needed more care and supervision, he quit his day job as an accountant and picked up a night job as a bartender and entertainer. He knows that Talia isn’t thrilled about his dancing but the money is too good and allows him the time to take care of his father and finish his degree.
This is a sweet romance and brings to light some of the hardship of the caregivers of aging parents as well as some of the painful decisions which have to be made. I enjoyed the writing and have picked up a copy of the first story in the series The Real Thing, which is currently on sale for $1.99. This series focuses on the Dalton family.
Team Grant all the way!!!
Talia Dalton is a Professor and careful with her life and heart. She's been hurt in the past and doesn't trust easily. Derek Grant is working on his master's degree and works as a bartender and male dancer to give him the freedom he needs to care for his father. When Talia almost runs him over, they begin a path to love. Derek is the opposite of the types of men that Talia usually dates. He has long hair, scruff and wears jewelry. His intense blue eyes draw her in though. His sexy body doesn't help either.
I loved Talia and Derek. He will do whatever is necessary to care for his father. He has his priorities straight. Talia comes from a large and loving family, so she knows how important it is for Derek to be with his father. Their chemistry is hot and the sex scenes melt the pages. The deep subject matter of the story is heart touching as well.
I love Melissa Foster and can't wait for more of the Dalton siblings and their paths to love.
Really cute story! Melissa foster is a really great author. Talia and Derek’s story just made your heart melt! Great book thank you netgalley
I've read other Melissa Foster books, but this is my first in the Sugar Lake series. This book is an excellent example of her skill at writing real people and the connections that develop among them. It was a delight to immerse myself in Talia and Derek's story, including meeting their friends and families.
Talia is a cautious college professor who has recently watched two of her younger sisters find true love. She wants the same for herself but hasn't been able to let down her guard and connect with anyone. Derek is a good guy in a tough spot as the only child of his ill widowed father. His life is complicated, and his job is a bit outside Talia's strict comfort zone.
Absolutely loved it.
The third book in the Sugar Lake series. I had the pleasure of reading the first in the series and so was able to catch up with previous characters that were mention in the previous and first book. I have to honestly say i enjoyed this story more than the first in the series. Talia is the oldest child and is somewhat a prude after been hurt years ago by a cheating boyfriend. Along comes Derek who she nearly runs over with her car by accident. Derek is Talia's totally opposite. She's a professor and straight-laced as they come and he is a male dancer who quits his accounting job to take care of his father fulltime who has Alzheimer's. I love that this depicted that a dancer who was more than meets the eye that yes he was eye candy but he was so much more. Eventhough they romance went swiftly the way it was told and written made it believable. Review will be on goodreads and amazon.com
This was a cute book. I loved Talia and Derek's story. The way that Derek was with his dad made my heart melt. I love Melissa Foster. Her books just keep getting better.
I absolutely love Melissa Foster, she is an amazing romance author and Love Like Ours was amazing like every other book I have read.
This book is about Talia Dalton and Derek Grant, they meet in an extraordinary way and it seems they are a magnet to one another.
What I liked about this book in particular is that I could relate to it more, it wasn't just another romance book, it had depth in it too, with Derek caring for his father who had early onset Alzheimer's which a family member of my own had and has sadly passed from this awful thing. The caring, the moments of lucidity, the moments of confusion and anger. Melissa Foster did a lot of research when writing this and it showed because she was spot on. Obviously there was a happily ever after but there were twists and turns throughout.
A fantastic book I would highly recommend it
This is the 3rd book in this series of standalones, but I would suggest reading them all in order to get the full effect of the Dalton family. And once you've read them, you'll want to become a part of that family too! Wow, this was quite the intense read for me--a little heartbreaking, but also quite heartwarming as well. I loved Derek's character so much and how he dealt with his father's Alzheimers and I adored Talia, the "careful girl," because I can relate to her in so many ways! These characters are not one-dimensional -- so interesting and so well developed from the moment you're introduced to them. I loved that Derek wore his mother's ring and his father's bracelets; I loved that he drew pictures that I could see from the excellent and thorough descriptions (I'd love to see them!) and I absolutely loved how the author handled Jonah's illness so beautifully. And how can little Louie get any cuter/sweeter?! As you can tell, I love this series, but this one in particular really touched my heart. Can't wait to see what the next one will bring! I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for NetGalley.
Copy received for an honest review
It was great to dive back into the Sugar Lake series. This series has been sweet and fun, and Love Like Ours is no different.
Talia and Derek could not be more different, however their differences just make them all the more perfect for each other.
Derek is the chaos to Talia's control. Whilst she is quieter and reserved, he is a dancer, a bartender and puts himself out there.
I love the spark between them. No matter their differences, their attraction to each other cannot be denied.
I adore the banter between Talia and her family -even if at times I wanted to slap them on Talia's behalf. You can't help but love all of them, even when they annoy you. However it is Derek and his father that stole the show for me. I don't want to give anything away about them, but ... swoon!
And oh so emotional. I have never dealt with what Derek is coping with every day - thank goodness - however it gave a pretty good insight as to how it affects carers and family.
It was lovely watching our lovelies fall in love, when it is the last thing either of them was looking for. I also really liked that there is no OTT drama for drama's sake. Talia and Derek have their issues, but the deal with them like adults (which is refreshing in my stories!)
I loved that we got more from our lovelies in the previous two books, with some snippets of where their relationships are now.
I can't wait to see what Ms Foster brings us next.
Love Like Ours (Sugar Lake #3) by Melissa Foster.....Please tell me I can give this book more than 5 stars....Thanks to the publisher and #NetGalley for letting me preview this book. Talia and Derek's story hit so close to home for me... My husband and I were caretakers for my Aunt Thelma who had Alzheimer's. This book brought back so many memories...happy and sad and heartwarming. This book has all the feels the happy, funny, sad, heartfelt, with some steamy sex and a HEA. I can't wait for the next Sugar Lake book.
4.5 - "Team Grant all the way!" Stars!
Another absolutely outstanding read from Melissa Foster. Love Like Ours is book three in the Sugar Lake series, and can absolutely be read as a standalone.
"You’re hard to forget."
The buttoned up professor, letting life pass her by, and the male dancer with the weight of the world on his shoulders certainly produced a ‘read-it in one sitting’ story.
"The best thing that’s ever happened to me was nearly getting run over…"
I absolutely loved Derek and Talia together. Both of them have depths that you gradually see more of as they get to know each other. Derek encourages Tallie to step out of her comfort zone, and to try new things, while his attraction to Tallie encourages Derek to make more of an effort at having his own life and relationships alongside caring for his father rather, than putting everything on hold, something he has done albeit understandably without complaint for too long already.
He’d been living on deep breaths for the past few years… and he wondered if he’d ever get used to it…
Once again Melissa has written a couple and given them a story that was just such a joy to read, and I loved the Dalton family in general, and getting to know them more, while the relationship between Derek and Tallie blossomed, so much so I bought the first two books as soon as I had finished reading.
This was so right… she belonged in his arms…
As you would expect the weight of Derek’s responsibility in the care of his father has an impact in the way he can conduct his relationship with Tallie, and there is also the initial teacher/student situation which luckily doesn’t take up much of the story in relation to its resolution, but Tallie is a smitten-kitten once she has gotten over the mortification of nearly running him over, and everything from there on out moves at an organic and steady pace, Derek doesn’t want Tallie to have any regrets, as he is in it with her for the long haul.
"You are everything… Everything good, everything sweet, everything I want."
But, although for admirable reasons, it’s the Magic Mike part of Derek’s work that Tallie struggles with and eventually causes the confrontation between them, and not in a judgemental way per se, more in the fact of dealing with other women looking at her man, and how her family will react to it when she finally tells them…
If you have read this author before, you know that you are in for a really enjoyable reading experience, if you haven’t this (or to be honest from my experience, any other of her books) would be a great place to start your Melissa Foster reading marathon.
An amazing love story about sacrifice, friendship, and hope in the face of life's challenges. Complete with an amazingly caring and hot guy. The intensity between the two love interests is beautifully written and the handling of a sensitive subject affecting many families was great.
