This is book number six in the Montana Rescue Series and from what I gathered, this is the last book in the series. I think this is the third one I read, so you don't have to read them in order to get the story being told, but I'm thinking there would be some things that would make more sense if you did read them in order from the prequel through book six.
This book, Wait for Me, was a little over the edge for me. The whole book took place in less than a week and was pretty much full of sappy love scenes (nothing R rated) and full out running away from the bad guy. I don't like to give spoilers, so I will just say I found it a little hard to believe that everything that happened in this book could actually happen to a person and they all would survive.
I think, for me, this book seemed a bit unrealistic and a little too much romance. But I haven't tried to survive in the wilderness and I know the fight for survival is definitely strong, so I don't want to say it is impossible.
However, I will say, it does hold your attention as you are sure that you know who the bad guy is in the story, but then towards the end, you are completely surprised and then when you are left with a final surprise again. So there are some unexpected twist and turns in the mystery aspect of the book. The romance aspect is exactly as you suspected from about the first page on.
The other thing I want to add here is something that Susan said in her Author's Note that resonated with me: "I wanted to write a story about a woman who just didn't want to cause any more problems, didn't want to hurt anyone else, who just wanted everyone to be happy. The problem is, we can't please everyone, and when we try, we end up making a mess. The best thing we can do is live in truth, love others well, and trust in a God who loves us enough to fix our messes." And then for the hero he "turned into a guy who modelled the reckless love Christ has for us. Even when we break his heart, he just can't turn away from us....We need to remember this when we look at our mistakes, our messes, and our failures." Looking at the book from that perspective did change it a bit for me, because it is true. We can't please everyone and it's a mess if we try. And God is waiting to help us if we will rely on Him, which is where the main characters came to at the end of the book.
I have read some of Susan May Warren's other books and I would suggest if you are new to her writings that you start with the Christiansen family series. It's another series of six, plus the prequel, about a family in Deep Haven, MN. It has the usual romance for each child in the family, but it is full of lots of other things too. They are the best books I've read by her so far. Anyway, that's my plug there.
I received this book from Revell through NetGalley and was not required to write a positive review.
This was a great conclusion to the Montana Rescue series. It tied everything up but I’m sad to see it end. This series has some of the most memorable characters. Each one is unique and special but they have a shared passion to save and rescue people in need. Pete and Jess have been two of my favorites. They’re relatable and flawed and passionate. They learn from their mistakes. It was wonderful to finally have closure in their story. Ned, too, was a great character. I could see a series forming around his family.
The rescue/adventure was exciting. I could sense time running out and felt the urgency in their actions. This series has given me so much appreciation for those who put their own lives at risk in search and rescue operations. They’re amazing.
This book is best read as part of the series as the backstory and relationships are so rich. I would highly recommend this book and this entire series. Thank you to Revell for providing me with a complimentary e-copy of this book. I was not required to leave a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Montana Rescue series:
Book 1: Wild Montana Skies
Book 2: Rescue Me
Book 3: A Matter of Trust
Book 4: Troubled Waters
Book 5: Storm Front
Book 6: Wait For Me
This is the sixth book in the Montana Rescue series and wraps up the ongoing story of Pete and Jess. These two have been the will they/won’t they couple throughout the whole series. I couldn’t wait to read this book in hopes that we would see them finally overcome the obstacles and be together.
As much as this book focuses on Jess and Pete’s relationship there is so much more involved. Jess, Shae, and Ned are taken captive and are able to escape but get injured and end up lost in the wilderness. Can they find a way out before it is too late? Who is pursuing them and why? There are so many possibilities of who is after them - is it someone from Jess’s past, or from Shae’s past, or someone else completely? I found myself on the edge of my seat, trying not to bite my nails and hoping they would be found in time by the PEAK team. I cringed each time something bad happened. It felt like just as one danger ended another one began.
Pete and Felipe are forced together while the team searches the wilderness. While I was team Pete I was surprised at how my opinion of Felipe changed over the course of this story. As much as I wanted to keep disliking him I couldn’t. The more I got to know him I find myself liking him and wanting the best for him (just not with Jess).
I loved the inclusion of Ned and Shae’s romance. Both showed strength and determination to confront the challenges in front of them. Ned was the standout hero of the book in my eyes. He may be injured but the way he pressed on and cared for Shae captured my heart. I am pleased with the way the continuing story lines wrapped up. I will miss spending time with the PEAK team in Montana (but I will be able to reread all the books in order anytime I want).
Susan May Warren is one of those author that I am always following- watching and waiting for a new book to snag up. She has such a way of writing characters and situations that keep me invested and interested from beginning to end. I love the added elements of suspense and adventure that fill up my mind and keep me on the edge of my seat. Every book, every series by this author is so good!
I have been waiting for this book with anticipation and bit of dread too. It's the last book in this series which is awesome because all those loose ends were tied up nicely. I have been looking forward to the resolution I knew this book would finally bring for the characters I've been attaching myself to in every book. That felt really good. The dread comes from knowing this series is officially over and now I have to leave these friends behind. BUT. I know there will be something equally great coming because this author and I can't wait to see what it is!
I would highly recommend reading this series in order. You will be utterly lost if you don't. Each book revolves around multiple people who's stories build throughout each book progressively.
Content: peril, some violence, kissing, Christian Fiction

Full disclosure: This was my first foray into the Montana Rescue series, and to be blunt, I was not adequately prepared for the thrill ride that awaited me. Now I know what you’re thinking: “Taylor, the synopsis mentions: broken hearts, terrible fights, characters taken captive AND murderous intent how could you NOT be prepared?” And, honestly, all I can say to that is that I severely underestimated this book’s ability to make me care about these characters and their drama-filled plot lines. I pick up so many books across myriad genres that have action-packed summaries, but fail to deliver engaging stories within their pages. It’s almost like the more I see on the back of a book the more likely I’m to be let down by the lack of new details inside. Which is why I couldn’t be more thrilled to report that Warren’s story totally disproved this theory. Not only did this suspenseful contemporary have me hooked from the very first page, but, more importantly, it also introduced me to characters that I felt connected to on a very real level.
Now don’t get me wrong, coming into the final book of a six-deep series, isn’t necessarily ideal. While Warren gives consistent backstory details about these established characters, I did find myself struggling – initially -- to remember who was dating whom and how there stories interconnected. However, once I got the hang of things, I found myself simultaneously wanting to stop this current read in order to go back and devour the previous companion novels while also wanting to speed read through Wait For Me to see if these duos reached their “happily ever after eternity.”
And while the action from the search and rescue teams is definitely an excellent page-turning technique, what truly elevated this addictive installment were the glimpses into the characters struggles to find themselves. From Ned’s fear of being honest about his professional goals, and Shae’s struggle to take control of her past and stop being a victim to Jess choosing between a life she wants and a life dictated for her, these internal moments made the story feel raw, honest, and relatable. While I can’t imagine fleeing a bear, escaping captors, or smokejumping, I can imagine fighting doubt, fear, expectations, and a perpetual state of “what if.” I think this is where Warren and the underlying Christian message in her novel really shines. She points out time and again that even under extreme situations if we can live our truth, lead with our hearts, trust in God, and remember we’re not alone we can tackle any obstacle.
I enjoyed my time in Mercy Falls, Montana and can’t wait to visit again soon via the previous novels in this series. If you’re looking for an uplifting read, with restrained romances to cheer for, I’d recommend giving Wait For Me a shot.
This sixth book in the Montana Rescue series is off-the-charts exhilarating! Wait for Me has it all: danger, rescues, survival, self-forgiveness, and enough romance and true love to fill a ravine in the Montana mountains.
The overall theme of this story is realizing that love is worth the risk and not letting that love slip through your fingers because of pride, misunderstandings, miscommunication, and misplaced loyalties. While the story is basically about Jess and Pete, another couple shares the spotlight: Ned and Shae. All are fighting their own demons, vulnerabilities, and pasts filled with wrong turns and feelings of low self-worth. I love all the characters, but I have to say that Felipe ended up being one of my favorites.
Watching these characters evolve and grow in their relationships is a delight all the way through. The author expertly captures those heart-pounding moments of peril, revenge, physical and emotional suffering, and daring heroism. This book is jam packed with frightening action but with enough romantic moments and reflection to slow it down and keep it from becoming too much. The pacing is spot on.
The author is also good at developing antagonists and antagonistic forces that make your heart race with fear and anticipation as Jess, Ned, Shae, and the others fight against injuries, bad weather, and treacherous terrain in their desperate attempt to survive and outwit the menacing bad guys.
Hang on to your seat because book six in this Montana Rescue Series is a non-stop ride full of adventure, camaraderie, and true love.
Romance, clean; Christian faith elements; series, but can be read as a stand-alone read
Pete and Jess' story, along with a bit of Esme and Ben's, and of course, all the other characters from past novels, mentioned as part of the novel, was a rush of a read! Romance, suspense, mystery, faith, and heart, all coming together as the mysteries of the past resolved, and hearts were healed and futures made. Always a fun read, romance is high, and of course, the setting in the mountains and the home base was rush of a read. Perfect read as always! Always a fan! I am imagining the next series already with Ben's brothers starring! Thank you SMW for another great read! Always worth it, a can't put it down read as always!
I genuinely hate giving a Susan May Warren book less than five stars. She’s one of my favorite authors. But this book just wasn’t working for me.
I was very excited to get into this one and finally hear Pete and Jess’s full story. It was definitely exciting and suspenseful. However, it felt like the physical threat and actual plot took a backseat to Jess’s angst. I really tried to get on board with Jess and like her. I knew she’d grow and change by the end. But honestly she drove me crazy. I liked her more in last novels when I didn’t get to know her as well. She just kept agonizing and whining about things that seemed really simple to me. And she hurt everyone around her in the process. It got very old. I ended up actually feeling like both Pete and Felipe deserved much better. I didn’t feel like they were treated fairly at all, even in the end.
I also had issues with Ned and his hero complex and bad knee that would obviously prevent him from even finishing boot camp, let alone making it through BUDs. But that wasn’t the main point of the story.
Overall I thought the action/adventure/rescue plot was good, if a bit far fetched at times. I really enjoyed the light humor throughout. I could have used more of that. But I didn’t love the book because I unfortunately could not relate to or get on board with the characters. This series is probably my least favorite by Susan May Warren. But I’m still looking forward to seeing where she goes with her next one.
What a great finish to a great series! I have really enjoyed the entire series but could not wait to read about Pete and Jess!
I was not disappointed! This book is full of mystery, action and romance. I loved finally being able to hear more about Pete and Jess. I also enjoyed the side stories that have been mentioned throughout the series. I don't like the series ending but this book exceeded my expectations!
What a roller-coaster ride! The emotions, the tension, the action—it was up, down, around, and loop-the-loop all the way through this story. And Pete and Jess—ahhh! Heart in a tangle!
I’ve been anticipating this story so much that there was a very real possibility I had built it up beyond all realistic expectations. Given the author is Susan May Warren, I should have known better than to doubt. This was absolutely riveting from the first page to the last. It had the harrowing man vs nature suspense that I have loved so much about this series, with the added thrill of knowing that someone was out there after them. And remember those loop-the-loops I mentioned? Yeah, there were a few times I really did get thrown for a loop and had everything I thought I knew turned on its head.
As with all the other books in this series, there are two couples featured in this story, but as much as I loved seeing the resolution to Esme/Shae’s story, I can’t deny that Pete and Jess took centre stage for me. They’ve been through so much throughout the series, and I wasn’t sure how much more angst I could handle. There were miscommunications and refusals to communicate, wounded pride leading to stubbornness, and let’s not forget an ex-or-maybe-not fiancé! In almost any other case, that would be too much drama for me to handle, but the way it plays out here alongside the search and rescue was dynamite, especially with both Pete and Felipe (the aforementioned fiancé) part of the search—both honourable and determined, but emotional powder-kegs just waiting for a spark to set them off. And concern for Jess is a pretty big spark!
Underpinning it all is a message about reckless, undeserved love: “True love—unconditional love—declares you worthy just because it chooses you. And there’s nothing you can do about it.” It’s “the kind of love that forgave and showed up and chased and forgave again and kept showing up, loving her when she didn’t have the courage to love back.”
It’s an intense read, but oh-so-good on so many different levels.
Susan May Warren's final book in her Montana Rescue series is an action packed adventure from beginning to end. Finally, all the loose ends are tied, but Warren does keep you guessing on this resolution until the end. With twist, turns, suspense, and danger at every page, Warren delivers a non-stop tale that will keep you riveted until the last word.
In classic Warren style, she hallmarks a theme that strikes to the core throughout her spellbinding plots. In this book, she chose to focus on fear and the suffocating destruction it can wield on one's life. This is a topic I am still sorting through personally, but I was inspired through her characters and their journey to overcome its crippling grip.
I am thankful Warren chooses to deal with such relevant issues that touch us all in one way or another. Warren is an author you will not want to miss, for she will not only entertain you, but challenge your thinking and way of life.
I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and was under no obligation to post a review. All opinions in this review are my own.
This is book six in the Montana Rescue Series, however it is somewhat of a stand alone book. You do miss lots of history not only in the characters but even some of the plot, plus all the books are well written and good books. They all focus around a PEAK rescue team and I fell in love with the entire team. I have not read all the books in this series and had no trouble keeping up, I have read about half of them though, so I knew a lot of the history from those. I do wish I would have read them all and may go back and do just that.
This book will focus mainly on Jess and Pete. There is suspense, Drama, action, mystery, twist and turns, surprises, forgiveness and romance.
WORTH WAITING FOR!
Wait for Me (Montana Rescue #6) by Susan May Warren has been worth waiting for! This novel may be read as a stand-alone but should be read in chronological order to fully understand the complexity of characters as well as the complexity of the plot. Understanding the backstory will make this novel even more suspenseful and intense.
Pete Brooks wants to continue his work in Search and Rescue. More than that, he wants to reunite with EMT Jess Tagg and finally get her to marry him. After all, he has proposed to her three times! However, Pete’s heart is aching as he has discovered Jess has returned to her real life as Selene (her father was convicted of the largest Ponzi scheme and she testified against him and has been living under an assumed name)is engaged to her old boyfriend Felipe. Pete has some sliver of hope as Jess has told him “things aren’t as they seem.”
In this novel, Warren ties up many loose ends from the entire series. During one of the happiest days for a couple of the Peak Team family, a disagreement shakes things up causing Jess, Esme and her friend Ned to leave a Wedding Reception. That one incident triggers a deadly nightmare course of events that will take the reader into an adrenaline overload adventure! The three are run off the road, taken hostage, escape into the Montana mountain wildness, injured with no way to contact the outside world. They make it to a rustic cabin where things progressively get worse! Who can find them? There is one man with the skills. If ... he still cares enough about Jess to search for her.
Pete, Jess, Esme and Ned show what it means to have turned their back on God & live their lives their own way. They put their trust In themselves and not God. Throughout the series, each of the other PEAK Team Members and family have learned to trust God and grow in their faith. They have shown Pete, Jess, Esme and Ned by being living examples before them as well as telling them verbally about their faith. As the four of them face their mortality several times over, their growing faith is put to the test. They learn to rely on the God of GRACE and not themselves and to be thankful fo the ways He has blessed them.
I was provided an ARC of this book by Revell and NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.
“Wait for Me” is the sixth and final installment of the Montana Rescue series and readers have been craving to hear the final story of Pete and Jess. For fans of the series, we’ve waited with them and for them. But as we walk on the page with the characters, their journey is far from over.
If you’ve followed the series, you know this is a much-anticipated romance that has been building over the entire series. As with real life, some of us take longer to grow into who God designed us to be and accept who we are in His eyes.
Medic Jess Tagg, AKA socialite Seline Jessica Taggert, lives with regret. She walks on the page engaged to Felipe St. Augustine after telling Pete in “Troubled Waters” that she’d come back to him. Is she engaged or isn’t she? Sometimes she doesn’t even seem to know and neither does her fiancé.
Readers will also remember the scene teased in the Storm Front epilogue. I expected the story to start with that scene—I won’t give it away in case you haven’t read it, but the story starts a little before that, setting up the scene that’s pivotal to the plot.
While Storm Front brought me to tears, Wait for Me kept me on the edge of my seat. It was filled with high action and heartache.
How does one choose between the life laid out for them and the life they long to live? Who are they obligated to? How does someone who’s had disaster hunting them throughout their life ever feel redeemed? Like the hero? Like he can be there for the people he loves when they need him?
I loved the mysterious twist near the black moment. No spoiler here, but I love that the story isn’t predictable.
It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of this series and I’ll miss these characters. I hope they’ll make some cameo appearances in a future series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for an honest review. This review and the opinions expressed are my own.
Unputdownable, heart-pounding, action-packed romantic suspense novel revolving around not just one, but two fantastic love stories. On top of it all, it’s a Christian romance as well with the characters who were in mortal danger trusting God’s will at the same time that they try their hardest to rescue themselves.
Although I am coming into this series late (this is the first book I read and it’s the series ender), I didn’t feel lost in spite of the numerous named characters. It actually encouraged me to look up the previous five and add them to my to-be-read mountain of books.
Wait For Me had me turning page after page to find out how Pete and Jess will finally end up together and how the new romance between Shae and Ned develop, especially with Shae on the verge of death and with a killer still after her. It’s all very exciting and Ms. Warren’s writing is impeccable. She really takes the reader right in the middle of the book as if we’re witnessing the action as it happens.
I love that all the characters are capable, be they men or women. I love that Felipe is an upstanding guy, that he makes it hard for Jess to choose between him and Pete. Like I already said above, although they have faith in God, they don’t just wait to be rescued. Lastly, I love the family and community coming together to help each other out. Fantastic book. I highly recommend it.
Wait for Me, by Susan May Warren, is the final book in her Montana Rescue series. Pete Brooks and Jess Tagg meet up again at fellow teammates wedding reception. These two have not seen each other for months. The last time they were together Pete had proposed and Jess had put off answering him. Be ready for fireworks when they are yet again in the same room!
After an initial fight between Jess and Pete, Jess heads off with fellow teammates, Ned Marshall and Shae Johnson. Before you know it someone is attempting to run their vehicle off the road! Jess has enemies, due to her family's wealth; however, she had no idea anyone would follow her to Montana!
Watch as these three attempt to stay alive in the rugged outback of the mountains in Montana. You know the entire PEAK Team will be involved in their rescue. You will be surprised to learn that more than one individual is involved in attempting to eliminate these team members!
Wait for Me is the sixth and, sadly, last book in the Montana Rescue series. After being slightly disappointed with the last book, Storm Front, I am happy that this one lived up to my expectations and I found it to be a great read.
I loved finally reading Jess and Pete's love story. Even though their story has been building throughout the previous books, this one was definitely their story. I also enjoyed the secondary romance between Esme and Ned.
The mystery in this book was great. It had me questioning things I thought were true and I liked the danger scenes as well.
All in all, Wait for Me was a satisfying conclusion to the Montana Rescue series. I recommend the book.

This is my first book by Susan May Warren. Once again, I have dropped myself into a series without reading from book 1. Since this is book 6, I have missed A LOT! However, it is almost a new challenge for me to jump into a random series. And it shows Warren's writing skills that I was not completely lost throughout the entire book.
Wait For Me is Pete and Jess's story, but there is so much more going on. With 5 books ahead of this one, we have over a dozen characters popping up like the moles in that whac-a-mole game. Within a few chapters, I had a pretty good handle on who everyone was and just enough of their story from the previous books to make me curious but without taking away from Wait For Me. That's a difficult feat, and Warren handles it perfectly.
Visiting Montana has always been a dream of mine, and with this book, I felt like I was there. Warren detailed the landscape and characters with clarity but kept it from being overwhelming so you could focus on the plot of the story. Speaking of story, this one had me going from the very first page. You know right away that you're going to be dealing with some pretty broken up characters. Pete is a churning vortex of agony, and he reacts accordingly. And I'll admit, I wanted to shake some sense into Jess. It drove me crazy that she kept trying to make everyone happy. It's impossible to please everyone.
There were a lot of promises made, and most of them broken for one reason or another. A lot like in real life. Pete and Jess struggle through the twists and turns, hurting one another, blaming one another, and ultimately not being able to stop loving one another. There was so much reality in the characters' actions, not just Pete and Jess, but some of the others too. It was almost painful to read through their struggles. Without God, they were floundering, never realizing that all they had to do was ask for help. We never have to carry our burdens alone. And that is the message I took away from Wait For Me. God loves us, and He will help us if we will only ask.
While this is Christian Fiction, the message is not 'in your face' as some would call it. The notes and references to God are short and scattered thin. In fact, that would be my one change. If anything, I would have liked for God to be mentioned more. The way it was done worked for the story, however, so I can't complain much.
When it was all said and done, I closed the book with a nod of approval. It's a keeper. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not required to leave a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Outdoor action is always part of Susan Warren's books and Wait for Me is no exception! Pete is always ready to rescue someone in danger from a car submerged in the Meramec River in Missouri to kidnapped friends in the mountains of Montana! Selene Tess wants to make everyone happy but sometimes that is impossible. Tess and Pete are excellent protagonists as they fight to rescue each other when they are hurt and lost near Glacier National Park. All of the members of the PEAK team from other Montana Rescue books make appearances in Wait for Me! Pete who likes to be in control learns to let God be in control of his life. I highly recommend Wait for Me and the rest of the Montana Rescue series to anyone who enjoys contemporary action books. I received a complimentary e-book through NetGalley. This is my honest opinion.
Yay! We finally get to read Jess and Pete's story. The two have danced around their attraction so long and Pete has proposed a couple of time and Jess has even said "yes" but something always comes up. Jess Tagg is really Selene Jessica Taggert, a socialite from New York City, who put her father away in prison for a large Ponzi scheme (at his request to save her and her brother). To escape the publicity and paparazzo, she moved to Montana a few years ago to work as an EMT with the PEAK rescue team with the help of her friend, Ty Remington. That is when she and Pete met. Pete has tried to get her out of his mind but has failed. Likewise, Jess has tried to get over Pete. The two meet back up at the wedding reception for country music star, Ben King and his bride, Kacey King, helicopter pilot for the PEAK team. Their reunion did not go well so Jess caught a ride from the party with friend, Shae and her friend, Ned. Unfortunately, someone ran them off the road, kidnapped them and took them deep in the forest. Injured, the three managed to escape the truck carrying them. There is a wild adventure from this point as they try to survive in harsh elements with their injuries and pray that help arrives in time to save them. The team finally realize what has happened and set out to find the three and whoever is after them. That is a real mystery. Everyone has suspicions as to who is after them but are not sure.
This is a great addition to this awesome series. Read for a wild ride of suspense, danger, romance and finding faith in times of need.
I received an ARC of the book from Revell Publishing through NetGalley. The thoughts and opinions are mine only.
