Thank you to Netgalley and Thomas and Mercer for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I had to DNF this story. I in good conscience could not read a story that is so blatantly pro anti vaccinations. I realize that this story was written before the pandemic and the author has since died, but I find this misinformation to be very hurtful. I did more research and the author was not a fan of vaccinations and I cannot support this ideology.
Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was a bit slower than I would like and it just didn't hold my attention. I am sure other people will love it!
Having recently finished “Malice” by Jennifer Jaynes, I am happy to have had the chance for the e-book; thank you NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer!
This was a quick paced and exciting thriller with one to many substories mixed in with the main plot. I enjoyed the medical Respira vaccine conspiracy as it unfolded in Malice, but felt Mia's moments in this storyline and "the babysitter voice" in Daniel's mind, took away from the medical thriller that this book started out to be. The thought of Respira, and the children it was harming was extremely troubling. Even though this story was written long before the Corona Virus, because of the desperate need for a vaccine in our world today, the medical information and disturbing moral implications brought forth in this book will stay with me for a while.
I really enjoyed this book. I love a book that sucks you in at the start and doesn’t let you go ’til the very end. I got so caught up in this story I just had to keep reading. This fast-paced, psychological thriller has it all - suspense, secrets, lies, deception, betrayal, and unreliable characters.
My only gripe is how can you date for 10 months, get married and no one ever met your wife beforehand? Not your twin sister or co-workers who are like family to you? No one was invited to the wedding?
Thank you to NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer and Jennifer Jaynes for a copy of "Malice" in exchange of an honest review.
Sorry for the long delay in reviewing this book I was very ill for a while and have only just managed to regain access back to my account. I very much loved this book and the author and hope I will be able to read many more of their titles.
I couldnt put this book down. You think you know whats going to happen but your not right. Absolutely wrong in fact. I love it when a book grabs your attention on the first page and thats what exactly happened with this book. I cannot wait to read more of Jennifers books. Highly recommend.
I have loved all of Jennifer's books; and once again was not disappointed with this one. This is a fantastic thrilling read that keeps you guessing until the very end. Recommended.
Jennifer Jaynes knows how to write thrillers. I was a little hesitant to read this one because of the medicinal angle but it still kept me enthralled.
Daniel seems to have a perfect life: recently married to a gorgeous woman, a beachfront home, and a great job as a respected pediatrician. Things start to change when his wife, Mia, begins acting strange. On top of that, Daniel’s work is giving out a new vaccine, which could be dangerous, but he’s been asked to keep quiet about it.
Malice was quite the entertaining read. It focused a little more on Daniel’s work than I expected but that might be a good thing with all the spouse mysteries out there.
Thank you to Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for providing me with an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. I was a little iffy about it going in. Patients have been always told to trust doctors and that they have your best interest at heart, that doctors are ethical and they will treat you like a normal person regardless of what's going on with your lift or your condition. This book centers around Dr. Dan Winters a recently married pediatrician who is questioning a new immunoceutical that his boss his pressuring and advocating to give to their patients. This book has a little bit of everything corruption, murder, suspense and mystery. I really like the way this book was written and it was a fast paced story that kept you interested. I wish it ended differently but it didn't make or break the rest of the story.
I SO loved the ride on this one! I felt grabbed by the first page and compelled to just keep going, mindless of time or adulting or, well, everything. I just could not put it down and am headed out to find another Jennifer Jaynes novel right now!
2*. Cliff-hanger / lack of a resolution.
Malice by Jennifer Jaynes is a medical thriller expounding the dangers of administering a particular vaccination to children.
The blurb should have advised readers that the book ends on a cliff-hanger. I felt the unknowns at the end were a bit of a let-down. Also, that a main protagonist was killed off gave the reader no pay-off. This isn’t a spoiler as it was foreshadowed on the first page of the book.
Like many readers, I like my protagonists to be relatable and likable. However, in this novel, the protagonists as well as the antagonists were unlikable, and somewhat unreliable.
Unfortunately, I found there to be more medical didacticism than character or plot development. The writing style judders and was stilted, lacking an even flow. There were errors that the editors, author and publishers didn’t pick up, such as the age Sam was when he joined the army. He was 18 years old when Mia met him and 2 years later, he was still 18 years old.
The book was repetitive about the vaccine soon to be made compulsory for all children. The good guys lose, the bag guys win. Innocents die. Readers such as me love heroes like Jack Reacher and Cormoran Strike because they are resourceful and win against all odds. Unlike the heroes of this novel.
I would like to thank Thomas & Mercer & #Malice #NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review. I am sorry I couldn’t be more positive this time around.

Great thriller! Grabbed me from the first chapter & I devoured it in a day! I will definitely read more by Jaynes.

Daniel Winters is celebrating his life as he finally has everything he ever wanted after a bumpy road. He is sober, has a beautiful wife, Mia, up for a promotion as a partner in the Doctor's clinic he works at. Everything is going great. That is until Daniel returns from his honeymoon and settles back into work. A new drug has been announced, and the clinics have been encouraged strongly to push it onto their patients. The drug works supposedly as vaccination for the flu. The thing is this drug has been causing some harmful side effects in children, and a few have died from it. The company who created it aren't claiming they are in the wrong. What happens though when two of the doctors who have spoken against it and their families wind up dead? Is this a coincidence? Daniel sees it as random attacks at first until he starts questioning the drug when one of his youngest patients turns up dead after receiving the injection. As Daniel begins to question his work colleagues and other doctors, it looks like someone wants to shut Daniel up for good.
Meanwhile as the paranoia builds for Daniel around the drug , his wife Mia has also been lying to him. Is Daniel's honeymoon period over ? Malice had a few twists and turns and I found I enjoyed the Drug angle , but had wished maybe a bit deeper storyline with Mia's past as this side of her story could have been helped if she had only told Daniel the truth from the beginning. I feel there didn't need to be the big secrecy angle as that only caused unnecessary pain and tragedy.
As a nurse I was so interested in this book but I was highly disappointed in the ending. There was no resolution in the end which left me frustrated, not wondering what happens next. Not sure if I would read a sequel to this book.
Daniel is leading a perfect life , has a perfect job as a pediatrician ,a beachfront home in Malibu and a beautiful trophy wife Mia but soon things come crashing down.Upon returning to his practice after his honeymoon Daniel discovers his colleagues and boss aggressively pushing a drug that is not as wonderful as it seems, On top of that Daniel is pretty sure that his new wife might be having an affair
I have read a couple of Jennifer Jaynes books which I enjoyed thoroughly and this one too did not disappoint, This is a fast paced , unpredictable intense thriller which could very well occur in real life.

Dr Daniel Winters never expected to meet let alone fall in love and marry someone as beautiful as Mia. His luck seems too good to be true and maybe it is. He does not know his new wife assumed another identity to start a life with him. Certain events make him suspicious she is having an affair and he hires a private investigator to follow her movements. Under pressure he turns to alcohol to still the voice in his head and cant stop at one drink.
He is also under pressure from the clinic he practices at when they push doctors to prescribe an new drug for children advising it is completely safe. His suspicions about the safety of the drug and the ethics of other staff are confirmed after hearing reports of side effects and worse. His decision to investigate further has serious consequences. . Life can unravel very quickly if your name is Daniel Winters. Before the year is out one person will be on the run and several will be dead
This is a great story involving the wide reaching power of a large pharmaceutical company, a drug which can have a detrimental and/or life threatening effect on children and how far people will go for money. Mystery/thriller lovers will enjoy this one.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a free digital copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Oh wow. Put some time away for this book. It has all the ingredients for a terrific psychological thriller.
No spoilers from me. Book is great with lots of lies, deception, tragedy, and twists. Also, loved the unpredictable ending. Can't say enough great about this. Read it today!!
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this fabulous book.
So you think you know how a book will pan out? Think again! This keeps you guessing till the end. Loved it!
4/5 on goodreads
4 STRONG stars!
Holy wow! This was my first Jennifer Jaynes novel and it definitely won’t be my last. Can you really trust your pediatrician? Any doctor who has you or your family’s life in their hands?
When a book grabs my attention from the first page, I know it’s gonna be a heck of a ride! This book did that. In fact, it held my attention the whole time. Not once did it lag. I think one of the scariest aspects of this book was the fact that this could really happen in real life - to anyone. It’s horrifying to think that you could unknowingly be putting your children at risk by simply following doctors orders of getting them a vaccine that prevents the common cold. As things start to unravel in this story, I was anxiously turning the pages because I had to see how it all turned out in the end. I would’ve never figured out that ending in a million years.
I’m not going to get into the synopsis - actually, that isn’t how I do my reviews most of the time anyway. Just know that if you enjoy reading a book that has a ton of psychological suspense with a few twists along the way then you really need to dig into Malice. The title is perfect and truly fits what’s inside the pages!
Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for a copy to review.
