This cute story is full of over the top promposals, a secret friendship, and growing that friendship into something more.
Alex and Bailey have secretly been friends for months since he went through her line at one of her jobs. He's a rich, popular, athlete. She's poor, a loner, and obsessed with film. Their friendship is pretty special, they spend a ton of time together, but no one around them knows about it. Until Bailey asks Alex to help her ask someone else to prom and plan an elaborate promposal. Then there's no more hiding just how he feels about her.
This book was adorable and I couldn't put it down. I loved the friendship between Alex and Bailey. I missed the first book in this series but I'm definitely planning on checking it out!!

AHHHHH!! I. LOVED. IT! As always - any Entangled Crush novel, I'm always going to be obsessed with. But Bailey and Alex? I really have no words. I loved it. I loved it. I loved it. I loved them. I loved them soooo much.
Bailey - I really loved how hard working and determined she was. Working two jobs, following her passion for film, just everything. I really enjoyed seeing her so happy at the end of the novel, because in a way I just really felt like she deserved it?
And Alex? I really did enjoy reading along as he played an almost Cyrano de Bergerac role, planning on asking Bailey, but then ending up helping her prompose to another guy instead, because he thinks that that's what she wants. Wow. What a great guy though. I really loved that he ended up with someone like Bailey.
Something really small, but I also loved seeing Nora and Eli from The First Kiss Hypothesis pop up in the book. It's something tiny, but I really enjoyed the reminder of their lovely story too.
But yeah, overall, I really loved this novel. The romance is so sweet and something that I don't think I'll ever get sick of.
NB: I received an ARC of this novel from Entangled via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
I really enjoyed this YA romance.
Bailey and Alex are likeable characters that felt like real teenagers. I think the story really benefited from having dual narration. Getting to see inside both their heads helped to keep the story moving at a good pace.
I really hope we get a book with Caleb/Tex!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the first book that I've read from this Author.
Each book can be read as a standalone.
Alex and Bailey have this secret friendship going on. Alex is the school's star Lacrosse Player and a player off the field. He's popular, money, girls drool & want him, gets what he wants, and what he wants is fun and no strings.
Bailey is a good girl, studies hard, works two jobs to save for NYU to study film, keep her crap car and keep her phone plan.
With all the time they spend together they both develop feelings for each other. But in true teen drama there's mixed signals.
"This could be as far as we go. Secret friends with no future."
"I'm Alex Koviak - happy to match up my friends, but me, I need to be free."
So Bailey thinking that there's no chance of her and Alex she asks for his help to ask another guy to Prom. Alex, who's more than happy, but not happy to help.
Do they go Prom with other people?
Do they go to Prom together?
Or maybe they don't go at all......
I enjoyed reading this one but it definitely made me happy to be well past my prom days. All the pressure of prom-posals seem to take all the fun out of things but I digress. This story is about Alex "Kov" Koviak and Bailey Banfield. They have a secret away from school friendship. Outwardly it seems that Alex has it all while Bailey seems to have to work twice as hard for everything but they know each other well and see the true person under the exterior trappings. When Bailey asks Alex for help with her project he agrees but he has no idea the effect it will have on him. Alex soon learns that material things aren't really the most important thing in life.
I felt this book was very well done. I enjoyed watching the relationship between Alex and Bailey change and mature as the story went on. I'd recommend this one.
I really enjoyed The First Kiss Hypothesis when I read it last year, so I was pretty excited to be offered an ARC of Love and Other Secrets. And I'll admit it -- this book was pretty cute. I read it over about three hours and had a great time. So why three stars? It all comes down to my personal preferences.
Let me start with the characters. I loved Bailey. She was driven, determined, and just feisty enough without being over-the-top. I loved Alex. While he initially came off as a spoiled jock, he slowly revealed a softer side, especially when it came to Bailey. I loved their friendship! Please give me a friendship like this where we can watch movies together all the time. What I didn't love was how they forgot how to communicate. I mean, you guys were friends, right? Presumably you've had a lot of conversations. One feeling gets involved and you forget how to speak? I don't think so.
The other thing I want to talk about is the promposals. First of all, I have never seen the word "promposal" so many times in my life as I did in this book. I'm revealing my true self as an old woman when I say that 11 years ago when I attended my one and only prom, my friend just walked up to me and said, "Hey, Sara, do you want to be my prom date?" and that was that. Soooo romantic. If I'm remembering correctly, I think one girl's car got covered in Post Its that all said "Prom?" but that was the extent of it at my tiny high school. Sometimes I'm glad that I'm old.
This is, when it comes down to it, a pretty cliche friends-to-lovers story. Misunderstandings abound, they're afraid to talk about their feelings, nobody wants to make the first move, so on and so forth. There's an unexpected midnight kiss (not a spoiler, it's right there in the synopsis) and both characters stubbornly refuse to talk about it. I'm actually fine with cliches in my romances as long as it's worth it in the end. The thing is, I'm not really sure that I bought that ending.
So, in the end, this was a fun book that was a good use of a few hours. I would happily recommend it to someone looking for a cute (but angsty) YA romance, but not for someone who's looking for anything deeper than that.
Honestly, this one had a lot of potential for me but ultimately missed the mark. I love the friends to lovers trope but there was something missing from this one. The first chapter starts and I immediately feel like I’ve been dropped into the middle of the novel with no information. Alex is talking about wanting to ask Bailey to prom, but I had no idea who these characters were, or how their friendship even started or progressed. While you start to piece together more information as the story moves forward, I still could not connect with these characters. There were definitely some cute parts in the book, especially if you love promposals. But, unfortunately, this one just didn’t work for me.

I really didn't like Love and Other Secrets. I thought it was going to be my jam. A hidden friendship turned romance - yes, please! But everything fell short for me. Then the protagonist was enjoyable most of the time, but both were so indecisive. And maybe because I don't live in the US but the thought of a massive promposable makes my stomach turn and flip like crazy. I am shy as it goes and the thought of someone asking me, or I asked them this way - oh gosh. The writing also wasn't my favourite and lacked a little push.

Yeah, I didn't make it far. I was so excited because this book sounds so cute. But, I feel like it throws us into the story and there wasn't enough background information given to me. We finally learn how they became friends, but it felt so simple to me and why is it they don't tell anyone else they are friends??
I know this book focuses on Prom, but wow... it was a bit too much for me. I was overwhelmed. Also, who seriously takes a freshman to prom? Because it sounds like Alex has gone all three previous years and the way it is written makes it sound like so many more times than that. Perhaps I misunderstood and all dances are given these types of hullabaloo.
The asking... I get it. We had a few outlandish ones at my school, but nothing super huge.
We also haven't heard anything yet about Bailey's friends, so I'm under the impression she doesn't have any? It was a bit strange to me.
Super cute concept, it just really didn't work for me.
This was a sweet read that I really enjoyed. I had a lot of fun reading this story. I loved that there were some emotional and angsty parts as well. Great YA story. I definitely look forward to reading more from this author.
Love and Other Secrets was a delightful story about Alex and Bailey who are secret friends. Their friendship blossoms with fun movie night, slow dances and adorable banter. Soon they find themselves in the mist of planning and receiving prom-posals from everyone but who they want. I loved Alex. He's seriously swoon worthy and adorable. I couldn't read this book fast enough, it's so charming!
The book is light and cute and fluffy like we expect from all YA contemporary romances. But the stakes or conflict never felt interesting enough for me to root for the characters. I also wish the development of their initial friendship was done better because that might have made me connect to them more.
Overall, I recommend this book if you like the usual YA high school stories.
Love and Other Secret tells the love story of Alex and Bailey. He, the popular and famous lacrosse player of the school, she a girl in love with cinema that needs to make a video about the promposals.
Alex is determined to ask Bailey to go with him but the girl can not imagine his intentions and as she knows he does not want anything serious with anyone, she decides to aks a new gentleman student who came from Texas. The problem is that she asks Alex to help in this challenge and he agrees.
I loved the couple so very much and I was anxious to know how everything was going to end when Alex would dare call Bailey and if Bailey could ask Caleb to go with her.
I need to say that Alex is so so so sweet that I'm in love with him.
I loved the movie that inspired the plot and the fun way that the writer created a story of teenage so light and fun and romantic.
This is a cute and sweet book.
Alex is a great character and Bailey is a great counterpoint.
I do think this book is a little young for me, more suited to a teen audience rather than anyone older than that.
The story is solid, with a heap of drama which keeps things interesting, but ultimately a little young for me.
here's the thing, i loved this book. alex and bailey are 100% perfect for each other, and a huge part of that is their incredible friendship. their problem is that they keep too much to themselves. the failure to communicate in love and other secrets is spectacular.
it's so frustrating. because they keep talking at cross-purposes and assuming the wrong thing, and i blame this a little more on bailey than alex who is a stupid boy in love with his best friend and as a stupid boy already starts with a handicap when it comes to communicating. but bailey keeps assuming she knows what he's going to say and says the worst possible thing all the time. honestly, it's a wonder these two get past it because the all the cross-talk is seriously super stressful.
but they are such great characters. so even though alex is a completely stupid boy and bailey is a crazy insecure girl they absolutely belong together and when they get it right it's so delightful. also, alex's parents are the worst and i feel like there wasn't enough acknowledgment about how terrible they were and that his bad behavior was a symptom of their abandonment and neglect. like when they finally try it's way too late and a little bit too over the top. because they'd basically left a seventeen-year-old to parent himself and lost the right to be actual parents, at least morally speaking.
**love and other secrets will publish on september 3, 2018. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/entangled publishing (crush) in exchange for my honest review.
Love and Other Secrets by Christina Mandeleski a five-star read that will make you breathe deep to your toes and smile. This was my first read by this author and I am certain I will go back and read her other books, there was a sweet romance to this story that kept me hooked. Bailey Banfield is a busy little creature, she has her future all mapped out and is working very hard to ensure she can get those goals, working hard at school and then two jobs to help her achieve her goals after that means there isn’t a lot of time for anything else, that made me sad at first as it seemed like Bails was living too much in the future and not enough in the now. But a meet cute in the express aisle of one of her jobs means that she starts living in the now, even if it is in secret as little nerdy Bailey can’t be friends with one of the most popular boys in school, Lacrosse star Alex “Kov” Koviak can she? This story was filled with some sweet moments and some hilarious moments as well, throw in some great movie quotes and some drama and some Moovelous moments and you have a great story on your hands. This was a great story and I am sure I will be looking for more from this author and also from Entangled publishing as they have both brought me a great story, so thank you both.
This was a read I didn't even realize I really needed. Perfect for my mood at the time. This was true fluff. Not the bad kind of fluff but the Marshmallow Fluff kind. Ooey, gooey, and super sweet that you keep wanting to dip into with your spoon fluff. I loved Alex and Bailey's POVs. The story had humor (omg the cow) and some sweet, romantic moments that neither really quite got what they were. Both were clueless but made a great couple. I need to read the first one NOW!
I received Love and Other Secrets by Christina Mandelski from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This has no impact on my review. My thoughts are my own.
I have a hard time getting into prom books now mostly because I'm getting older and each year certain young adult stuff just isn't my thing anymore. For me it's prom stuff because I feel like I can't relate to the excitement of that. I always liked the after party in high school better than the actual prom anyway. I put this book down the first time because of this reason, I just didn't see myself being able to relate to it at all because of the age difference and just not getting the hype of it.
I quickly warmed up Alex and Bailey though and their friendship. They were pretty much from two different social classes in high school but they ended up being secret friends anyway mostly because Alex wanted to keep her to himself and because Bailey worked late and she went over to his house after work a lot. Their friendship was basically a night time friendship, but I pretty much like anything that is secretive/forbidden. I liked the rotating chapters and how believable it ended up being for me.
The prom plot ended up being cute and not overbearing to me. I don't think promposals were a big deal when I was in high school, but maybe that's because I didn't exactly hang out with the party kids... my high school was also relatively small too. They were nice to read about though. I liked the whole Caleb/Bailey plot even though I was a bit worried about it at first.
The misgivings I had with the book were just the beginning because I wasn't sure it'd be my type of book after all, and the drama that happened towards the middle of the book. The pace was fast and I like that moment when I'm able to get sucked into the book. The rating is a four star read and I'd definitely recommend it for those looking for books about prom and high school romance or spring time young adult books.
Thank you Netgalley and publishers for giving me the chance to read this book.
This book delivered on everything it promised, especially the promposal aspect, which I personally found to be a little too much. What it didn't deliver was something new. It all seemed a little cliched and predictable, the characters drowning in their archetype characteristics.
However, this is a cute and angsty romance story, and I'm a sucker for romance. The POVs were executed well-enough, and the overall writing was fluid. It was a quick read, and I was on the hunt for such a book today.
Ms. Mandelski slayed this one.
Although, a bit slow towards the end, the promposal is SUPERB!!
I love Alex and Bailey!!!😍😄👍🏻
I hope you reserve the best for Caleb!💕💕💕 (I'm so excited for this guy..)
