This was a definite DNF – although I did try to read it all, but there’s only so much one’s good will can do…

While the concept was interesting and had me completely intrigued to read this story, the plot itself – as well as the characters – just didn’t do it for me. I kid you not, I was like this the whole time I was trying to turn the pages: Whaaaaaaat?????

This. Was. Weird! And I say this first as it was also the first thing that came out of my mouth when I started reading the book. They had only just met, and it was instantly “Let me bed you, my Fair Lady”! And then, BOOM! They go back to cordial politeness! What. The. Fuck.

I should also mention, I’m kind of against romance blooming just because it serves the plot. Two characters should fall in love because they’re soulmates or they click, or whatever. But noooo, these two HAD to be together, because of the legend that Finn told!

What kind of person says “OK, I’ll go find the love of my life!” based on stories?!?! It doesn’t make sense – unless you’re a ten-year-old or so, I suppose…

And then, the moment they meet, it’s like “Yaaaay, I just met you, let’s get married~” – Uuuuhh, let’s NOT!

Seriously, this was not romantic at all! He wanted her just because it was convenient, because he knew that they could sleep with each other without casualties – what a load of…. you know what! Where’s the romance? The heat?!?!

As you can see, my inner monologues had filled my head with negativity and I just couldn’t get into any more of this. Hopefully it’s someone else’s cup of tea, but it sure ain’t mine…

I was very intrigued by the blurb and plot line but I was not enthralled with the story. It was just ok.

The blurb of this book doesn't do the book justice. Whereas the blurb focuses on the opposites of Finn (fire) and Lyssa (ice), the actual story is much more than only a romance. And although the start of the book is mostly about Finn and Lyssa getting to know another, the rest of the book is about how in Finn's absence his throne is overtaken by a traitor and how Finn, Lyssa and some loyal subjects are going to regain the kingdom. So, yeah it is a wonderful romance, but Lyssa is a pretty bad-ass herself and together they fight for their kingdom.
So, if you want romance, action, betrayal, suspense and humour, then take a dive into The Crystal Flame. Three out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
