Sweet romance with well written characters, a bright spot in the romance genre. Heyford will be on everyone's TBR list.
This was a sweet story with a HEA - a second chance romance that flourishes despite several obstacles. Harley and Jack were a little bit one note, but overall this was a fun romance.
This wasn't a bad book really. I enjoyed Heather Heyford's writing. But i would have enjoyed it more if I liked the hero, which I didn't. I thought he was weak and I didn't feel like he changed enough to deserve the heroine.
I had the opportunity to read this book thanks to Netgalley. I have read all of the Wilamette Valley books by Ms. Heyford through Netgalley, and this was my favorite. I love a good second chance romance, and this one was a little more complicated than normal!
Harley and Jack grew up together, but they were complete opposites. Jack's mother did not approve of their relationship, and went to great lengths to keep them apart. Finding themselves back in their hometown after 10+ years, will they get their second chance?
Review by Amber for Love Romance Books Blog
Haley and Jack were childhood sweethearts. Then it ended. They both moved out of their hometown, Jack to New Zealand and Haley to Seattle. They both moved on, and Jack had two little girls.
Ten years later, Haley is ready for a fresh start, and moves back to her hometown to run a bed and breakfast. She never quite got over Jack, but she figures that she will never run into him. After all, he is in New Zealand, right?
Except he isn’t in New Zealand. He is right there in the Willamette Valley, back where they started. He wants a fresh start, too, and figures it’s time to get involved in the family business.
I won’t get too much into the detail, but this is a sweet second chance romance. Jack and Haley have great chemistry, and the twins are adorable. I would give this book 3.5 stars.
I was asked by the other for an honest review.
Once upon a time Jack and Harley were friends… more than friends actually. Childhood friends, all the way through high school Harley was convinced that she and Jack had a beautiful future ahead of them – together. Enter the wicked witch, otherwise known as Jack’s meddling, manipulative mother who never saw Harley as good enough for her son… and stacked the deck against her. Jack’s sudden, totally unexpected engagement blindsided Harley and maybe drove her to become the success she is today. Lives change, dreams turn into something different – but do people ever really change? Harley is about to find out as she faces down Jack and his mother for something she desperately wants, and intends to get.
There is so much that I liked about Right All Along, and one person that I’ll never be convinced can change her spots. Call me too suspicious, but I don’t buy that Jack’s mother can ever completely make a turnaround in attitude… but that’s my view of her.
Harley is successful, determined, a bit stubborn – and still has feelings for Jack, even after all that happened. Living near him, seeing him constantly is both pain and pleasure. Her growing relationship with Jack’s twin daughters is believable and so welcomed in their lives. Those girls have their daddy wrapped around adorable pinkies, but then don’t most daughters?
Jack is… well, I liked jack better once he stopped listening to his mother – finally. His love for his girls, his enjoyment of the winery, and his realization of the mistake he made years ago make him an interesting man. Once committed to his path he lets nothing stop his relationship with Harley, not even the woman he loves herself.
It’s not going to be a smooth road for these two to finding a happy ending together. Yet watching the growth, the acceptance, even the defiance made their journey enjoyable to experience. If you enjoy a second chance at love, single dads and finally finding that perfect for you partner – then you’ll enjoy Right All Along.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
Right All Along by Heather Heyford
A Willamette Valley Romance #3
Mixed feelings on this one…love this author and all of the previous books I have read by her but thought that Jack Friestatt was a bit of a wimp and mama’s boy. This is a second chance romance for Jack and Harley Miller-Jones. They were friends for years then very close in high school only to find that their dreams of a future together were taken from them…and neither really realized how badly they were treated till almost the end of the book.
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Did I find it believable? For the most part
Do I want to read more by this author? Definitely
Even though I cannot see myself in Harley I did enjoy this book. I might be able to see how Jack could be so malleable but at the same time if he had been a bit stronger…well…that wasn’t possible in this book but I did want to give him a talking to a few times. His mother? I wanted to do more than give her a talking to even when I heard her backstory!
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books – Lyrical Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.
3-4 Stars
I love the sweet, heartwarming stories about Ribbon Ridge, Oregon that Heather Heyford has been bringing to us. Each story is filled with love and respect and now a little drama from a matriarch that turned my stomach until her true colors were shown and then I kind of liked her.
Jack and Harley had a past together. One that was beautiful and loving and which Harley thought would last forever. Until one day, it was over. Harley couldn't stay there after that so off she went and made a good name for herself. She's back now and the house of her dreams is for sale. It would be perfect for her new career. Until she is sitting across the table in a bidding war with the one man that she hoped she wouldn't see.
Jack was never happy in his marriage but is so proud and lucky to have his twin daughters. Moving back to Ribbon Ridge is his mother's idea. She feels that he needs to find a new wife, a mother for his daughter's and to settle down again. He's trying to do her bidding but it's getting harder and harder. Especially since Harley is living right in his back yard and bringing up a lot of memories. Memories of a time when he was young, carefree and in love. But, his mother still doesn't think that Harley is good enough for him. It's time for him to stand up to her … stand on his own two feet and do what he knows is right for him and his girls.
Heather Heyford always pulls at my heartstrings. She always has a way of telling a story that can be sweet and innocent yet hot and steamy. I love the way she tells a story, writes a romance. She knows how to construct a story and bring in her minor characters to make a big impact on the whole story. He's always enjoyable to read and I always look forward to her next book.
Another enjoyable read from this author. This is a second chance story when both Jack and Harley return to Ribbon Ridge about the same time. They were childhood friends and the closer to high school graduation the closer they became. Then suddenly Jack announces he's getting married crushing Harley's heart in the process. Since then Jack has been living and working in New Zealand fine tuning his vintner skills before taking over the family business. Harley has been working on her art and now that things have taken off for her she returns to Ribbon Ridge to buy the old Victorian she has always loved. Turning it into a b&b is the plan but Harley finds her plans at risk as Jack and his overbearing mother are bidding on it too. Can they find a way to make everyone happy??
I highly recommend this one.
If you are looking for a second chance romance, single father and overbearing mothers then Right All Along is it for you. This was such a fantastic read. I highly enjoyed Harley and Jack. Jack is an amazing father to his twin girls. How he puts up with his overbearing controlling mother is beyond me. The sparks that Harley and Jack shared as kids only have magnified years later. I love Harley. You ache for her during a few moments that come to life in this one. She is incredible with Jacks girls. I think once Jack got past his mother in his ear is when I truly enjoyed him the most. I love this series by Heather Heyford. She has done a fabulous job bring her books alive that you feel like you can be part of their lives.
The author gives us another touching story in this series. This time, the story belongs to Harley Miller-Jones and Jack Freistatt.
Harley is an artist whose commercial products are expanding. She has decided to return to her hometown to find a house now that she will be adopting a baby.
Jack, a widower with twins, has returned as well, after 5 years in New Zealand. Jack and Harley were friends in their youth and sweethearts as they got older, much to his mother’s wishes. He comes from an affluent family and his mother always thought Harley, was beneath him . Thus creating multiple obstacles to stop their friendship and finally succeeded.
Now they are both back in town. The sparks are still alive, but so are the hurts, distrust and betrayals of the past.
It’s a touching story about family, forgiveness, trust, second chances , hope and love.
Another engaging book in this series. Looking forward to what else Ms. Heyford has in store for us.
I was entrusted this copy by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Harley and Jack story is about two past childhood friends and lovers. They both come back home not knowing the other is back in town. This puts their past right smack in their face. Harley is hurting and has to try to learn how to really get on with her life with Jack and his twin daughters living right next to her. This is a story about second chances and forgiveness. They have many obstacles to go through if they want to find their HEA this time. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. that was gracious given to me by Netgalley and the publisher.
He has to earn a place in his own family's company? No nepotism here.
Her parents are crazy, but fun. An exotic dancer?
Jemily. Nice.
What the hell is goat yoga?
Good to see arranged marriage is alive and well.
I would have punched him in the nuts first thing.
Seriously, cut the umbilical cord, Jack.
"Heaven" spelled backwards? People have too much time on their hands.
He's sure his daughters are his, right?
Oh dear God, Prudence.
Alfred, are you sure you like dating the viper of wine country? And why the hell is she ordering food for pre-teen girls? They can decide for themselves!
Yeesh, is every woman in this town batcrap-crazy?
Aw, he knows the language of flowers.
Ha, dirty pirate talk. And in front of the children! Mommie Dearest would be scandalized.
Poor Alfred.
This is a stupid fight.
I don't blame Kelly.
How many classes do these children take?
I don't think he should get involved with his dead wife's sister.
You're alright, Cait.
Heehee, the girls don't want to hear about cramps, but they don't know how monumental this!
A genuinely charming story that you’ll find yourself immersed in, before you know you’ll find yourself at the end rejoicing with Jack and Harley’s and their second chance of a HEA. With the perfect combination of passion and tension, with some below the surface machinations, the couple’s journey has its bumps and bruises, a bit of rough seas makes for a more intriguing romance.
