Although, the books in this series can be read as standalones, I found reading them in order really helped understand the characters much better since McCabe has been chasing the enemy that Rowena escaped from for a while.
Rowena is such a strong heroine. She'd do anything to keep her son safe and get him back. She loves her son more than herself and is willing to risk everything to make sure he has a future. While McCabe, he's a very protective and stand up man that will do anything. Not because it's his job as a US marshal but because Rowena is important to him. He left her in the past to keep her safe but now they need each other more than ever if they're to overcome the monster threatening Rowena and take him down once and for all.
Overall, this was an entertaining read filled with twists and turns that had me reading quickly, determined to see what would happen. Would Rowena get her son back? Would McCabe finally be able to take down the bad guy? Would he and Rowena get their happy ever after? Furthermore, I really enjoyed how this story ended. McCabe is a brave man that deals well under pressure and a man that deserves happy ever after. He's fought on the side of good for so long professionally that he deserves to finally have something good happen personally.
Ryan McCabe’s past has come back to haunt him. A childhood friend that has become a sworn enemy and the woman he tried to save by leaving. The path to hell is paved with good intentions and he will do anything to protect her. Staying one step ahead and obtaining the happiness that he long denied may bring them closer to danger. Suspenseful story that will definitely keep you going.
This was book 3 in a 3 book series. I had not read the first two books, but I had no problem following the story. The story was full of suspense, mystery, action and romance. Lots of action! There were moments when I literally cringed from horror. The story was well-written and complex with great characters. I gave it 4 stars, because at the high point of the story when big confrontation happened it fell flat for me; however, it was still a great story. Plus, the epilogue held a twist that shocked me. Overall, I really enjoyed this story.
This is a book a really enjoyed and if sometimes I didn’t it was my own fault for not reading the entire series. Although you may read this one as a standalone, I felt a little torn away from the actual story and I had to dig around to see if there is more. I checked the reviews for the previous books and this is how I managed to understand what was really happening.
Rowena and McCabe are reunited by their common enemy and McCabe’s obsession. For a while now he has been hunting Mockerie. Apparently, if I had read the other books, I would have understood what kind of monster this guy was really, but I got a pretty good idea. Her need to protect her son leads her to the man who left her behind years ago. Now they both have to leave this behind and fight – for their son, for themselves.
What we have here are two very strong personalities, both determined to fight, both determined to do what it takes to win. While one has been on the run and hiding, the other has been waiting for a slip to catch the enemy. I liked them a lot, I liked their attraction, their love, their kid that connects them.
All in all, this was a story I devoured, with action that took some unexpected turns and made me wish to read the other books (even though now I am spoiled for the ending, I wouldn’t mind the ride). 4.5 stars and my love for the author and her book! Enjoy :)
This is the third book in the story but can be read as a stand alone. The author takes you on an adventure full of twists and surprise that will keep you wanting more.
Intense beginnings to try and make a better future. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat while also giving you hope of a better ending <3 These characters will pull you in as you experience a whirlwind of emotions.
This is the third book in the series and it begins with action and for the most is that way until the end. Having not read any of the other books I really did not know what expect, but was not disappointed where the action part of the story. Rowena fakes her death in order to save her son who she believes is safely hidden from her ex who she found out is not the person she thought he was. He is someone evil. Now she is hoping that she can find someone from her past Ryan McCabe who she fell in love with but broke her heart. He is also a U.S. Marshall and he is looking for her ex but for totally different reason. Thinking that she could be around him she realizes she can’t, but McCabe can’t let her go again and must help find her son and protect them. Many twist and turns some that I did not see coming. A good fast paced story though.
Dammit this is the last in the Dark Justice series! McCabe's been an elusive, enigmatic presence trugh the previous books. I just knew he was going to have an almighty back story. It's always been hinted at that he and Mockerie go waaaaay back but I was stunned at their link!
Rowena never realised that she is another bridge between Mockerie and McCabe. She went from one to the other, never realising that Mockerie saw her as another way to get back at McCabe. But having now seen him for the monster he is, she is determined to keep their son from him at all costs. Rowena thought faking her death and sending her son to safety would have done it but Mockerie is nothing if not dogged and once he realises that she is indeed alive, he won't stop until she is in his grasp once more.
She may have been devastated when McCabe left her, thinking he was protecting her, but if she allows him back into not only her life but her son's? She doesn't know if she would survive it!
Rowena has a spine of steel, even though she thinks she ruined her son's life. McCabe and Mockerie's animosity is biblical in intensity and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to the root of their hatred of each other. Would have liked an epilogue showing a glimpse f how life is now for the previous couples but otherwise I was a very happy camper with the conclusion to this series.
a nicely written romantic suspense story. Good lead characters. The plot was developed rather well and I enjoyed the book.
In her Dark Justice series, Jenna Ryan does not disappoint. These are part of a series but they work as a stand-alone. Mccabe's story is about the people in his life. Both past and present also those he’s loved and had to let go. Rowena is the one he left before he thought he would destroy her. Rowena was left behind and went looking for love and found James she thought he was a different man than he turned out to be. After discovering his dangerous side she had to get both herself and her son away from him. So she faked her death and stashed her son. Something she thought she had got away with. Until her son disappears from where she hides him. Now her only hope is to find Ryan Mccabe again and hopes he will help her. He never told her why he left one day with no word he just disappeared and left her heartbroken. Now her heart belongs to her son and she wants him back. McCabe wants to get him for her because he has spent his whole life looking over his shoulder for James. Whom he and everyone else calls Mockerie. Rowena stole information from his computer that she hopes will help her get her son back and get Mockerie in a jail where he belongs. Mc McCabe wants James in jail truth be told Rowena won't mind if he was dead. So this is an intriguing read with so many different people. Everything affects each part of the plan and each other lives. Rowena and Mccabe are still in love she knows how she feels But can't get him to even say why he left. You think you figured it out and then everything changes. I enjoyed this till the end and never saw it coming. Enjoy!!
McCabe and Rowena was previously in a relationship before she started a relationship with Mockerie. She did some stuff and then Mockerie "killed' her after telling her he was going to take there son. Joke was on him at the time since she had him hidden. However, he finds him and kidnaps him so she goes to McCabe for help/ to get something back from him to use as a bargaining chip.
I thought this book was okay. Perhaps I did need to read the previous books first...
This is the third book in this series and I found it was easy to read on its own. This is my first book by this author.
Her only hope to find her son and stay alive, is to trust US Marshal Ryan McCabe even though she hasn’t gotten over their past.
This intensely thrilling story has strong, captivating characters that grab readers’ attention and holds them hostage from the very beginning. The romance is full of obstacles, emotional turmoil, intense situations, danger and lots of heated passion. The attraction between McCabe and Rowena burns with undeniable sizzle, but the past has a strong hold on Rowena and she doesn’t know if she can forgive McCabe for what he did to her which causes some intense emotions and the readers can easily connect to their situation and their feelings in regard to what is happening not only between them but also what is happening in their world.
This thrilling and fast paced plot flows smoothly with lots of intriguing twists and turns, betrayals and exciting action as McCabe and Rowena try to unravel their enemy’s world and stop him while getting Rowena’s son back from his kidnapper. The story is a bit convoluted and readers really have to pay attention to keep up with all the twists and turns, but readers won’t have a dull moment and might find themselves biting their nails in anticipation of what might happen next.
This is the final book in the Dark Justice series. This is the one that we finally get McCabe's story. You don't have to read the previous books in order to read this one. I only recommend it so you can understand how bad Mockerie truly is and why Rowena is trying to protect her son from him. This book gives us the story of exactly why McCabe is after Mockerie. Rowena faked her death in order to get away from him and keep her son safe. But now he has her son and she needs help to get him back. McCabe walked away from Rowena years before to keep her safe. But now she is back and and one the run from the monster he has been hunting for years. He will do what he must to keep her safe and take him down once and for all.
I really liked Rowena and how strong she was. She is willing to do anything (including die) in order to keep her son safe from a monster of epic proportions. McCabe has issues and seemed to be at times to have a death wish. But he is still a stand up man who will protect the people he cares about at the expense of himself if necessary. And that twist!! I was definitely not expecting that! Parts of it were kinda slow for me, which is why I only rated 4 stars. But on a whole I definitely liked it. I only wish that the other books and characters were a little more interconnected. And that there was something to show how they all are doing afterwards.
McCabe is the 3rd and final book in the series, I would recommend reading them in order for the best enjoyment. McCabe left Rowena behind to save her but now she has dropped back in his life. Both have been through a lot can they work together and find a future with each other. This is a fast-paced read with loads of suspense and drama. The twists and turns keep you on the edge of your seat. I really liked it.
When I first read this I was expecting it to be something similar to other books I have read like this but this one took a different direction. It has a lot of action and intense parts which really made it worth reading. I did like the twist to it about James and Ryan’s connection. That took me for a 180. But make sure you read this one. I really liked it and I know you will too. Jenna put a lot of details into it and that is what made you see everything clearly. I recommend reading this one absolutely.
Oh the intrigue. Filled with numerous twists and turns it keeps the reader guessing and still manages to pull out big surprises at the end. There are steamy kisses and a HEA. Some of the characters are real oddballs that add to the enigma of the story.
McCabe is the third and final book in the Dark Justice series. Even though the author tried to keep each of these books as standalone reads, I think anyone who reads this one before the prior two will feel lost. This story wraps up the single common thread that's been developed throughout the series. There are a ton of twists and turns to the story, some I never saw coming. Rowena and McCabe have a painful past but when it comes to her son's safety Rowena knows she needs to suck it up and ask for McCabe's help. That fact that she's running from the man McCabe has been tracking for years solidifies the deal. Can Rowena really trust McCabe now?
This is a great action filled book that I think everyone will enjoy. I recommend it.
Okay
While an interesting story line and concept that kept you guessing it was completely engaging for me. I kept going out of curiosity and was surprised at the ending but it felt like it took forever to get there.
I voluntarily read an advanced copy.
Just who is McCabe? Mystery man to be sure. How is Mockerie connected.to McCabe? How is Rowena connected to both of them? Questions, questions, questions! Good build up between all the main characters with a little love thrown in! How will it end? Only way to find out is to read this interesting book!
I received an arc of this book from netgalley for a honest opinion.
This story had mystery, suspense and action and I was pulled in from the start. Thanks to an intriguing prologue and the events that happen in the first couple of chapters.
And with great characters and an underlying tension and chemistry that bubbled along nicely, it was easy to stay hooked throughout. Plus, there were plenty of twists, shocks and surprises along the way and I would definitely read more from this series and author in the future.
