I started this book three times and really struggled to get in to it. I found the first few chapters weren't particularly gripping however once I'd powered through I found it full of suspense.

3.5 stars.

I loved The Proposal I read this in a day I just had to keep on reading to find out what would happen next. Great twists and turns throughout and another great book by S. E. Lynes.

This book gripped me from the beginning. The words "dear reader, if you are reading this" sets the tone of a very thrilling book, and I didn't see the ending coming!

The Proposal by SE Lynes is such a twisty read! I was hooked from the first line of the synopsis: "The first thing you should know, dear reader, is that I am dead…" Thankfully, the story was just as incredible! I definitely recommend it to suspense lovers.

An amazing gripping thriller that twisted and turned throughout. I thoroughly recommend it. It's so smooth and well written with the cliche of a thrilling page-turner. A natural story-teller. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture.

An interesting read that had me curious from the beginning. A stranger that knocks on her door one evening... and she invites him in... only to be unable to get him out of her life? I mean that's creepy right? It sure had my interest from the very beginning.

I enjoyed reading the dynamics between the two main characters in this novel. Who is this strange man that comes knocking on her door, and why won't he seem to leave her alone? She seems intrigued by him but on the other hand, she is wary of him.

An interesting read for sure.

This book was compared to several other extremely popular books, but I just don’t think it lives up to that hype.

The unique structure of The Proposal made this one a difficult read for me. The story is told through journal and blog entries, even audio files, and the action isnt linear, which was tough for me to follow. I must say that there were many twists, and the complexity of the story contributed to the suspense. The main characters are not likeable, which isnt necessary to my enjoyment of a book, but coupled with my plot confusion, my dislike made The Proposal not quite my favorite.
I received my copy through NetGalley under no obligation.

The Proposal started off with our main character, Pippa, in a jam with her latest book. She owes her editor an outline at the very minimum, but doesn't even have an idea for a story. After pushing the deadline off several times, she knows she has to turn something in. When a traveling salesman shows up at her door, she gets a glimpse into his troubled past, and thinks his life story would be a great idea for her next novel...thus, The Proposal is born. She offers to pay him for his life story, but she gets to use it for her book.

When Ryan agrees, Pippa thinks all of her problems are solved, until Ryan starts acting a little strangely. She finds it hard to get him to leave her house, but thinks everything will be fine. The beginning of the book started off great, and really held my interest. I was interested to learn more about Ryan's backstory, and see how everything played out, given his creep factor.

Unfortunately, I found the middle of the book lacking. I felt like the plot was progressing slowly up until the end, where things got really good again. For some reason, it just wasn't holding my attention, and I found my mind wandering. This might have been because I disliked both of our lead characters, so I was less invested in them until something big was happening.

I struggled rating this one, because I really enjoyed the beginning and ending of the book, and also enjoyed the format, in that it was told partly through blog posts, which is something I always enjoy. There was enough good in the book that I landed on a solid three star rating. If you're a fan of domestic thrillers with elements of stalking, and flawed main characters, you may want to give this one a shot. I'd like to thank Bookouture for my copy of the book. It was my pleasure to provide an honest review.

An enjoyable, if a little far fetched thriller. SE Lynes writes a fantastic thriller, gripping and compelling you with a need to finish the complete book in one sitting,

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

I spent most of the time reading this book and actually thinking I didn't like it. It was probably the strangest book I have read in a long time. I kept wanting to stop reading, convinced that I wasn't interested in how it all panned out but something kept me reading until the end.

I am so glad I persevered. This book was obviously a slow burner but , whilst it reaches a fantastic conclusion, it never ramps up to true thriller proportions. Somehow, I still enjoyed the ride.

A chilling, highly intriguing thriller that i found extremely hard to put down. The Proposal focuses on struggling author Pippa who, close to deadline and in dire need of inspiration, invites a stranger into her home.

Ryan seems kind and genuinely charming; a man who took a wrong turn in life and wants to make amends. But Pippa soon learns that charming doesn't necessarily make you trustworthy...

This is a brilliantly addictive read, one of the best thrillers I've read in a long time. I'm already looking forward to more from this author.

Another wonderful read by an author who has mastered the rules of suspense, and uses them to scare the bejesus out of us!

A book written in diary and blog extracts is always something I gravitate towards. I enjoyed this about the book but he plot fell flat for me. I never really like books where I know the protagonist is already dead because even though there is so much more to learn about them and characters around them, I find it just gives far too much away.
I didn't connect with this book in the way I would have liked.

Pippa is after the perfect career as an author and the perfect love. Her best friend, Marlena, is exasperated at her wreckless attitude to dating and sleeping around. Pippa meets Ryan, a released criminal who turns Pippa’s life upside down stalking her and professing his love until it gets too much.

I loved how this was written as a private journal and a public blog. Very cleverly done. The whole book was a brilliant read:

Three and a half stars1
Where to start in a review of this book? Original - definitely; a romance - the writing of the book by the main character, Pippa; the writing of the actual action in the book, again by Pippa is more like a psychological thriller and according to her we are reading it because she is dead; and then there is the recorded transcript by Ryan/Gary who is obviously mentally unstable. The novel moves between these three voices. At first I was not sure but as the book progressed I could not put it down. It is definitely a disturbing read!
Many thanks to Netgalley/S.E. Lynes/Bookouture for a digital copy of this title. All opinions expressed are my own.

This story was very different from a lot of the novels that I have read lately. It was intriguing and fresh.

Pippa is an aspiring author. Her first book was a total flop. Critics sighting that it lacked authenticity and a real voice. Pippa struggles to come up with a new idea for her fast approaching deadline. All of that changes with a simple knock at the door.

The story alternates between diary entries and blog posts. Switching between the past and present, leading you towards the light at the end of this spiraling tunnel.
