Another brilliant read - am loving the character development through the books. In this book, a devastating fire leaves a mum and toddler dead and an older son fighting for his life. The husband and father is no where to be found and his recent behaviour has the investigating team suspicious. There are lots of twists and turns in this book and I kept switching theories but was wrong on so many counts.

A plot that kept me guessing to the end!
My one quibble would be the cover questions are misleading...
Well written with modern webpage effects with comments and interview transcripts adding to the story, in a clever examination of life in 21st century criminal investigations!
Detective characters are developing over the series of books and bode well for more in the future!

Absolutely loved everything about this book couldn’t recommend it enough. Loved the writing style. I am going to download the first 2 in this series for holiday. Found the way it ended so refreshing to actually have a proper conclusion to the story.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Penguin Books UK for an advance copy of No Way Out, the third novel to feature Oxford based DI Adam Fawley.

When a house goes up in flames firefighters manage to rescue a 10 year old boy and find his 3 year old brother dead in his bed. Fawley and the team have more questions than answers because arson is immediately suspected and there is no sign of the parents.

I thoroughly enjoyed No Way Out which is a compulsive read with plenty of twists and turns, most of which come as a complete surprise. The format of shifting timelines and points of view is not one I usually enjoy but it is so well done it kept me reading throughout, hooked on all of them. The timeline switches between the present day investigation and a countdown of life in the victims' house from 317 days before the fire. What happens in the house is fascinating and as the detectives know nothing about it it provides the reader with a counterpoint to their speculation and theories and proves what a mistake jumping to conclusions can be. I really like the contrast as it makes for an interesting read. The shifting point of view is equally absorbing. Fawley's narrative is in the first person and everything else in the third. It gives a wider perspective on the investigation as it encompasses other members of team, transcripts of phone interviews and on-line press reports, complete with very realistic reader comments. Together they build a picture of the investigation and the wider reactions to it. I found it natural, realistic and absorbing. The plot itself is clever and well done, just as you think you have a good idea of what happened Ms Hunter throws in another curve ball and you're left doubting your scenario and you can't help trying to formulate another with the new information. It makes for great reading.

Ms Hunter does not neglect her characters either. Many of the detectives have minor dramas in their lives, making them seem very human but she saves the big one for Fawley. His wife has left him for some thinking time and he's not coping as his house, appearance and concentration are a mess. Fortunately it doesn't appear to affect his ability to work the case.

No Way Out is another great addition to a series which is becoming a must read for me so I have no hesitation in recommending it.

it is always a treat to read and review a book by this author and this one does not disappoint. Ms Hunter is steadily becoming one of my favourite authors.

After a house fire killing one child and putting another in hospital with life threatening injuries after seemingly being left home alone it is down to DCI Fawley and his team to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire. as ever with these books what appears as a clear cut case is never the reality.

many thanks to netgalley and the publishers for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I really think Cara Hunters books just get better and better. This installment of DI Fawley and his team perfectly demonstrates the careful thorough police work needed to get to the bottom of a relatively unusual case. I liked the further detail on individual team members and really honestly couldn't put this down until I'd finished. I wish I had read slower really, but thankfully Cara seems to write fairly quickly, so hopefully not that long until the next book! One of the better crime novels that I've read so far this year.

The crime genre is tightly packed with budding authors eager to display their writing skills as they start a new story with new characters and usually a slightly flawed lead detective. The hope is that if the story and main players are welcomed by an eager reading audience then further books will follow as a series is born. The problem is that there are now far too many so called authors plying their trade with the result that the writing is often bland and stereotypical in its delivery.

No way out is the third in a series featuring DI Adam Fawley and his intrepid band of warriors; Gislington , Quinn, Somer and Everett. A fire has occurred in a residential property, one child dead and one child clinging to life. It would appear that the parents are not in residence, and so the search is on to find them, the hope being that they can provide clues and answers to this appalling crime. Due to personal circumstances DI Fawley has stepped down as lead detective and has entrusted the investigation to her colleague Gis promoted as acting DS on this occasion..

This is your average crime thriller, one of many competing for attention in a crowded diluted market. The usual suspects are present; an overworked DI with personal problems, bright- eyed junior detectives eager to prove their worth and a rather odd misguided sense of humour...We are investigating the death by burning of children and so our young band of police officers are working 24/7 it could be said they are on fire....not so sure I welcome this attempt at humour. Reading an average thriller only highlights the great difference between aspiring authors and established heavyweights such as Ian Rankin or Robert Galbraith. I have recently read, indeed consumed with vigour, the 3 Cormoran Strike novels which are simply outstanding and only serves to reinforce my opinion that good writing is the preserve of a few and only a minority ever attain this status. Many thanks to the good people at netgalley for a gratis copy in exchange for an honest review and that it what I have written.

Really loved this book by Cara Hunter, this is the 3rd I've read now and they never disappoint! I love the style of writing Cara uses especially showing us the Twitter comments, other social media, reports and telephone conversations.

DI Adam Fawley is back to investigate another case, I felt there was more about the main characters real lives this time which is great as it helps you build up an image in your mind and also gave a few laughs along the way. I learned about the twisted web of Michael and Sam's lives leading up to and straight after the fire in their home. Who would set a fire while two young innocent children slept? Read the book to find out, you won't be disappointed!

This is the 3rd book in what is definitely my new favourite police procedural series and I can honestly say that Cara Hunter is an author I would happily read WITHOUT reading the blurb because whatever she's writing I now know after 3 books that I absolutely LOVE her writing style and her storylines.

No Way Out is set approximately 6-8 months after In The Dark and features the same wonderful team of Adam Fawley, Gislingham (Gis), Quinn, Somer and Everett.  DI Fawley is going through a very difficult personal situation and his mind really isn't on the job so when a house fire kills a toddler and his 10 year old brother is pulled from the fire fighting for his life Fawley hands the case over to Gis to run as Acting DS.

The change in leadership enables to reader to get to know the rest of the team in more detail which I particularly enjoyed.  Even though DI Fawley has taken a back seat during this case, he is still very much part of the investigation and his wonderful wit and observations are evident throughout.

Once again the author has used social media, news articles and comments from the public to give the story the additional depth and allows the reader to see several sides of the story from different perspectives.

To sum this up; another brilliant story line with twists and red herrings featuring a really solid cast of characters and a shocking crime to solve.

First of all thank you to Penguin Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this 3rd book in the D I Fawley series. An absolutely fantastic read although heart breaking in places. The story moves along at a fast pace and the story develops between the present and the past. It starts off with a house fire and the investigation into that and we are led up to this event through trips back into the past which build the picture up to this eventual tragedy. The characters are easily likeable and you are drawn into their lives. An excellent book, totally gripping and I have no hesitation in recommending it. Well done Cara Hunter on another sure fire winner.

This is the 2nd book of cara’s That I’ve read and it was just as good as the first. Loved the way that the characters developed throughout and the twists kept me hooked until the end

With thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the book in exchange for an honest review.
This is the third book by Cara Hunter featuring Fawley and his team, this time they are investigating a house fire where there are deaths, including children. The book looks back at the events before the fire and afterwards and at the effect of family secrets going back years.
A very clever way of telling the story looking back at episodes that happened in the past and how it affects the future.
Highly recommended.

Cara Hunter does it again - book three and the best yet.
The book of 2019.
This is so different to anything I have read before and totally different to the previous two books. The social media element is still there (though not as prominent as book one).
This is a different read starting with a fire in a house that will then keep you guessing right till the end. I have normally figured a book out by about half way though but this one really will have you baffled and switching theories throughout.
Not going to say more as it will spoil it but as with every book Cara has written this is a must read

Another great book in this series featuring DI Adam Fawley. It was slightly different to the other two but still plenty of twists and turns that we have come to expect from Cara’s writing. I thought I knew what was happening more than once but I was wrong and didn’t guess the ending after all. A great book i couldn’t put down and I I would highly recommend to read.

I absolutely loved Cara Hunter’s previous two novels, so when I spotted the third one on NetGalley it took approximately a nanosecond to bang in a request, and I was delighted to have it accepted.

I’m rapidly realising that much as I enjoy a nice twisty turny etc psychological thriller (well, some of them), there’s really nothing I like better than a good old investigation. (I was raised on Golden Age detective stories, after all.) Police, private detective or amateur, I don’t mind - the likes of Robert Galbraith, Jane Casey and now Cara Hunter are right up my street or indeed dark alley.

No Way Out follows Oxford DI Adam Fawley and his team as they investigate a particularly disturbing case - a horrific house fire in which two young children were trapped. It’s clearly arson, but who would do such a thing, and why? And furthermore, where are the children’s parents?

As ever, it’s a well constructed and intriguing plot with plenty of surprises - I didn’t guess the outcome ahead of time. The police characters are very well drawn and believable and the excerpts throughout not only from interviews but media reports and indeed the comments below them adds another dimension. DI Fawley has significant personal issues of his own to contend with (what he has experienced in his family life is dreadful) but never seems to allow it to impact on his professionalism.

Another excellent story from Cara Hunter and I can’t wait for the next one!

The next Adam Fawley novel from Cara Hunter is pacy and twisted, an addictive read with a strong emotional core featuring as it does a family in peril.

This series is growing in stature with each passing tale- No Way Out ups the ante, moving along the lives of its main protagonists whilst they investigate a heart wrenching case which just gets murkier with each new clue.

I like the interim news articles and emails, as well as the mixture of views which allows the reader to see the case from many angles including that of victim. It makes for a rich, well layered crime novel with a good dose of unpredictability.

Overall this is a series to watch. I’ll definitely be sticking with it, intriguing characters and clever plotting.

Thank you so much to Cara Hunter and Penguin Books Uk for the opportunity to read and review this book. I was totally captivated by this book, so much that little else got done in the 24 hours that I read it over. Based around family secrets, mental health and lies,No Way Home will keep you on the edge till the last page. Cara Hunter delivers again and is becoming one of my favourite authors. Do not miss this one.

Hunter's books never disappoint. Complex plot, twisted characters and just the right amount of humour combine to make this a book that is difficult to put down.
(This advance copy has a lot of typos and layout issues, particularly in the transcripts and newspaper reports that made it difficult to follow at times)

An enjoyable read with good pace and twists and turns and certainly good enough that you don't want to put it down! Would definitely recommend.

That said, Cara Hunter says that she wants her readers to see and feel her detective thrillers as like the 'Broadchurch' TV series, very 'live' as if you're there amongst the characters. She does well, with life Tweet and other feeds interwoven in the narrative, allowing the reader to feel it's all happening at the time and also getting a feel of the very unpleasant but all-too-common types of comment and gossip surrounding the case, but I feel takes it a bit too far, with these sometimes intruding and some irrelevant or unnecessary.

Unfortunately too, she is not able to capture the brilliant characterisations of the likes of David Tenant and Olivia Colman and, while a novel can actually convey more depth of character than the screen, I'd really like to find myself having more empathy with her chief detectives and other main protagonists.. I read the first two books in the series before reading this third one, so as to give myself a good grounding in the characters and their back-history, but could not find myself at the end of each wanting to read the next to find out what was happening with the characters, as I have with other series. There's a lot of the rather dour, depressing attitudes and exchanges amongst the team members - including 'hero' DI Fawley, which may be realistic - I don't know - but doesn't make them especially likeable, and I find lack of depth in their characterisation and relationships.

Still, for those not too bothered about characterisation etc, there's a lot of good stuff here, a good story and, even after I've been a bit negative, I'll almost certainly read the rest of the DI Fawley books if/when more are written.

#NoWayOut #NetGalley Wow - Another fabulous book from Cara Hunter in the DI Fawley crime series. Excellent writing, I was unable to put this down and read it in one day. Plenty of twists and turns as with the previous books in the series and an ending that wasn't expected until the final few chapters. Di Fawley has a great team and their characters are now well established and the dynamics of the team add to the enjoyment of the book. I like the way that there are excerpts from interviews and telephone calls that get the message over much quicker than a lengthy prose explanation would. I found that the flashbacks to the days prior to fire were really helpful to the story and didn't annoy me like flashbacks can sometimes do. I look forward to many more books in this series
