I love this cookbook! I'm a big Southern Living fan and this cookbook definitely delivered! It is beautiful inside and out and so enjoyable to read. Many of the recipes sound delicious and I am excited to try them! The only downside is that there are not pictures with all of the recipes and there are no nutritional facts. Besides that, I really enjoyed it though. The pictures that are throughout the book are just gorgeous! I will definitely be coming back to this often!

Five stars for The Southern Living Party Cookbook; A Modern Guide to Gathering! This book starts with a hosting handbook and then is divided into different types of events that someone could host. With each event there is a gorgeous picture included of what the set up/scheme could look like to give th reader inspiration for the event idea. As a reader, it made me want to have a reason to host all of these events as soon as possible. As a visual person, I appreciated the gorgeous pictures of the table scheme, invitation ideas and all of the recipes.
With each main course, side dish and dessert, there are notes and special details that include substitutions or tips to help preserving or cooking the dish that every host would get from a recipe passed down or given by a true friend.
I love that Elizabeth Heiskell includes a special personal story or anecdote with each event to give the reader an idea of when to have this kind of event or meal planned and how it worked for her.
This book would be perfect for a newly married couple, a person starting off on their own, or just someone interested in new recipes or hosting certain events, special meals for friends or family. I loved it all!

I received an Advanced Reader Copy from Southern Living for my unbiased opinion of the book. This entertaining/cookbook/etiquette guide is worth its weight in gold! It has everything you could possibly want in this type of book. I loved every page from the place setting, drinking glass, menu planning ideas and more! I gladly made wonder wings with cider vinegar-brown butter honey drizzle, sausage balls, bacon waffles with pecan chicken tenders, blue cheese bacon dip, she-crab soup, cheese straw tomato tartlets, bourbon balls, peach melba, frozen lemon cream, and beef fondue. The recipes were easy to read as well as follow. I didn't have a single leftover! I will be giving this book out at Christmas time and it already has become one of my most treasured entertaining reference guides!

A beautiful book that takes the pressure off entertaining. Elizabeth Heiskell lays out everything a new host needs to plan a gathering of any size and type. Tips for glassware, serving dishes, silverware, etiquette, buffets, various styles of parties, and so much more is laid out in an easy to follow format. The photography is luxurious in feel and makes me wish I would be invited to Heiskell's next soiree.

Loveful book. Elizabeth shares her great experience in elegant parties. The list of recipes is incredible and amazing: colorful and tasteful recipes from canapes & chic drinks to main dishes. The selection is adapted for any type of parties like graduation or chic banquet.

While the photos accompanying the recipes are gorgeous and the recipes easy to follow, "The Southern Living Party Cookbook" isn't just a cookbook: It is a comprehensive guide to hosting a wide variety of parties and gatherings. From brunch to showers, this book has everything covered. While some books have titles that oversell the content, this one doesn't begin to cover the wide variety of hosting topics covered. Don't know how to set the table? This book has it. Not sure what the protocol is for invitations and RSVPs? It's in there. In a time where people are returning to cooking at home and throwing parties on their own, this guide is a true treasure.

This is a delightful guide to entertaining in the deep south. Told with anecdotes and charm you will find yourself hoping for a party invite.

I was already a HUGE Southern Living fan (and long time magazine subscriber). This book is written in my favorite format of SL, old and revamped new recipes back to back. I can't wait for this book to be in print. I absolutely love entertaining and am excited to use new recipes!

This book was a delight to read over and try some of the Items in the book. My oldest Daughter this summer took Party Planner so we used this book to help her and she made it to State Fair this year. Our favorite items are what I decided to add pictures of so please take a look and enjoy! If you like to host parties and want to get some great Ideas this book is for you!

The Southern living cookbook first came out in 1972. It was filled with tips and tricks for throwing the perfect party, host and hostess etiquette, and of course recipes. This book is not much different in what it contains but it is more up to date. Since we no longer go to back yard barbecues wearing suits, it needed and update.
There are still tons of great recipes in the book, that also have pictures. There are full party plans for barbecues, brunches, lunches, wine tasting, celebrations, dinners, and more.
The book has decorating ideas, what types of dishes and glasses to use and so much more. Everything you need for an impressive southern party.
I received this book from the Author or Publisher via Netgalley.com to read and review.

I love Southern Living books. They are always beautiful to look at with wonderful pictures. They include recipes that I love to try. This book did not disappoint. This is the perfect book if you like to entertain and throw parties. It starts with Etiquette and invites with very helpful information. One of my favorite additions to the book is buffet feng shui. It describes how to lay out a visually appealing buffet. We sometimes get in a rut of laying out our food and it gives us great ideas. It also shows a table setting fit for a queen. Labels all the different parts as well. This is all before the delicious recipes. They also included estimating quantities. This is one of the hardest things for me. The menu ideas for parties starts at Teas, Coffees and Receptions and goes all the way to Tailgates. If you like to entertain you need this book. At the end it shares ideas form the 1972 version of this book. It has been reinterpreted and updated. I think you will enjoy it.

The cover -- while beautiful-- was a bit intimidating for me since I'm a pretty basic party attendee :) I RSVP, and bring a gift (usually) wine, so this book was an eye opener for sure! How would I think to Feng Shui a Buffet? Having "a glass for every toast" terrifies me, so I truly appreciated a book (other than Emily Post) to give me the basics of party etiquette. The book also brought back memories of my time in the service industry -- literally how to set a table. It also had suggestions for gifts (not wine), so again, I was pleasantly surprised. Personally, there's nothing I cringe more at than being unprepared. The recipes themselves are fairly easy to make with ingredients easily obtainable (sausage and grits quiche, blushing mimosas!, and tea sandwiches that I'd love to try). All of this being said, I only wish I had a group of friends that would appreciate the effort this book encourages readers to make!

"The Southern Living Cookbook: A Modern Guide to Gathering" is a brightly photographed entertaining/cookbook that is divided into several themed gatherings. It starts with a primer section on some entertaining/hosting basics before diving into the themed recipes. Some recipes are culled from the 1972 Southern Living Cookbook - other recipes are variations of some popular pinned/social media recipes. The photos in the book have the bright aesthetic found across social media that everyone tries seems to be emulating. While it was a fun read through, it didn't engage me and didn't seem to offer anything unique that has me looking to add the recipes to my entertaining file. Compared to several recent southern flavor recipes, felt like it was more show and less flavor.
Free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Book is available October 23rd.

After downloading the Southern living party cookbook to my computer I was delightfully surprised to find many recipes not only from the past but new ones pertaining to today’s lifestyle.. The book was not only well organized but extremely easy to navigate., Clearly written recipes are easy to follow. and relate immediately to outstanding photographs, unlike many cookbooks where you have to search for the recipe after seeing the photograph. A book every cook could benefit from in their library.

Kick back and enjoy a nice cup of Champagne Punch followed up with a nice dish of Chicken Salad Pastry Shells thanks to the recipes found in The Southern Living Party Cookbook: A Modern Guide to Gathering by Elizabeth Heiskell. Other recipes you will find in her cookbook include:
Almond-Butter Cookies
Quick Petits Fours
Deviled Eggs
Herbed Hamburger Sliders
Marinated Whole Beef Tenderloin
Grilled Romaine with Charred Lemon-Feta Vinaigrette
Hoppin' John Hushpuppies
You will also discover information concerning party etiquette, table settings and how to estimate needed food quantities. Throughout her cookbook you also find plenty of color photos depicting the recipes and party settings.

Review written after downloading a galley from NetGalley.

Southern Living cookbooks are among my favorites, and this one did not disappoint! Many occasions represented with well put-together menus consisting of recipes that are simple enough for almost anyone to handle and the photography, as always with SL cookbooks, is gorgeous. I can't wait to try some of these recipes!

Like many cookbooks, there are recipes I would try and others that I would skip, but there is more to this cookbook than recipes. There is practical advice on planning, grouped recipes for your perfect party, and the photos are beautiful. It’s a Southern Living Win!

Thank you NetGalley for my arc.
Absolutely love Southern Living. This book offered great tips and gorgeous pictures!!

I like how this book starts off giving basics of party planning, for those not familiar with the rituals. Very nice recipes, a blend of old favorites and new classics. Perfect menus for every occasion imaginable. Each recipe/theme comes with a gorgeous pictures. I aspire to throw parties this beautiful ... much less organized!

Beautiful book that is more than a cookbook!
In a way this book is a mixture of party ideas, stories from the author and her life and the different parties and ideas behind them she experienced or hosted as well as a wonderful mixture of recipes and full party menu's.
I found this entire book beautiful to read through and look at the pictures alone, since honestly its just a stunningly done book!
But the recipes are also very nice and even though i haven't tried all of them -or any of the alcoholic drink ones- i am sure that they all work!
