Adeline and Josh are desperate to be together. But they can't. She is the Queen now. And it would be unacceptable for her to get married to an American actor. And catholic, by the way.
Josh is cheeky and possessive. But in a hot way. It is imposible not lo love him. I was even wondering how refreshing he would be to the monarchy.
This book is full of secrets and betrayals. And in the middle of all, Adeline id forced to decide between duty and love.
I don't support monarchy. In my country they don't do anything vital. And they cost us a lot of money. Even of the members is in jail because he stole some money through his company.
But this book made me sigh anyway.
And the amazing final surprise? Totally unexpected. At least, for me.
An absolutely perfect continuation to this remarkable story. I'm not sure if there's much more to say than that.
With the ending of The Controversial Princess finishing on such a cliffhanger, I couldn't wait to read the conclusion of the Smoke & Mirrors Duet, and WOW! Just WOW! It had me totally hooked from the start.
Poor Adeline - she doesn't want to be Queen, but she really hasn't got any choice. Not only that, her relationship with Josh is put under so much pressure, and is becoming harder and harder to keep a secret.
Speaking of secrets... lots are revealed in this concluding book that are quite shocking. Who would've thought it?!
I loved this duet, and can't wait to get my next Jodi Ellen Malpas fix!
The twists and the turns, the forbidden romance, the suspense all continues in His True Queen. I couldn’t anticipate where Jodi would take this story. It picks up where The Controversial Princess left over and it was a lot. There was so much drama going on-the relationship, the Monarchy. It was all coming to a head and it was interesting to see who or what will come out on top. Adeline and Josh needed to be strong. They loved each other but would it be enough? I did like the relationship between the two. It was intense and strong and I believed that they would overcome anything. Jodi kept me intrigued to see how the story would play out. However the drama was just a little much because there was too many of it. But it made me want Adeline and Josh to beat it all. Overall, it was an alright read with some good parts.
All Hail The Queen!
Queen Jodi is reigning supreme this year! The drama. The angst. The complexity of the plot. I was on the edge of my seat the entire read! This duet is sheer and utter perfection!
Here’s what you need to know: The beginning is so emotional. It sets up the action of the book superbly. Adeline and Josh’s struggle is so poignant. The middle of the book will keep you guessing, wondering what on earth can happen next. It’s so delicious!! And the end…GAH, the end! Totally unexpected.
What I loved: For starters, the sexy, hot, and possessive alpha. That’s sort of my kryptonite and one of the main reasons why JEM is an auto-buy author. Her male leads are the men you dream about. So hardcore alpha and completely obsessed with the women they love.
“You’re the beginning and end of everything.”
Josh Jameson is exactly that. He puts the A in alpha-male.
Adeline is one of my all-time favorite characters. She’s fiercely independent, sassy, impulsive, but also caring and feels so much.
“Empathetic, zealous, and real.”
She’s such a paradox. A Queen who is submissive to no one, but her man. This dynamic was SO much fun to witness. I could not get enough.
The plot twists, secrets, and unconditional faith exhibited gave me so much pleasure. The writing is superb! The pace was spot on. Typically, longer romances feel overdone and repetitive which weighs down the plot and pace. That did not happen here. It’s an expertly crafted work of art. I had only 1 ticky little nit-picky issue. In the grand scheme of things, it didn’t affect how I felt about the book.
In case you’re wondering….I LOVED IT. Highly recommended!
What a fantastic conclusion to Josh and Adeline’s love story which follows on from the exciting end to ‘The Controversial Princess’. Adeline is now Queen Adeline and her new role comes with many rules which keep her away from Josh and yet they find some truly imaginative work arounds.
This book has angst, intrigue and drama with a healthy dose of steamy sex....just what the doctor ordered! A must read this year.

Duty or Love…
As the newly crowned Queen of England, Adeline Lockhart has an overwhelming amount of pressure on her shoulders and because of her title, sacrifices have to be made; because despite her position, Queen Adeline still answers to her people, to her advisers, and, in some ways, to the world as a whole, and with all eyes on her, tough choices have to be made and what that means for her personal life…for the man who owns her heart just might be her undoing.
Adeline’s forbidden romance with Josh Jamieson becomes even more complicated, making the possibility of their relationship continuing, let alone, lasting a significant point of contention, but Adeline’s saving grace is the fact that Josh refuses to lose the best thing that’s ever happened to him, which means that regardless of what stands in Josh’s way, he’ll work to prove his worth, his intelligence, his love to the only person that matters – His True Queen.
I have to say that I was surprised by the length of Her True Queen, and I worried that the conflicts would be drawn out and the drama overdone, but I should have never doubted Jodi Ellen Malpas’ storytelling because every word on every page matters; they drive the story forward and truly illustrate the position that Adeline and Josh find themselves in, as both individuals and as a couple, and while Josh’s first instinct is to protect Adeline, she more than proves that what she needs most from him is his love, which she’s had since the beginning of this duet.
I confess…sometimes the angst really did a number on my heart and my head; Adeline was doing everything in her power to meet the demands placed upon her while still finding time for herself, but her title seems to monopolize and manipulate anything that has to do with Adeline personally, which only further reinforces the idea that as Queen, she’s beholden to her people and must concentrate on her duties, seemingly losing any self-identity she once had.
There are so many secrets revealed and betrayals uncovered that it almost seems impossible for Adeline to endure, but while she seemed to buckle, at times, she more than epitomizes the true qualities of a queen, refusing to cower or kneel to anyone except the man who owns her heart.
Queen Adeline deserves her title, BUT she also deserves the man she wants to stand beside her, and even though these two ideas seem quite contradictory given her position and the fact that there are so many obstacles and sabotagers to overcome in order to achieve both outcomes, if anyone can do it, it’s Adeline and Josh…just be prepared for Jodi Ellen Malpas to put her hero and heroine as well as her readers through one twisty, angsty, extremely complicated journey to get to the end game, but let me tell you, it’s so worth it, even if I felt like my heart would never be whole again.

The Fairest of All Book Reviews
This was a great conclusion to the series. Once again their was great chemistry between the characters. There was also lots of twists and turns in the plot, however at times I felt it was a little drawn out and I was actually hoping for a different ending however I did still enjoyed reading it.
His True Queen was an incredible sequel to the first book written by Jodi Ellen Malpas. I was nervous to see what would happen to our favorite couple and I was not disappointed. The writing and characterization was flawless. I was truly invested in all the subplots and background characters. This book was released after the hoopla of the Royal Wedding which added more intrigue to it. Malpas did a brilliant job creating two characters who were great together but also interesting as individuals as well.
You do need to read the first book in this series as (I think) it ends in a cliffhanger. Well I’m one of the few who did not read book one!
It was hard to understand the connection between Adeline and Josh.
There were a few secrets that came out, a bit of a cat and mouse game with the characters and so many things that would not be possible in the “real world”.
It was also hard for me to understand this story in a British monarchy setting as I have watched lots of documentaries and read books of the current royals and the old (Henry VIII and Victoria).
If you’ve read book one and want a conclusion, then go for it!
I received this ebook from the publisher and NetGalley for an honest review.
This is the second book in a duet and the 1st ons must be read first.
Adeline is a great main character she gave me all the feels.
This diet totally wrung me out and hung me to dry. So good
His True Queen was an epic conclusion that saw some amazing plot twists happen! I loved this book and could not put it down.
You can truly feel the struggle that Adeline has with her new role in life. She knows that she must protect her family but the controversy that is occurring but doesn't want to give up her relationship with Josh.
I loved that Josh never gave up on his feelings for Adeline. What seems like a truly impossible position made him push even harder to see her.
This was an intense romance from start to finish but I still found myself laughing out loud at some of the things that happen between them and Adeline's family.
As always Jodie Ellen Malpas has delivered another amazing and unforgettable romance!
4.5 Stars!
In the midst of tragedy Princess Adeline Lockhart is torn between duty and love. She has fallen hopelessly in love with her American boy Josh Jameson, and now she feels she has to somehow disregard her own feelings, and put the well being of her country first. Her destiny has been written, and sacrifices must be made. As Queen all responsibilities have now fallen on her. She can no longer be rebellious and reckless. She must put her family and the British Monarchy first. This means her love story with Josh must come to an end. In order to be Queen she has to abandon her heart. The world is watching her every move, and as a Hollywood actor, they would rip Josh apart. She can’t live for her own selfish needs, and has to let him go before they ruin him.
Josh has found the woman of his dreams, and won’t so easily be cast aside. He’s determined to be with Adeline, and won’t give up. He refuses to walk away from the best thing that’s ever happened to him. He doesn’t care about Adeline’s title or stays. He just loves her and wants her any way he can have her.
This was an amazing conclusion to the Smoke & Mirrors duet. A beautiful, forbidden love story that rocks the British Monarchy. As Adeline tries to figure out who she can trust, advisers continue to try and keep them apart. Boundaries are blurred and their future together seems impossible. Will true love win the the end? I adored this royal romance full of emotion and passion! Just fantastic!
I just can't help it I just don't enjoy the way the author writes, the author draws things out far to much for my liking. The plot was rad and the characters we're OK but.. I just didn't love it..
His True Queen by Jodi Ellen Malpas is book Two in the Smoke and Mirrors series. This is the story of Princess Adeline Lockhart and Josh Jameson. I have not yet the previous book which did set me back some since this book continues their story from book one 'The Controversial Princess', so I would say to read the books in order to fully enjoy their story. My goal now is to read the first book since I enjoyed the ending of their story. I found it fairly easy to catch up but loved it so that I want to read their full story. We have a Royal subject Adeline in love with a American man named Josh. Josh too has feelings for Adeline but being from different world and watching them work toward their goal of love.
Enjoyed this book!
I didn’t love Josh Jameson in the first book of this duology, but man, oh man, I fell hard for him in the second book. Jodi Ellen Malpas has a way of making you love scoundrels and rogues that you know you shouldn’t love, but you just can’t help yourself. Her male leads are always book boyfriends, and Josh Jameson is no different.
This is a book to recommend to anyone who wishes for fame or notoriety. Adeline and Josh’s predicament is not an easy one. Malpas has a gift for creating over-the-top hurtles for her characters. But it just makes it all the more sweet when they work it all out.
You know how you read a Hot Romance Novel that leaves you a panting pile of need? Welcome to His True Queen, which demands--DEMNDS!--that you strap on your vibrator and get yourself a sweet release.
Or two.
Jodi Ellen Malpas picks up shortly after The Controversial Princess ends, with Adeline resigned to her fate as Queen of England and Josh relegated to a bittersweet memory. But do you really think that suits Josh Jameson?
Please.
Adeline has to face the smoke and mirrors not just in her life but in her family history. The monarchy, she comes to realize, plays a perilous shell game, always moving and concealing truths. Subterfuge takes precedence over substance. The more Adeline realizes this, the stronger the urge to do something about it. Secrets hidden for years come to light, and she has to decide how she will react and respond. Josh, meanwhile, is having none of this "we can't be together because I'm the Queen" stuff. He does not go gentle into that breakup.
And THANK GOODNESS FOR THAT because Josh Jameson will melt your unmentionables right off of you with just a raised eyebrow, so imagine what he can do when he starts with the dirty talk. He can rock that headboard straight into the next galaxy.
I loved how Jodi Ellen Malpas drew Adeline and Josh in this book. She doesn't just deliver the same characters from The Controversial Princess: she continues to develop them and give them added depth, particularly Adeline. She surprises herself as much as she surprises you with her strength and determination. My only complaint, and it feels almost selfish to say this, is that I wanted more of Josh. A relationship of his resurfaces in the last chapter, and I wanted to know more about that and how it came to pass.
But, dear readers, Josh Jameson is a delectable morsel of Hot Hero. Commanding and demanding, he makes you appreciate Jodi Ellen Malpas all the more. You will want to fall to your knees and pledge your servitude.
It's all smoke and mirrors.....
This book was just everything. I didn't expect to find myself so in love with this series and was pleasantly surprised at how dragged into it I became. Up until the very end of His True Queen, the hits were still coming. This book was full of endless drama, suspense and action. And just when you think you might have an inkling of how the story is going to go, BAM, another ball drops.
I adored Josh from early on. He made his intentions known and he was willing to fight for what he wanted, consequences be damned. There was never a moment in this book that I doubted his love for HIS queen. The book was full of so many rollercoaster rides for Adeline, and so much torment and grief. The solace and peace she found with Josh was much deserved and truly beautiful.
His True Queen was well written, highly engaging and I did not want to put it down or have the story end. A definite 5 star must read!!!
Its no secret I do not like cliffhangers, so when I saw that The Controversial Princess was book one of the duet, I decided to wait until book 2 was released. Also, no secret, I am super obsessed with all things royal including the most recent Royal Wedding between an American actress and a British royal! I mean, hello, every girl dreams of that!
Adeline is the sassy, rebellious princess who is out to break all the rules! She is just a scandal waiting to happen! Josh is a hollywood heartthrob who is more than happy to help Adeline create scandal. Adeline is a great heroine-smart, independent, and strong willed. However, when it comes to sex with Josh, she is willing to let him dominate. It kind of surprised me a bit, but JEM made it work! The obvious tension comes from the 'forbidden' relationship. Adeline's father, the King, has managed to chase off all 'unworthy' gentlemen. So, book 1=LOTS of angst and dirty, kinky sex.
His True Queen is book 2 and continues Adeline and Josh's love story. I appreciated that this focused a lot on their relationship. You get to see WHY they love each other-the normalcy each provides the other, their compatibility, etc. Adeline has to adapt to being the queen while still being true to herself. If anyone can handle it, its Adeline. JEM wrote a strong heroine in Adeline and this book only furthers that point. Like book 1, SO MUCH ANGST. I think that was my biggest struggle with the duet overall. But, I am, in general, and angst avoider. So, me being bothered by angst isn't anything new. Why did I pick up this duet you might ask? As much as I hate angst, I like JEM. So, if I'm gonna read angst, its gonna be by her.
Good follow up story from the first book. I could not figure out how Adeline would not have her new title ruin her life with Josh. Now, some of this plot line borders on the ridiculous, but this is fiction.
While I enjoy Ms. Malpas' works, they do have a tendency to be a little too lengthy and wordy. I think this could have been several thousand words less, but I just skimmed past the parts that were redundant and focused on the story.
