I absolutely loved this book.

Up In Flames actually had me laughing out loud which is pretty rare for a book. The most I'll usually get is a smile but I was actually cracking up reading this book. Jennifer Blackwood is now one of my new favorite authors.

I also really enjoyed the premise. I'm also very skeptical of cliche story lines that relate to athletes or rich men, men in uniform etc. I find that a lot of the time their job is what makes them alluring in the books and is a big driving force of the attraction instead of the actual character. So this was a nice change of pace where we learn more about the character and his vulnerabilities. Both characters were able to have real emotional depth and real chemistry.

I also really enjoyed the MC, she was sassy and sensitive and was a nice character to read through. Her personality and story line was as important as the male counterpart and I really enjoyed reading about her and her friends as well.

Overall this was a great book and while it isn't necessarily unique to the contemporary romance genre, it is definitely one that stands out for it depth and individuality and I will definitely be reading more by Jennifer Blackwood.

Up in Flames by Jennifer Blackwood is the second book in the Flirting with Fire series but can me read as a standalone. I am new to this series and thoroughly enjoyed !

Reece Jenkins is almost the complete package, muscles ✔ tattoos ✔ firefighter ✔ volunteer ✔ his problem is that he's given up on love. After having his heartbroken by the girl he thought was the one he decides to stick with one night stands and no strings attached. Sloan Garcia is a caring Nurse Practitioner who spends her down time volunteering at her local animal shelter. From her blue hair alone you know she has a big personality that's fun. Even though she is finally out of a long term relationship that completely failed she still has hope she finds love.

Reece and Sloan have known each other since high school, she's his sisters best friend. They were always cordial with each other until one night when Sloan has too much to drink. She comes onto Reece and the only thing he can think to do to diffuse the situation is to say she's completely not his type. Ever since then they have become enemies, and Sloan can't stand to be in the same room as him. When the opportunity arises for Sloan to buy him at the annual firefighter action charity event she decides it will be the best revenge to have him at her mercy for a whole month. Reece didn't realize how much he craved Sloan till he's stuck spending so much time with her, and he has to decide if he's ready to explore it as more than a one night stand. Sloan doesn't trust her physical reactions to Reece and doesn't want to be another notch in his bedpost. With Sloans tasks and interference from their friends they manage to move from enemies to friends to a lot more.

Overall this was a great enemy to lovers romance. It had plenty of sexual tension, smoking hot firefighters, and playful banter. I am looking forward to reading more of Jennifer Blackwoods books in the future.

I enjoyed this book. Having read the first in the Flirting with Fire series, I was couldn’t wait to read Sloane and Reece’s story. Jennifer did not disappoint. All grown up, Sloane is hoping Reece will see her as more than his best friends’ little sister. But Reece has told her in the past he doesn’t want her, even if she was the last woman on earth. Way to go Reece. To get revenge, she wins him in an auction and is now hers to do four favors in four weeks. The result is a laugh out loud story, with ups and downs, they realize they need to work hard to find their Happily Ever After.

I am so DISSAPOINTED!

I DNF at 40% I LOVED the first book in this series, But this one, man it was push and pull push and pull until I quit, I couldn't do it. The characters pissed me off to much to look at how good the witting was or that it was one of favourite tropes.

Reece and Sloane have history he is best friends with her brother They grew up together and they bitch and carry on like siblings but is there something more going on between them that neither will admit We have met them in a previous book in this series and now we het their story.

The banter between the two of them had me laughing out loud quite a few times and when Sloane has control of Reece for four weeks you just know she will make his life hell. Over all a great fun romance that I thoroughly enjoyed

Sloane and Reece have a way with words when they are bickering and verbally going after each other. It's almost like foreplay. The problem is that it seems like they don't know how to stop. When they finally do work through their drama the chemistry has a wow factor to it.

This #UpInFlames ARC provided by #NetGalley

This was the first novel that I have read by Jennifer Blackwood. Her writing technique was strong and the story was lighthearted and amusing. However, other than this being your typical “hate to love” romance story, the plot was underdeveloped. I would have liked to see more development within the storyline itself. The reader was set up to become invested in the arson and investigation situation but the storyline failed to develop. Perhaps with this being a series, it was to be a prologue into the next book, however, it failed on several levels. It made the entire novel feel anticlimactic.

If you are a fan of enemy to lover romance and can overlook the lack of a developed plot, then I can recommend this book. Personally, there are too many other books in this genre that provide intricate plot lines. 2 stars.

This is the second book in this series. I have to say I loved Sloane and Reece together. They had so much chemistry together but they both chose to ignore that and just plain disliked each other. Sloane bought him at an auction … 4 weeks – 4 favors. Seeing what Sloane decides on next to torture Reece was very entertaining. Seeing how Reece dealt with each favor she asked of him was even more entertaining. This book was so funny in parts it had me laughing out loud. As the book progressed you could see the feelings shifting and you kept praying that they would give in. Both Sloane and Reece are very stubborn people. I absolutely loved this book. It kept me reading late into the night. I found it to be hot, frustrating and funny all at the same time. I can’t wait until the next book in this series. Thanks Net Galley. I voluntarily reviewed this book in exchange for an honest review.

I've been in love with Jennifer Blackwood's other books so I was looking forward to this one. Unfortunately, it missed more than it hit. The push/pull between the hero and heroine was too much for me. The constant insulting and poking at each other lost its fun. I ended up not liking the characters enough because it was so long until I saw some sort of emotional attraction (physical was covered). It was also a long time before I realized Reese didn't mean what he said to her, but it had already left an impression. The absolute best was Peaches, Blake Shelton, and the outfits. Loved, loved, loved it and it kept remind me why I love her writing. I'm ready for the next story...

2.75 Stars
Friends to Lovers. Slow Burn. Firefighter Auction.

On one hand, I really liked the book and then on the other - I didn't.
First, let me just say I'm not a huge fan of slow burns or too much push and pull during a story. There I said it.
Unfortunately for me, that was a huge part of this book. The blurb intrigued me and I was really excited to start this book. (Hot firefighters anyone?) As the story played out though the push and pull was just too much for me, and I found myself bored and skimming the book.
I do NOT want my preference of the slow burn to persuade anyone from not trying this book. Different strokes for different folks. This was my first book by Jennifer Blackwood and I promise it won't be my last. I liked her writing style and how she can draw you into the story.

If you like slow burns - then buy this book!

Well, I'm glad I don't live in America. The book opens with the hero attending a fire call and getting shot in the shoulder when he bangs on the door and doesn't stand far enough to one side. His boss, the chief, holds him responsible for this, he should have known better and has only got himself to blame for being injured. What an awful way to live, to have the threat of being shot is so commonplace as to need to have the police attend a call out to keep everyone safe!

Reece Jenkins is the firefighter in question. A modern-day Cassanova, he's slept his way through the local nurse population. All apart from Nurse Practitioner Sloane, who also happens to be his younger sister's best friend. Slone and Reece have a difficult relationship. They have known each other for years and while Reece used to have feelings for Sloane, the animosity between them seems to have killed them off. One drunken night Sloane asked Reece to take her to bed, he rejected her, not wanting to take advantage of her drunken state, but didn't do it in a particularly chivalrous way. She now hates him and is out for revenge.

When Sloane gets the opportunity to extract four favours from Reece, she sets out to get all she can. Of course, the more time that they spend together the hotter things become.

I really liked both Sloane and Reece. There was obvious chemistry between them from the beginning. I did wish that they'd both just talked though. It's one of those catch 22 problems with many romance novels. If the hero and heroine actually just talked, then there would be a lot smoother ride, but of course, there would then be no story.

There is something that almost keeps them apart at the end of the book. I would like to think that he would come around without her fixing things, because it was a mistake, not being malicious that caused it. Everything works out in the end though and we get our happily ever after.

I really enjoyed this book and would be keen to read more in the series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

First time reader of Ms.Blackwood, and I definitely be a repeat reader! Let me start by saying I am not generally an enemies to lovers reader, but this book... may have just changed my mind.

First I could picture Reece, our flawed, I mean flawed hero, and Sloane, she has just as many issues. After a drunken night a year ago, Reece and Sloane (who have grown up together) are no longer speaking. It’s bad. Then the auction happens and Sloane decides to get revenge. From there the book had me yelling at the characters, laughing out loud (no joke seriously, I will never look at Blake Shelton the same again), and cheering. Peaches and Reece were a hoot!

I enjoyed this book. My only draw back isi felt the little bit of drama at the end was unnecessary and really didn’t add anything to the book.

I could not put this book down. A bunny firefighter and a smart ass woman. Loved it! I do wish the author would have tied up the side plot a little more, or a lot more.

Up in Flames, by Jennifer Blackwood is a contemporary romance focused on family and relationships, along with humor and romance.

Due to an unforgettable evening for all the wrong reasons, Sloane Garcia despises Reece Jenkins, and she's ready for payback. During a firefighter charity auction, Sloane purchases Reece to help her with four unknown wishes or tasks (of her choosing) over the next several weeks. Her first required task is entertainingly sweet! However, she's determined for revenge with the tasks (while inwardly fighting her attraction), yet Sloane doesn't realize that Reece's job is on the line. Of course, he's also secretly attracted to her!

Both characters are dealing with internal struggles in their potential romantic relationships, as well as Reece dealing with management issues corresponding with his firefighting job. Throughout the story, Sloane is self-conscious and hesitant with her self-worth. This entertaining book is packed with humor and heart.

Even though it's the second book in the Flirting with Fire series, it's easily read as a standalone. Up in Flames is geared towards contemporary romance fans.

The first few chapters were a great way to draw in the reader but chapter 4, it got to be so much childish back and forth between Reese and Sloane. The book seemed to lose it focuse on second chance at love between Reese and Sloane we are stuck in the middle of a childish disagreement that seems to go on chapter after chapter after chapter. While the auction was an interesting way to bring them together it just needed more and less bickering. The dog was super cute and it was a great way to Reese outside of the firehouse and the Roomba scene was short but funny.

Frienemies! That's Reece and Sloane! Hopefully you read book 1 of the Flirting with Fire series and met Reece and Sloane then. Reece is Jake's best friend and fellow firefighter. Reece is also the brother of Jake's fiancee Erin. And then Erin is best friends with Sloane. So you see, this is a group that interacts a lot, are close and when Reece is a jerk to Sloane it's kind of a big deal. Tension, antics and romance send this book Up In Flames.

Sloane and Reece are absolutely terrible to one another. I can't blame Sloane as Reece has been a major jerk (ok, he has good enough reasons but still!) In a ploy to get back at Reece, Sloane takes him off the the auction block to be her boy toy- 4 weeks and 4 wishes. Reece is under the gun to do his chores well as his chief is scrutinizing his every move.

The times they spend together it becomes obvious- well except to them- that these two have chemistry off the charts- UP IN FLAMES! Convincing not only themselves and each other that they are more than frienemies might not be easy, but it's very entertaining to read! Love this couple!
