This was a brilliant read. As soon as I started reading this book I just knew I was going to love it. Highly recommended
Every mothers worse nightmare comes through for Theresa when her daughter Jessica goes missing from her bedroom. A fast past novel that I really enjoyed. My first from this author and I can recommend this one to those who enjoy this type of book. It will keep you guessing
I can't imagine the utter horror of waking up one day, going into your child's bedroom and finding them gone, I'm not sure how I would cope with that personally and this novel was a real eye-opener; I don't have children and I suffer with anxiety anyway so I can't imagine the absolute horror of finding your child missing, because that would just put me into a permanent state of anxiety, I'd need sedating.
This was such a fabulous read, the depth was amazing and the writing was fantastic. I genuinely loved this novel so much, Jill is an absolutely fantastic writer and I really need to read more of her novels.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.
After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.
I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.
Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.

This was a great fast paced drama . It had me turning the pages , crying and much more. Lots of secrets in this one. Interesting characters and storyline. It had me guessing and wanting to find out answers.
Whew! I wasn't sure what to expect when I opened up this book, but from the first page I began wondering about all the secrets the characters are hiding. It's obvious that things are not as they seem.
I fell in love with Jessica. She was such a sweet child and her sense of imagination was delightful. And while there seemed to be something unsettling with Angie, her love for children and her ability to keep them entertained and encourage their imagination made up for anything negative you felt. There are constant twists and turns and you will continue to make assumptions and judgments based on clues and "evidence."
My heart broke when Jessica disappeared and I made an assumption about who was guilty. But hold onto your seats because you will be shocked in the end.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookoutre for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
Imagine coming into your child's room, and they are not in bed. They are missing. Where do you start to look, who do you trust that you never should have in the first place? This book is so well-written, and full of suspense until the very end, leaving the reader thrilled. Recommended.
Wow I loved this book, When Craig and Teresa move next door to Angela with their two daughters there is something they don't really like about her - but when Teresa struggles to maintain a work life balance and finds Jessica difficult they are quite happy for Angela to child mind - Angela becomes too involved in the girls lives and both parents find this hard. Things start happening and when Jessica goes missing Angela becomes the prime suspect, A good read with some suspense in it, it goes to show you shouldn't always go by first impressions. I loved the characters of Jessica, Fran and Angela but Teresa and Craig I couldn't warm to. Good characterisation when you either like or dislike a written person!
This novel was a good one that had me guessing the whole way through. I wasn't sure which direction the book was going to take and the shocking twists and revelation at the end I did not see coming at all. Overall a good book that was enjoyable.
This is a brilliant modern thriller. It captured my attention. There is a missing child, an odd babysitter and a family's anguish.
My 5* review for Jessica's Promise by Jill Childs.
"Teresa’s heart stops when she enters her daughter’s bedroom to find that her sweet, trusting little girl is gone. She can’t bear to think who would take a terrified three-year-old from her mother in the middle of the night, but all the signs point to someone close to home. Hasn’t Jessica’s stepfather been acting a little oddly? Or is it, as Teresa is beginning to fear, something to do with Angie, her daughter’s babysitter who lives next door...? Gentle, retired Angie – she must be lonely, with only her memories to keep her company in that big, old house. And she’s always had a special connection with Jessica... was trusting Angie with her precious daughter the biggest mistake of Teresa’s life?
What do we really know about those who watch our children? "
A brilliant psychological thriller that gets you thinking, keeps you guessing then hits you at the end with a final couple of twists and turns. I really enjoyed the way the book was told from the points of view of both Teresa, who is doing her best as a stressed out mum/step mum with a new relationship, new job and new house to contend with all at once, and Angie, the frumpy middle aged lovely kind lady who lives next door and offers to help with childminding to ease Teresa's load but also ease her own loneliness.
But of course things are not all they seem behind closed doors and we are drip fed hints of what could have happened to Jessica that night, by the events leading up to her going missing. I guessed the ending eventually but it was well disguised and the gentle unravelling of relationships was really well done and I did feel sorry the main characters by the end, after all they were just doing what they thought was the best for Jessica and the family.
Maybe left open for a sequel?
This book didn't really keep my interest. I like more suspenseful books. It's and easy read.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC
Wow! This book had me guessing from the start. Lots of twists... so well written.... best book I’ve read in awhile!!
Read this book in less than a day and was highly intriuged by the characters. They're well developed and fleshed out more as the plot progesses and all have their flaws. The author does a good job of casting doubt on most of the main characters but I was surprised at the reveal. A good read and I'll look out for more from the author in the future.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this arc.
I found this book to be intriguing more than exciting. A bit long winded in parts, it just seemed to take an age to get to the point. The ending was a bit obvious though.
Wow, this is a great story! Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for providing an arc in exchange for this honest review.
I was completely absorbed by this story. It is tense, fast paced and gripping. I could not put it down. Can
not wait to read more by this wonderful author.
This book gripped me from the very beginning. I loved it. Highly recommended . I will look out for other books by this author
EXCERPT: I sink into a chair and burst into tears and start to sob. I don't know any more if that's suspicious or hysterical or even normal and I don't care, I can't take any more, it's gone on and on and on and a new day is beginning and still my baby's gone and what chance is there now after all this time, hour after hour passing, of seeing her again, of taking her in my arms and holding her, of knowing she's alive.
ABOUT THIS BOOK: Teresa’s heart stops when she enters her daughter’s bedroom to find that her sweet, trusting little girl is gone.

MY THOUGHTS: I loved this book. Childs has done a magnificent job in creating her diverse cast of characters. She has written about ordinary people, which I love. Teresa is a hairdresser, Craig sells funeral plans, and Angie a child minder. They are not rich, or famous, they don’t holiday on the French Riviera. They struggle with all the normal things, juggling child care with jobs, trying to climb the employment ladder to bring in just a little more money to make life a little easier, clutching at straws when things start to fall apart. Afraid to fail. . .
Second relationships are fraught with peril, even more so when there are children involved, and Childs has depicted this situation brilliantly. Add into this situation a rivalry at work, a husband who suddenly starts staying out late into the night, a mischievous imp of a child, and a sullen almost teenager and you have the recipe for a cracker of a read. And that's without factoring in the slightly odd and reclusive child minder next door whom, strangely, both children adore.
I loved every word of this book. Childs had me suspecting everyone in turn and I really did not know who had taken Jessica until all was revealed at the end. I have just been and bought her first book, Gracie's Secret, to read. I have found a new author to follow.
😍😍😍😍😍
THE AUTHOR: Jill has always loved stories - real and imaginary. She's spent 30 years travelling the world as a journalist, living overseas and reporting wherever the news took her. She's now made her home in London with her husband and twin girls who love stories as much as she does.
Although she's covered everything from earthquakes and floods, riots and wars, she's found some of the most extraordinary stories right here at home - in the secrets and lies she imagines behind closed doors on ordinary streets, just like yours.

Theresa's 3-year-old daughter Jessica has disappeared seemingly without a trace - is the new babysitter and neighbor Angie to blame? This book was fast-paced and tense and I really enjoyed it!
Thank you to Jill Childs, Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC of this book!
Jessica's Promise by Jill Childs is a psychologically thriller that will keep you guessing until the end. Angie is delighted that a new family is moving next door and that they have children. She tries to befriend Teresa and the children, 3 year old Jessica and her older stepsister. Teresa isn't sure about Angie, but as she is convenient, she allows her to babysit for Jessica on a daily basis. Until one morning, Jessica is gone. Who could have possibly taken this beautiful 3 year old? Did the mother who didn't want her in the first place harm her? Did the babysitter/neighbor who has a suspicious past kidnap her? Or did a stranger break into the house and steal her away? A riveting new novel which is sure to keep you turning pages until the very end....
Thank you to the publisher, author and NetGalley for providing me with this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
