I enjoyed this book.I did have difficulty getting into it,but once I did I was glad I pushed through.Worth the read!
This is a really good book and a quick read because you can't put it down once you start. I really enjoyed this book. Thank you Kingston Books Zebra via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. This is my opinion of this book.
This book follows the unlikely drama of an Amish man caught up in some illegal activity and how it affects his family. We also follow the developing relationship of an unlikely couple. It seems to be part of a series of Christmas books following the Riehl family, but you definitely don't have to have read the others to understand and enjoy this one (I hadn't read them; just caught little bits and pieces of things that were alluded to as if we should know the entire backstory). It seems as if most of the characters have secrets to hide, but secrets eventually find their way into the public eye...and forgiveness and overcoming are big themes here. I would really love to know how the major issue within the church resolves itself, but imagine that there will be a fourth installment that tells us how that ends.
A Simple Christmas is the third installment from the Simple Gifts series. I enjoyed this sweet story. I give 4 stars.
We once again meet characters from previous books by the author. In this book, the Amish community of Willow Ridge is preparing for Christmas. Rosalyn Riehl is working in the Simple Gifts craft shop making her beautiful natural wreaths. After the death of her mother, Rosalyn, being the oldest daughter, yet to marry, and still living at home, continually receives the ire of her Old Amish Order father, who is also a Deacon in the church, for working away from home and anytime she attempts to create time and activity for herself.
“Bad boy”, Marcus Hooley, comes to town after “burning all the bridges behind him”, to see if his extended family, the Hooleys, who we have met in previous books, will help him to pursue his love of being a horse trainer and to make things better for his life. He has rejected his Amish roots and turned “English”, which makes him forbidden territory for Rosalyn, who is attracted to him.
Marcus stumbles upon information regarding Rosalyn’s father, who has been very verbal towards Marcus regarding his ill feelings about him. Eventually, things come to light that will shock all the community. How will this affect Marcus’ standing in the community, Roslyn’s attraction towards him and Rosalyn’s father’s standing in the community?
I really enjoyed this book. It is a very quick read and I highly recommend this book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Zondervan through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Each story in this book was a great read. I jus want to know what happens next in each story. Each of the letters in the book were to time consuming to read,as you have to read them from top to bottom instead of left to right, and as some words are Amish words it is hard to figure some of the words out. I finally just gave up reading the letters and just read the stories.
