Better than I expected, I enjoyed it.

I would like to thank NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

I became a fan of Busy through her Instagram stories(I know, I know, I haven’t seen Freaks and Geeks!) and love her candor and honesty! Reading her book felt like watching her Instagram stories-it was her voice. It did make me think that for however open and vulnerable we are on social media, you can never really know a person from their social media presence. There is so much that makes up a person!!

I loved this book. It was heartbreaking and hilarious and kept me up long into the night. And I woke up still thinking about it. Busy for everything!

This title was a welcome release for this genre of books by actors/actresses! Busy Philipps brought a fresh voice to the table and shared parts of her life not everyone knows, even being someone that follows her Instagram religiously! Highly recommended if you're looking for something funny, revealing, and new!

There are so many reasons to love Busy Philipps and this book should be at the top of the list. The candor, humor, and a bit of dish this book was everything I want from a "Hollywood" memoir and more.

Busy Philipps writes about her childhood struggles, her teenage drama, and adulthood hardships. She has experienced painful sibling clashes, embarrassingly public mishaps, her own #MeToo experiences, relationship struggles, and motherhood strife.
Philipps skillfully paints the scenes of her past for the readers making it easy to imagine themselves present in her life. Readers will be hard pressed to NOT find something about Busy that they can relate to. She even includes the less flattering thoughts and facts that many experience, but few want to admit to. It is a good read.

People love Busy Philipps. She's funny and relatable in many aspects. My library purchased a total of 16 copies of Busy's book. I would recommend to book clubs searching for a Biography suggestions.

I will admit it, I have a weakness for celebrity memoirs especially those by people I like. I will be honest, I didn't know anything about Busy Philips besides her being on Freaks and Geeks and Dawson's Creek. I do follow her on instagram and she posts some entertaining stuff so I thought I might like this. I listened to the audiobook--which is narrated by Bust herself. I'm not sure how to rate this, because I am basically rating someone's life. I will say I found a few of her anecdotes so heartbreaking and real. She covers tough topics with sincerity and I just wanted to hug her. But just when I would think "This girl and I could be friends in real life," she would share a story or say something that would make her seem so braggy and insecure. I mean I am all for supporting a strong woman and her successes but a little more humility would have been nice. I also feel like she name dropped A LOT. I get it you know famous people but you don't have to refer to them by their first and last name while just calling your non-famous friends by their first names. I don't know, I feel like listening to the audiobook may have been a mistake but may have also been the best way to capture the real Busy Philipps' voice. (Maybe I just didn't get her humor) Overall, it was a quick-paced memoir and would recommend to anyone who enjoys Busy as an actress.

I received an ARC of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Actress Busy Philipps remains as captivating, fun, and vulnerable in This Will Only Hurt a Little as she is on Instragram. Philipps writes about growing up and becoming an actress along with personal struggles along the way. I was surprised to find myself laughing out loud while reading on the subway and trying not to cry at other times. Her honesty and vulnerability make Philipps memoir feel entirely different than other Hollywood biographies that focus on a more 'tell all' angle. She feels relatable despite the fame, with just enough insider talk. I think I even found the sections before her bigger television roles best! I loved this and would recommend it to fans of Busy as well as anyone that enjoys memoirs, celebrity or otherwise.

I was one of the few people on the planet who first learned about Busy Philipps while watching Cougar Town. (Penny Can!!!) I loved her character, Laurie Keller, and have been following her on social media ever since.

I was delighted to see that she had a book coming out and was thrilled to get my hands on an advanced copy. This Will Only Hurt A Little was exactly what I had hoped for from Busy Phillips. She starts out by telling us about her childhood and difficult teen years. She gets brutally honest here and it only makes me like her that much more.

She then goes on to talk about her years at college and her college boyfriend, the son of Hollywood royalty, Colin Hanks. Even though she was from a normal suburban family in Arizona, she drops names like she was born of Hollywood royalty herself. Of course, she discusses her famous BFF, Michelle Williams. Their friendship has been so public that women all over the world compare their friendships to that of Busy and Michelle. She also shares with the readers the grind that is show business. From her early gigs to the shows we all love, she tells us about it all with an honesty that is fresh and entertaining. She also gets honest about her relationships. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Even with her husband of more than ten years. Her refreshing honesty and ability to connect with everybody has gained her 1.3 million followers on Instagram.

Bottom Line - I love celebrity memoirs. I just do. I like to find out that they are just like me. They have laundry that piles up, they love to watch old Friends episodes, and they love to hang out with their friends. This Will Only Hurt A Little is a fun one that I promise you will enjoy, too.

I was a huge fan of Busy Phillips on Dawson's Creek and have seen her in both Freaks and Geeks and Cougar Town. I truly enjoyed reading this memoir and learning about her struggles to make it as an actor and how she found true love through all the rough patches in her life. If you like her work, you will love her book.

A force to be reckoned with as Busy tells it how it is with humor and holding nothing back. At times abrasive but with much appreciated honesty and forthrightedness. A couragious memoir of motherhood, fame, being a daughter and being a strong independent woman.

Book Review: This Will Hurt Only A LIttle by Busy Phillips

I am a huge fan of celebrity memoirs. I love gaining insight of their childhood, life what got them to where they are. Busy Phillip’s memoir was a winner.

In this memoir, Busy shares her struggles growing up. She doesn’t shy away from talking about the tough subjects. She was rape, she had an abortion and met the Pope. She was honest and raw. She didn’t sugarcoated her struggles.

I loved that she does name names of those who were a douchebag in Hollywood. She is also honest about being a Hollywood star and what it’s like not to have the typical body.

After reading this book I became a fan of Busy Phillips. I can’t wait to watch Busy Tonight moving forward.

I hope she writes a follow up book.

I will post this review on What to Read Next Blog on October 30, 2018.

I really enjoyed this - so conversational, and a nice balance of stories about Busy’s childhood, acting career, and personal life/motherhood. She discusses some big, heavy issues (sexual assault, workplace inequality, mental health, grief); I liked how they were organically presented as parts of her life story. Busy seems as frank, funny, and unfiltered, yet also as earnest and loving, as those who follow her work/social media might expect.

Fantastic memoir. Makes me nostalgic for the 90s. Love that Busy describes herself as feeling like she is on the outside when I feel like she is way too cool for me. She is definitely a "sparkly" person.

Tell em' Busy! I think it takes a lot of guts to put it out there like Busy does in her new memoir, This Will Only Hurt a Little. She basically has no time to coddle anyone anymore and she doesn't care who she upsets in the long run.

This was dishy and honest and a fascinating insight into the amount of work and money it takes to be a working actor. I mean, it was still a bit ramble-y for my usual taste, but I knew what I was getting into. I really loved how Busy titled the chapters with significant songs from those periods of her life. If you like celeb memoirs, this is one to check out.

I've been really into celebrity biographies lately and Busy Philipps seems like a pretty awesome person in general so I requested this book from NetGalley and did not regret it. Yes, there are some writing quirks that took me out of reading occasionally and I didn't love everything about Ms. Philipps but it is an honest look at her life detailing even the parts where she herself was not the greatest person and times when she thought she could have stepped up but didn't but also times when she did step up and it helped. Readings stories like this make you really realize exactly how human actors are (well, most of them) with their own foibles and good points.

If you're not following Busy Philipps on Instagram you are missing out on a really fun follow. If you're a viewer of her Instagram stories you'll find a familiar tone here. There are lots of behind the scenes type Hollywood stories if you're into that sort of thing and she takes no prisoners when it comes to bad behavior particularly from men in her industry, speaking frankly of her experiences over the course of her career. This isn't some gossipy, celebrity tell-all though. She dishes about names you'll know but it feels less about gossip and more about them being held accountable. Busy Phillips gives zero f!#ks. She will call you out and it rules. She's equally honest and frank about herself, though, and it isn't always pretty but it's relatable. Fans won't be disappointed in this book but there's lots there for those unfamiliar with Busy Philipps too. Out in October! Thanks Netgalley!

I received a digital review copy from NetGalley and the publisher.
Prior to reading This Will Only Hurt a Little, I only knew Busy Phillips from her time on Dawson’s Creek, now I follow her on Instagram. Her book is funny, and sad, and every emotion in between. Busy did not sugarcoat her life in this book; instead she let us in on every horrifying, heartbreaking, and wonderful experience. She recounts her story of trying to make it in Hollywood where males and the super skinny rule. She is also breathtakingly honest regarding her own mental health struggles. This Will Only Hurt a Little, had me hooked from start to finish. I laughed, and cried as I read her struggles and her triumphs. Busy is strong, funny, talented and unapologetic, and so is her book. It felt like I was chatting with her over a glass of wine each night, rather than reading her book. She is a role model, not only for her daughters, but for girls everywhere.

This book made me laugh and cry and laugh again. Busy is a talented writer who makes you feel like you are her best friend chatting over margaritas and chips. The book is candid and honest and gives you what you wanted to know and surprising you with things you didn’t know you wanted to know!
