Her Cowboy's Command is a quick and sexy read. I loved the characters and the close bond that Harley and Lucas share really made the story enjoyable. But as much as I love Harley and Lucas, I would love to read a story about Rigger!
This was a short steamy read telling the story of Lucas and Harley. Although predictable it delivered on what it was... a steamy novella. I wish this had been a full fledged novel and we were able to feel the slow build up between the two. It would have made the story richer and more believable. There are some noticeable grammar mistakes in this book (using the wrong word for “scene” vs “seen”) that can take you out of the story. But if you can look past this and just want a good short smutty story... this works. 3 Stars
** ARC PROVIDED BY NETGALLEY IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW **
I was truly interested to read about a cowboy Dom. Kyann Waters is a new author to me and I love getting to know new writers … to see what their style of writing is and just how well developed their story line and characters are. I enjoyed the writings of Ms. Waters and am interested in what she has in store for us in the future.
Did Lucas live up to my expectations? Yes and No. He was interesting. He was a little more broodier than I like my men in books. He wasn't the true take charge Dom that I am so used to reading. But, he did take charge when he wanted to. He was in love and had no way to telling her without revealing his secret. But, for Harley, he would hide it and try to change. She is the woman that he has wanted and knows that she will never embrace the kink that he so enjoys. Until she finds out. Now he has to find out if she can be everything that he needs or if he just walks away from the club to be everything that she needs.
Harley was a little confusing. She was smart. She was being stifled by her father. But, she also knew that his wish was for her to end up with Lucas so that he could run the ranch. She is constantly setting out to prove to her father that she can handle the job without a man by her side. Especially since the man that she wants won't even look her way. She's loved Lucas since she was a teenager but can't get him to see the woman she has grown into. But, when she needs him the most, he's not there. He's off to Austin again and she needs to find out why. What she finds is not what she was expecting. She also didn't expect the Cattleman's Club to be such a turn on.
The love that Lucas and Harley hid from each other finally shines through. It was a long journey for the both of them but I enjoyed watching them get there. I also enjoyed the way the story was told. The supporting characters were interesting if not some-what rude and brash. I loved the ranch family and how they supported each other. I proved that sometimes water is thicker than blood. So, I look forward to more from Ms. Waters and am interested to see what she offers us next.
A surprising steamy romance book from a author that is new to me. I enjoyed the characters and found myself cheering for them.
Her Cowboy's Command is closer to a novella than a novel. Though I thought it was well written, with a good premise and engaging characters, I hoped that there could have been more to the story. I would like to read more from KyAnn Waters, as I really appreciated the creative story line and the crisp dialogue. I also commend her respectful treatment of BDSM and the community. I could have used more time with her characters and I really wanted a more complex, less easy, ending.
I liked this story. It was a quick read, but the characters were well developed and their background relationship already established at the start of the book. The conflict and supporting characters worked well. The chemistry between the H&h was smoking and the reader knew they were meant to be together. The only area I would've liked developed more is the ending- his big issue/reason for not pursuing a relationship with Harley was dealt with too quickly and without the depth that I think it needed. Overall, a good story. *I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
A relatively tame erotic romance with a hot cowboy. Perfect for those readers who want just that little bit more, but not to the point of the erotica being the total storyline. Great cover art.
Harley may be the boss but Lucas plans on taking control. Steamy, entertaining read with great characters. I really liked it.
Meh. That's the best I can say for this book. It has potential, but the story never fully develops. I never felt Harley truly understood Lucas' need for control. His particular kinks are never fully explored. I didn't like the shame Lucas had about his kinks. To me, you can't build a relationship around something you are ashamed of.
The ancillary stories of Harley's mom and dad seem to take more focus than her relationship with Lucas.
Overall, I just felt the book lacked depth and cohesion. It felt like a first draft.
This was a story supposed to be about BDSM, but mainly it was about a daughter trying to prove herself to her father. It's a good story, I enjoyed it.
Excellent storyline with great characters. The secrets kept me wondering what would happen next. Really enjoyed the cowboy/cowgirl story...................Great writing.

In a word: Juicy
Lucas and Harley practically grew up together when Harley's father (Harlan) caught Lucas taking his tractor for a joy ride (Lucas was 12 and had an absent father and very young alcoholic mother); that was when Harlan decided to "adopt" Lucas as his own and gave him a job working on the cattle ranch. Harley was 10 at the time, but that didn't keep her from bossing Lucas around; not much has changed over a decade later, but now that Harlan is getting up in years, Harley is trying to assert herself more often and in more ways to show her father that she is ready to assume her legacy. Lucas doesn't have a problem with Harley being the boss on the ranch... His problem is that he has wanted her as his own for years, but he is a Dom, and Harley is far from sub material. Harley, oblivious to Lucas' preferences in the bedroom, cannot understand why Lucas denies her advances when it's clear that they are hot for each other. Will they find a way to meet in the middle, or will Lucas' need to assume total control in the sack be a "deal breaker?"
What I liked:
--- STEAMY goodness --- the chemistry between the main characters is very evident from the get-go
--- The book is relatively short (~130 pages), but because Lucas and Harley already knew each other well and things had been "smouldering" before the story began, the pace of their relationship didn't seem rushed
--- The story itself was interesting and fast-paced --- I read it in one sitting
What I didn't like as much:
--- Once Harley was introduced to Lucas' lifestyle preferences, the story wrapped up quickly; it felt like there was more (or should have been more) on that discussion/transition/negotiation/etc.
Overall, a nice, juicy read that can be knocked out in one sitting and leave you feeling satisfied :)
Plot --- 4/5
Main Characters --- 4/5
Supporting Cast --- 3.5/5
Steam Level --- 3/5
Violence --- None
Language --- Not egregious
POV --- 3rd but slanted at times in to main characters' perspectives
This was a short, easy read and a bit predictable at times. I was not really wowed by the story or the characters. I received this ARC from Netgalley and the review is all mine.
I received an arc from Netgalley. This is a Hot and steamy romance. Harley and Lucas have known each other most of their lives and have been close friends. Lucas has a secret and is determined to keep Harley from finding out his other side. Harley on the other hand is determined to prove to Lucas she can handle anything. She forces him to tell her everything and he finally realizes she loves ALL of him. Even the secrets. Tantalizing read.
This book is a fire hazard. Lucas and Harley are a danger zone. She's has control and he craves it. She may be the boss, but he holds all the cards. If seduction is the name of the game, Kyann Waters delivers.
Friends to Lovers novella
KyAnn Waters's Her Cowboy's Command is a short contemporary novella with the requisite HEA.
Lucas and Harley have been fighting their chemistry for years till it finally implodes, and they become lovers. This was a fast paced read, but I just felt like it was lacking more authenticity in its BDSM subplot. There were a few things that didn't ring true for me, like not needing a safe word, which brought my enjoyment factor down.
I received an advance reader copy via Netgalley.
Her Cowboy’s Command is a fast, emotional and engaging read that will keep you engrossed till the very end. Lucas and Harley are strong, independent characters, but the unspoken chemistry between them eventually becomes too much to ignore.
As much as Harley has always wanted Lucas to notice her as woman, she also fears the loss of her standing as the boss of the Baker Ranch. With an ailing father, Harley strives to gain recognition from her peers for the capable rancher she is, and not someone who needs a man to hold her hand.
Lucas has always loved Harley, but his respect for Harlen Baker and the home he was gifted as a troubled youth has stopped him perusing this feisty cowgirl. But things take an unexpected turn as lust finally takes hold of Lucas and Harley, and a secret life Lucas has hidden from everyone is about to be uncovered. Will the truth send the woman who owns his heart running as far and as fast as she can in any direction expect his, or will the bonds they share help them navigate the sensual, erotic side of attraction?
I hope you enjoy Lucas and Harley’s story as much as I did; she’s a firecracker and he is imposing, but adorable.
