John lives with his Mother and is kept apart from others who live nearby. He wonders why and as the book unfolds we are taken on a journey full of secrets. Will not spoil the end but you are left wanting yo know what happens next. Thanks for the opportunity to read.

Sadly this one wasn't for me, seemed slow and took me a long time to get into it. I couldn't gel with any of the characters which is a must for me.
The story was well written and rich in detail, however, the ending is abrupt and left me feeling unsatisfied.

I found the book to be an enjoyable read. The storyline itself is intriguing. It was rich in description which really made the story come alive. I found myself hooked from the start. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series.
If you enjoy historical fiction with a thrilling mystery thrown in, then this book needs to be on your "must read" list.

I've found it hard to review this one. I think my biggest issue, before i get onto the review, is that this doesn't work as a serialised book. The ending is very abrupt, and nothing feels finished. I almost feel like if i was sat with a hefty tome in front of me, i would respect the story more than i did with this small instalment.

The story itself is intriguing to say the least. It meanders on, told from the perspective of a naive young boy. As the story slowly unfolds, we're left wondering if the boys perspective is actually twisted by his naivety, so that the story were being told isn't actually the correct on.

I feel like i can can leave a fuller, more respectful review once i have finished the tale in its entirety, as this feels like leaving a review for just a few chapters. Lets see what the rest of the book brings.

A great mix of whodunnit and traditional Victorian fiction.
I loved the wonderful style of writing, the descriptions and how the plot kept you hooked till the end.
This story could have been told by Dickens or Collins and it was a wonderful literary trip.
Recommended.
