This is a terrific engrossing story of two young women who grew up together and due to circumstances beyond their control ended up living together and then falling in love with one another. Because of the time in which they were living people thought it odd for two women to be living together without a husband or man in their life. The two women Molly and Erin, We're living and working on a very productive farm then made the decision to plan and move to Oregon. They live off the land and saved everything they could for their journey. Erin New she could pass for a mail. It was a very difficult time to live as a female pretending to be a Male , females were usually cheated out of money and had to deal with discrimination discrimination because of being female . As plans were getting finalized for the move, Molly very much wanted to have a child or children so they looked into the possibility of adoption. The journey they took to get their children was fascinating. Then along with all of their farm animals, provisions to start and rebuild their lives once they settled. The two women were able to pass as man and wife with their five children and they took off to meet a wagon train to go cross country. The journey from this point is absolutely fascinating to read as it was full of adventure and much hardship. This is where the genius of Mienel's storytelling really takes off because of the detail, historical relevance, and realistic happenstances that take place. When I finish this book the characters and the details stayed with me long after the last page because I wondered what would happen next in their lives. If you like a good adventure story combined with sweet and sometimes hot love story this is the book for you.

This was a great historical fiction read! The author did an amazing job of detailing the struggle of these two women as they moved away to get married in a time when it was forbidden.
