Having read Cara Hunter's previous books I coudn't wait to read No Way Out.
When the Esmond family home goes on fire in Oxford and very sadly there are two children in the house at the time, a toddler who unfortunately dies in the fire and his older brother Zachary who is fighting for his life in ICU. Their parents Samantha and Michael were not at home at the time of the fire and their mother is missing and their father can't be reached as he is out of town. The fire appears to be started deliberately so DI Fawley and team are on the case.
A very compelling read with so many suspects that it will keep you guessing the whole way through. I absolutely loved No Way Out and highly recommend it and even though it can be read as a standalone I feel I enjoyed it much more than I would have if I hadn't read the previous two books in the series first.
Thank you to Bookouture, Cara Hunter and NetGalley for the arc of No Way Out my review is honest and unbiased in any way.
So yet again the wonderfully talented Cara Hunter writes another brilliant thriller in the DI Adam Fawley series and this is a series that I just can’t fault. When you pick up a book and it grips you from page one you know you are on to a winner and each of the books in this series have been just that ... 100% winners. We are reunited with the past members of the team and Adam Fawley is rather quieter in this book as he tries to deal with his ongoing personal problems, Cara Hunter is a master at characterisation and really brings the members of the team to life and I think for me this is what makes her books so special well that and the fact I never can guess the damn ending !! So what more can I say than this book is amazing, well written, fabulous conclusion and a massive 5 Star read that shouldn’t be missed.
My thanks to NetGalley and Penguin books UK for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
An excellent detective thriller. I enjoyed the plotting and pace of it and recommend it for readers of this genre.
This, the 3rd in the Adam Fawley series finds the team investigating a house fire that has left a family devastated. Zachary (3 years old) is dead, Matty (10 years old) is critical in hospital and the hunt is on for their parents.
As in her previous books in this series, Ms Hunter peppers documentation relevant to the case (such as fire reports, police interviews and news reports) throughout her prose. This serves to draw the reader in and adds an authenticity to her writing.
No Way Out is a solid police procedural with plenty of red herrings thrown in to keep you on your toes, thanks to Netgalley for providing an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
DI Fawley is back!
Its the New Year and a fire breaks out. Two young children are brought out but one is dead and the other fighting for his life but where are the parents? This is Fawley's worst nightmare and its about to get a lot worse.
This is a fast moving book with many twists and turns right to the end. Brilliant.
Cara Hunter's third DI Fawley novel is well up to the standard of her previous two (Close to Home and In the Dark). A fatal house fire, a missing husband and gradually developing tension, told partly in flashback, make this a compelling read. Her attention to detail on the fire aspects is impressive. With good characters, a twisty plot and some good, solid detection this is a must-read.
This is the third in the D I Fawley series written by Cara Hunter and I loved the previous books. ‘No Way Out’, is even better and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a dark, evil portrayal of what envy, jealousy and hatred can lead to.
It’d just after New Year and a fierce fire has destroyed a family house in a quiet, suburban street. The two children are taken from the house, one dead and one fighting for his life. The parents seem to have vanished but, on the surface, they would not be the sort of people to leave their children alone at night.
The whole team of detective characters has been put together with thought and works exceptionally well. As they unravel the story, they begin to discover just how destructive the situation relating to the fire appears. The twists and turns left me suspicious of everyone.
This is exceptional writing and plot development. I loved it. Thank you NetGalley, Penguin Books (UK) Viking and Cara Hunter for my ARC in return for my honest review.
Excellent read, highly recommended.
This is a fast paced thriller starting with a family home that has been burnt down killing a mum and two young sons, Fawley and his team investigate what has caused the fire and to track down the father who has disappeared. I didn't find this book as riveting as Cara's previous books although I still quite enjoyed it ...I will give this book a 3* rating.
Another brilliant read from this author! Its Christmas time when the call comes in about a fatal fire in which two children are killed, what at first appears to be a tragic accident, soon becomes something so much more sinister.. Their mother is missing and their father doesn't answer his phone.... I really enjoyed all the twists and turns in this gripping thriller and cant wait for the next installment. Thanks to netgalley for an ARC of this book in return for my honest opinion.
This is a tragic story, really. The police are called out to a fire in which two young boys have died. No-one is sure where their parents are. To add to the sorrow, DI Fawley’s wife has left him. She would lie, to adopt but he can’t bear to following the death of their son. The characters of Gidlingham and Quinn are moved forwards slightly and Somers is let at a bit of a crossroads, As the story moves on, there are flashbacks to the family before the fire, They are not a happy family. When the truth is finally revealed, it does nothing to lift the sorrow. I won’t give away what Fawley’s wife comes to tell him at the end of book.
This was a good story but didn’t have the same elements of surprise as previous novels. I did enjoy following Fawley’s development. This continues to be a good series to read.
Like books one and two this third offering in the DI Adam Fawley series had me hooked from the very beginning.
The story moves along at quite a pace and as the investigation into a tragic house fire which leaves one child and his mother dead, another in a critical condition, the father seems to have vanished.
As the investigation progresses we learn details of the family and the year leading up to the day of the fire.
The relationships, secrets and lies surrounding them are woven together into a complex plot which with the details from newspaper articles, emergency call logs, police and fire investigation emails gave the case a chilling reality.
Adam and his teams characters are developing with each book, so although you could read this as a standalone I would recommend reading the series in order to get the most enjoyment from it.
Thankfully Adam manages to sift through the evidence and reach the correct result, unlike me, I unfortunately had totally the wrong person as the guilty party.
A very clever police procedural/thriller which I was lucky enough to read as an ARC, thanks to Netgalley and Penguin UK,. A well deserved 5stars.
I enjoyed this read, mainly due to the characters and solid storyline.
It's a good police procedural that is the 3rd in a series, but, which does stand alone.
DI Adam Fawley is the key character, who is having marital issues at the same time he's wrestling with a difficult case and issues within his team. The story twists and turns and maintains interest whilst moving back and forth in time. I wasn't wowed with it, but, did enjoy and can recommend as a good page turner.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to preview this good read.
The 3rd in this series and it didn’t disappoint . The same loveable characters a few months down the line from where we saw book 2 i n The Dark leave off .a house fire with. Fatalities but who started it and why . Cara hunters style of writing is excellent and I cannot wait to read more from her . Definitely Broking one of my favourite authors . Easy 5 stars 🌟
I enjoyed Books 1 and 2 in the series, but was slightly irritated by the use of text and email messaging as a narrative device. But I liked the characters and the storyline and went along with the style. However, in this third book, I found the constant detailed emailing, the online news with comments by increasingly virulent and abusive trolls (all the things that keep me from even trying Twitter and keeping my facebook profile to a few well-regulated groups!), spoilt the narrative. A pity as I was previously enjoying the growing relationships and dynamics between the team. Just not for me.
Thank you #netgalley for the chance to read this book I have read the previous 2 in the series and loved them. These books don't have chapters it just goes straight through the story it also puts in small sections about what appears in the news and online about the murder or crime that has been committed which I really like it's different to other books in that way. I like the police characters as well they are all struggling with there own tales such as broken families, children that have died etc and you get a real feel for them too. This is a story about a family that die in a house fire just after Christmas and it goes back and forwards between now and the past to reveal the story and how things happen that happen and it unravels who is responsible and why. I really like this series of books and can't wait for the next one to come out. Thank you for giving me the chance to read this book.
I really enjoyed reading the first two books in the DI Fawley series and I’m pleased to report that Book 3, NO WAY OUT, was just as thrilling.
The story is told in present day and flashbacks, revelations drip fed to keep the reader turning the pages. The plot is twisty and full of tension and chilling details. As with her other narratives, the author peppers the storyline with lots of interesting detail such as emergency call logs, tweets and newspaper articles.
The characters are well-developed and it was enjoyable getting to know DI Fawley and his team a little better. Very much looking forward to the next book! Recommended.
Excellent read with a gripping story line which had me captivated from the start. The book portrayed the characters in an interesting way which wanted me to read more. This is my first read penned by this particular author and I will most certainly be reading more and recommending to other avid book readers interested in this same genre.
3/5 This is my second DI Fawley novel, and I liked this one better than the first. The main story is, of course, about the Esmond family house that burnt down with their two young children in it, and both parents nowhere to be found. As the investigation progresses, secrets are revealed and connections are made, till a final reveal with a twist.
What I enjoyed about this book--and this holds for most crime/police procedural novels I like--is the interplay of the regulars, their back stories and baggage, and the pressures they are under. Fawley, for instance, forever haunted by the suicide of his preteen son, struggling to cope with the two child victims of the fire.
What I didn't enjoy so much were the flashbacks. It seemed like cop-out to tell us what happened in the past rather than letting the detectives unravel it. Also, <spoiler>the twist about the DNA</spoiler>, I saw it coming a mile off and can't imagine trained police officers not working it out.
(Received a review copy from NetGalley)
Very short review - ABSOLUTELY SUPERB! I've read all 3 books in the series and all have been brilliant. Only very minor comment (trying not to spoil ending) - I would have liked a final section that suggests the lost 'body' may not actually be missing. Don't miss this one
I loved this book from the first chapter. Alternating between the outgoing investigation of the potential murders caused by a house fire and the year leading up to that fateful day, the story unfolded as layers were peeled back to expose more snippets about the characters and their movements. I veered between one theory to another as I absorbed the drip fed information and didn't quite guess the whole story until the final.pages. A fantastic read with a sad but believable storyline which was brilliantly written in a way to hook me in and keep my interest held throughout. Just wonderful!!
