I love the Betches website, so I expected to love this book. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the hype for me.

Finally! After years of reading through a bunch of dry, snobby career guides that make me want to curl up in a ball somewhere with some cookie dough wondering what will happen with my life, I have discovered the ultimate guide for job searches, tough bosses and everything in between. “When’s Happy Hour?: Work Hard So You Can Hardly Work” by The Betches is an awesome guide for women in the working world. Whether you are at the beginning of your career, changing jobs, or just trying to get on with the one you have, the Betches dole out a ton of great information to help you out along the way.

As I read this book, I felt like I had gathered all my best friends around a table (probably at a gorgeous café somewhere) and begged them to give me all the wisdom they had about finding and keeping a job. The Betches were both as encouraging and as blunt as you would want your friends to be while still utterly hilarious. The information was laid out perfectly. It was short, sweet, to the point and there wasn’t ever a moment where I felt like I was missing a script or I was being talked down to. This book was a no-judge zone that was aiming to help you honestly look at yourself as an employee (both in a positive and realistic light) and recognize the ways you could better your work situation. Everything was worded in such a way that it was impossible not to respond with “oh that’s not too rough” or “yeah, I can do that.” Along with all of that were hilarious real-world examples that both lightened the tone and made it easy to relate to. (Let’s just say I think I know a few people who could use advice from this one). It was especially refreshing to read a book like this aimed for millennial women. There was never a feeling like I could just ignore a section because it wasn’t meant for me. I found myself reading through each section and getting great advice, even if I wasn’t currently at that point in my career.

I totally wish that I’d had this book when I was first graduating college. The Betches dedicate a good chunk of this book to explaining how to apply for jobs and how to network. But there was great advice for those of us who have been in the workforce as well. I loved the sections on how to deal with a difficult manager and how to behave at a night out with your co-workers. I suggest keeping a highlighter close at hand for this book.

And so, in conclusion, if you are a smart, ambitious millennial woman in need of some career advice, I would totally recommend this book. In fact, if you are only 3 or 4 things out of that five, I would still recommend it to you! Not only will it be one of the more enjoyable career guides that you could ever read, but it will give you a new confidence to try new things and live the career you have dreamed of!

When's Happy Hour is a career book through and through but it is SO FUN. You will not find another career book like this on the market. They say everything you want to say and everything you feel, and they don't apologize for it. It's true Betches fashion.

It covers everything from how to get a job, to how to craft a resume and how to manage people. It even covers maternity leave! Not many books take you from start to finish that way.

It's also one of the only books that I feel like has actually given me steps on what to do when it comes to starting your own business. It's very clear, concise and to the point.

When’s Happy Hour? Is filled with timely advice in the modern workplace. I found myself laughing and cringing when I read this book. I think young professionals will enjoy this book and may even recognize some situations they have already been navigating.

For fans of the Betches website (shout out to Cornell alumni!) comes a new book intended to help young woman navigate the ever-changing workforce. Smart, snarky, and filled with pop culture references and in your face commentary, this book will have readers laughing along with the tons of great relatable examples that have happened to at least once in a woman's career. A great book for a great laugh because if you're not laughing, you're probably crying.
