Wow! I mowed through this book on the edge of my seat as a day in Paris unfolds in the deft hands of writer Chris Pavone. I enjoyed all his previous novels and was excited to see he had written a follow up to ExPats, which I really enjoyed and discussed in my library’s book group. It is not necessary to have read Expats first, however, as Pavone does retell the key plot points and characters but I would still recommend it as a really good spy novel with a very interesting setting Luxembourg).
Pavone really captures the essence of Paris as he describes a terror-filled day developing in locations throughout the city. What made this novel so riveting to me was the masterful detail with which he has developed his characters and laid out their motivations. I found Kate Moore to be a refreshingly different type of spy and enjoyed her perspective in both this novel and Expats.
If you enjoyed the Bourne novels and movies, or if you rarely read the spy thriller genre, this is one I plan to recommend to library patrons and friends!!

I have read the previous books by this author and have enjoyed them. That was not so for this book. None of the characters had any redeeming qualities. The changes from present to past and back to present was choppy at best. Yes. The story took place in France, but the constant use of French phrases was unnecessary. Additionally, not only did I not like the ending but more so the ending left too many of the story's storylines without closure. I am giving this book a very generous three star rating.
