The latest book for the BlogHer Book Club is The Chaperone by Laura Moriarty. The Chaperone is set in the 1920′s where Cora, a plain housewife from Witchita, agrees to chaperone, Laura, a teenage diva who is attending several months of dance classes in New York City. It seems like a trip of a lifetime for Cora, doesn’t it? Cora and Laura couldn’t be more different, and Witchita is nothing like NYC. It doesn’t take very long before the reader discovers that there is a secret — don’t all good books have a secret? Anyhow, this book covers all hotly debated topics of late. If you are looking for a fun summer beach read, this is not it, but if you are looking for historical fiction with a dash of politics and society, then this is the book for you.
