Seemed very promising, too bad the copy I received was illegible beyond the first chapter. I particularly liked the style of illustrations.
I received a copy through Netgalley.
A great book for kids, with a vast array of the gods stories all beautifully illustrated.A good addition to any historical bookshelf.
I thought this would be interesting in the beginning but I quickly lost passion in this book and felt that it would be better for a different reader.
Many books have been written for children retelling the stories of the great Greek myths. This book deserves a welcome place on that shelf. Each God or Goddess is introduced with a paragraph stating their Latin name, their parents, their appearance, character traits and role. The stories are told in a lively manner that demonstrates the human qualities of the gods; they can be jealous, have affairs, go to war, fight with their siblings, etc. The illustrations are lovely and have a painterly quality. If you or your child wants to know more about mythology, take a look at this appealing book.
If you are into Greek Mythology I would recommend you pick up this book. The illustrations are really well done and as you would imagine the Gods to look like. From Zeus to Atalanta. You will find the story of them all here. My favorite is Poseidon. The beginning of the book has a map of them and how they are intertwined. This would be a very good book for anyone researching Greek Mythology for a report as it is easy to read and understand.
I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
The stories of the Greek/Roman gods are retold in this beautifully illustrated book. The stories are pretty familiar territory for people interested in mythology, however the art makes this book a treasure.
This was a great book for children to learn more about mythology, Perfect for Percy Jackson fans that want to learn more about the characters they are reading about.
This is a beautifully illustrated introduction to Greek Mythology. Readers will be drawn in with the beautiful artwork and will find some in-depth and fascinating stories within the pages. Apart from the illustrations, there is not a lot to distinguish this title from the other mythology books out there, so if your collection already has other Greek mythology titles, this might not be necessary. However, the illustrations are sure to attract the eye, and might entice a patron or customer to choose this book.
This book is a fun, colorful and attractive way to introduce kids(even adults) to mythology. It's comprehensive informative and short. I can imagine placing it in the receiving area for everyone to see, breeze through and enjoy. It's a lovely book that everyone family should have for bedtime stories. I can imagine turning the pages already and appreciating the story and the art..
This is a very lovely and informative book.
It doesn't shy away from the less 'nice' aspects of greeky mythology in the text or illustrations - which I appreciate - and is still beautiful to look at. It's the kind of book that you might not read from beginning to end multiple times, but that you'd just like to have standing on your shelf to pull out and leaf through from time to time.
There are greek gods and heroes featured that most people might know of, but also a few I didn't know before or at least didn't read much about before (and there're a few I would have liked to see in it that weren't part of the book, but trying to get all the stories in one book might be too much).
I enjoyed the last part about Atalanta the most, since that's one of the mythological figures that I feel not many people know about, although it's a long and interesting story.
Mortals and Immortals of Greek Mythology is a book translated from French about the very basics of Greek mythology. The writing was lovely and flowed together very nicely considering it was translated. The artwork was BREATHTAKING and really the only reason I enjoyed this as much as I did. I knew all of the information that was presented so I was bored during some parts since I knew everything but I think this was a really fun introduction to Greek myths especially for kids since things are simplified.
This is a great introduction to Greek mythology for children. The stories were not too long but still contained enough information. The illustrations also helped draw interest in the stories.
Funny, intelligent with lovely illustrations! I liked how the Greek mythology was portrayed here and even the funny comments.
The illustrations in this little book of mythology are beyond beautiful. I wanted to search each page for all of the gorgeous details of each mortal and immortal’s story.
The stories themselves were good as well, but not overly detailed or enlightening. A good basis of Greek mythology, but it’s really the illustrations that kept me excited to keep turning pages.
A stylized version of the famous myths. Each character has their story told in prose on a colorful background, while illustrations paint the edges. They’re kinda Avant Garde, but some are delightful. The stories are not quick teasers, but take up a few pages of small script.
Hera is drawn as a redhead, which kinda figures, considering her temper.
One of my favorite drawings features Zeus looking annoyed. It’s small and easy to miss, but all the more impressive because of it; the details are exquisite.
Demeter in the wheat field looks amazing.
The story of Helen is told kinda funny, and the drawings add to it. Of course Aphrodite is always naked, and had no doubt she’d win. Atalanta is a story less told, but just as entertaining, as long as you don’t mind downer endings.
3.5 pushed up to 4/5
Mortals And Immortals Of Greek Mythology is ment to give children a little insight in who is who in Greek mythology with the help of both lovely illustrations and easy to follow short descriptions and stories around the characters. The cover gives you a perfect example of what the illustrations are like, and this beautiful style is used throughout to show us both the characteristics of each mortal and immortal described as well as illustrating the stories themselves. Wonderful to look at and educative at once: this handy and interesting guide will be an entertaining journey for both young and old. Confuse the different Gods and how they relate? Heard about some story or character before, but not sure about the details? Mortals And Immortals Of Greek Mythology will take away those doubts while also giving you a wonderful reading experience.
Absolutely beautiful drawings that accompany wonderful storytelling of Greek gods and heroes. The art is amazing to look at. Filled with pages of full-sized drawings, this book appeals greatly to the eye and provides a fun way to read into Greek mythology. This is a perfect gift for those who are interested in learning about Greek Mythology or just adore beautiful pages of drawings.
Unique and fun artwork, written in an approachable and enjoyable manner. Visually pleasing layout, too. Whether or not you're new to Greek mythology, this book is worth a reading for the art alone.
Wow, a brilliant book! Loved the illustrations and the way all the Olympians were described with brevity. A must read for Greek mythology enthusiasts and for kids interested in illustrated works.
I’m becoming even more mythology-savvy now, especially on the Greek side of things, because of the beautifully illustrated and info-rich Mortals and Immortals of Greek Mythology.
Twelve gods atop Olympus are revealed with all of their secrets —even the most amazing ones — in this sumptuous guide to Greek gods and goddesses. Highly recommended for young readers and adults too!
