3.5 Set in the Midway point in the upper peninsula of Michigan, Mark discovers he has inherited an old Victorian house. The aunt who disappeared from his life when he was a young teen, has passed on,
leaving Mark in a quandry as to what to do with the house. His life is in Chicago, but he travels to Manistique, to meet first with the attorney , and then on to the house to see just what he has inherited.
A sweet, rather charming book that is also very humorous at times. Some quirky characters that are easy to like, some also at a crossroads in their own lives. He finds that his aunt had been running a B&B, and when strangers start appearing at his door, he unwillingly is drawn into a veritable comedy of errors. He will eventually find out done secrets kept for she's, in his own family.
Just a quirky, fun read, in a beautiful setting.

This is a new to me author. I enjoyed the style of writing it was like you were there watching the story unfold. Mark inherits a house from his aunt and learns it is a bed and breakfast. He tries to keep people out but they keep showing up looking for a room. These people take you on a wild ride with all the things happening in their lives. There is a connection between Mark and a guest and the twist at the end was such a shock. I want to read more about Mark and the many other characters in the book.
Pleasantly surprised by the way this story turned out. It's filled with small town quaint feeling with humor thrown in and a possible budding relationship. I could totally relate to Mark's fear of bridges and if I ever find myself up that way I know how to solve that problem. Of course that isn't all the problems he faces. He has the contend with his Aunt's estate that is surprising a B&B that has guests arriving, things that need done and a woman who was detoured from her original route due for an incident with a deer. As they get to know each other, they'll have a decided if fate played a part in their happenstance and what they are ultimately going to do about it.
This book's genre is very hard to classify. I guess it would depend on the reader but it should have a very broad appeal as it does not fit into any one genre.
The main characters arrive in Manistique by happenstance. One has inherited a property from an aunt and is just there to check it out. The other is on her way to an assignation when she hits a deer and needs to interrupt her trip. The property turns out to be an operating bed and breakfast that has guests already booked so he is "stuck" operating a B&B with no experience while she checks in and decides to stay awhile.
With a little mystery, a little humor, a little love story and a little of everything else, you'll soon find yourself rooting for the characters and trying to figure out what the author's next move will be. It was a very enjoyable read that I've already recommended to my friends.
This book was a fast read. Not my normal genre but I was invited to read it. I find it to be a ‘cute’ and ‘cozy’ type book. I really like that the romance part wasn’t over done. The quirkiness was also a nice addition.
When his Aunt leaves him her home in Manistique, Mark makes a quick trip to the UP to settle the estate. On his first night in the house, he finds out it’s actually a bed and breakfast…and guests are booked and arriving. His first guest, Emily, is a doctor heading to her new residency program. She’s ‘stuck’ in Manistique due to a deer-car accident. A series of experiences keep her in town, to the delight of Mark. Additional guests arrive and Mark is forced to host, whether he likes it or not.
Meanwhile, a friend of deceased Aunt Vivian’s serves as handyman and local connection for Mark. His experience in Manistique could change the course of his life.
It’s a delightful story full of enjoyable coincidences. It makes the reader look forward to a trip to the UP of Michigan.
This was a fun, quirky little story with a quaint town and surroundings. I enjoyed the two main characters. What a hoot. I love a story that has witty responses and comebacks.
I enjoyed the whole story line surrounding Vivian's life. The whole area and all of the details are believable.
It kept me interested!

I did not enjoy this book, nor finish it. The MC was incredibly narcissistic and was totally sexist.
Very entertaining, captivating, and interesting read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong and intriguing characters. I want to read more from this author. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I have to say that I was immediately drawn into the lives of Mark and Emily. The characters are relatable and quirky and allow your mind to capture what it might be like to be in their respective shoes. Mark is trying to piece together how his deceased aunt became the owner of a bed and breakfast, while Emily is stranded and needing a place to stay as she travels to meet a mystery man. This a must read that intertwines the lives of the characters and leaves you wondering if fate can and does people together for a reason.
I liked this.book very much. It is a sweet, heartwarming story. the characters are charming as is the setting of the B&B. The ending was not what I thought, and that was perfect.
I really liked it. It felt different to other novels that I usually read. I am mainly into historical novels, but this one was a nice "literary-like" one that was light and with a great sense of humor. I enjoyed the characters and the ending was interesting. It reads somewhat slow in the beginning but after a few chapters in I could not put it down. If you are looking for something refreshing, with some fun, quirky situations, this book is a must. Definitely worth it.
Very sweet story of a gentlemen meeting with people in his aunt's B & B. Very touching.and heartwarming
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. This novel was a delightful way for an armchair traveler to visit Manistique, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula (UP!). The story deftly glided between several different speeds and plot archetypes – Rom Com, poignant family drama, hilarious Noel Coward character study (multiple bedroom doors included) – and it is because of this diversity that I continued to find myself turning page after page, wanting to know what was going to happen next and how everyone’s lives were going to intersect. I would definitely recommend this title to book clubs that like to discuss life decisions and the idea of the “what if.”

I requested this book due to the fact that it was set in my homestate of Michigan.
Mark's aunt passes away and leaves behind a B&B to him. He doesn't live in Michigan so he goes there to meet with a real estate agent to sell.
Little does he know the surprises in store for him. Several characters come across his path and open his eyes to what's important in life.
There is a twist and the ending was not what I thought it would be.
This was a cute story. I am glad I was able to read it.!
I truly enjoyed Stuck in Manistique. Mark was an interesting character and I really enjoyed the relationship he developed with Emily. I loved getting to know the "regulars" of Manistique. Mark's Aunt Vivian had quite the life there before she passed away and she seemed to make long lasting friendships with the locals. I did feel that the story was a bit predicable but it was still worth reading. It was a light but heartwarming story. I would recommend this books to others.

When Mark's estranged aunt Vivian dies, he inherits her house in Manistique, Michigan. He learns that her house was also a bed and breakfast when Emily shows up looking for a room. Emily had been traveling to her family home in Wisconsin after graduating medical school when a deer hit her car near Manistique. The local hotel was full, so they suggested she check Vivian's B&B instead. The last thing Mark wants is to run a bed and breakfast, but he finds he can't turn Emily down. Over the next few days, unexpected events keep happening; secrets are revealed, and the B&B slowly collects an eccentric cast of strays.
I expected this to be a classic boy-meets-girl story, but I was pleased to learn that it was so much more. The cover had also led me to expect a serious story, but there is a lot of humor throughout the book! This was an excellent debut; I hope Cuesta comes out with more novels.
Great book so far! I am 80% in, and it disappeared from my Kindle. So far, quirky and fun. Everything that can go wrong seems to go wrong for poor old Mark! I just need to know how this one ends... it will kill me if I don't...

This was a light and fun read. Mark is in Manistique, Michigan to take care of his recently deceased aunt's estate which includes a bed and breakfast. Emily winds up in Manistique after the windshield of her car is shattered during an unfortunate incident with a deer. Both Mark and Emily want to take care of their business and move on to their original destinations but circumstances keep working against them in a number of interesting, and occasionally annoying ways. Definitely recommend.
I enjoyed this book with small town charm! I enjoyed the characters, the twists and turns. The humor, the connection of the characters made it a great read.
