Loretta Rogers is a new to me author, but I will read more of her works. When a story becomes visual you can't help but become engrossed in it. This is a very visual and engaging story. You want to see how thing go for Jesse and Rebecca.
When Comes Forever
by Loretta C. Rogers
A superb book! Definite buy buy buy buy buy time! While I am not a fan of this genre of the western historical romance books, this one was superb! It has such depth and life. I was totally enthralled by the book from the beginning to the end and managed to read it in less than a day. I must say this is a book that you will remember. Each layer was absolutely engrossing. I love the characters as well as the way the story unfolded. Each part of life and each part of the totally time line was wonderfully done. This is a new author for me but I will be looking for her more and more! So if you want a superb western historical that spans so many layers, buy this book and just get ready to be enthralled by the writing. I was given this ARC via NetGalley. All opinions written here are my own and one willingly. Buy and enjoy! Regards Anna
I was grateful to receive a free copy of When Comes Forever. This was a quick easy read. I enjoyed reading about Rebecca and how her youth and inexperience contributed to her meeting the wrong guy, getting married, and having a baby. Jesse was a great character. Even though he had no intention of taking on Rebecca and her baby after her husband died, Jesse was always there for her. My only regret is Jesse's mom never got her happy ending. I would definitely recommend this book to friends and family.
I love western romance but I felt a bit cheated here. The plot is fantastic and it has so much potential but I just did not emotionally connect with the main characters. Jesse Starr is the son of a Kiowa princess and an English lord. Although he was raised by his father in England he was kidnapped and forced into slavery. When he escapes he goes in search of his mother Who is living with her tribe in Oklahoma. Before he reaches the reservation he finds Rebecca Throckmorton, heavily pregnant but abandoned in a remote cabin. Together the journey to find his mother then on to England to seek revenge against his half brother. I did not dislike the book but felt it could have been so much better.
What a Marvelous work by Loretta !!!! In this book " When Comes Forever " she has given us a good story ... glimpses of both the American western frontier & Regency England... she has blended the culture, socio-economic differences, lifestyles beautifully within the story line... It was a well written story, well developed plot , fast paced not a moment of boredom... normally with the description sometimes the link of reading breaks but in this book even the descriptions, thoughts ,details were captivating...i finished the book in one sitting couldn't keep it down...some scenes were so well described you literally visualize them...
This story begins in the Western Frontier Oklahoma territory...Rebecca Throckmorton is the daughter of a banker from Chicago , she made the mistake of eloping with a con man leaving her luxurious ,good life behind... her family disowns her ... Jesse Starr, son of a Kiowa princess and an English lord was played false by his half brother & shanghaied-sold as a slave ...He is on his way to England to avenge his father’s death at the hands of the half-brother. But before that he determines to find the mother he never knew....On his way he comes across Rebecca who is pregnant , in need of help , abandoned in a remote cabin deep in Oklahoma territory...He saves her by taking her along with him...
The journey of Jesse & Rebecca across American to England is full of adventure , thrills, lots of sizzling chemistry, Romance , sex... The characters are well defined & the feelings , emotions, love , attraction which grows slowly , gradually, between Rebecca & Jesse is heart touching ...The hardships, struggles , troubles, passion between the two well presented by the author... how they overcome all the circumstances & despite all problems, upheavel succeed in there relationships & better living ....
Even the secondary characters were endearing & well in synch with the story ...Especially Jesse 's mother's character Leotie, with her background of an Indian ,having never seen life beyond the wilds , her willingness to create a new life, love for her son to accept , make changes in her life is quite heart warming ... Jesse 's character was adorable, humble, honest ,brave, big hearted... Rebecca was a bit immature ... over time she became, bold, strong, sensible, independent ....
It was a very engrossing saga which gives us a taste of two worlds within a story... I would highly Recommend this book ... You will miss out on a excellent piece of writing if you miss reading this book ... Good job done Loretta ...
When I am given an ARC to read and review I always promise to give a fair and honest review. I don't usually read books set in the old American west but something about the description for this book pulled me in. Gosh, I am so glad it did. Wonderful writing, characters and story! Really good read.
