Thank you for the opportunity to review - this had promise and was somewhat interesting, but didn't stick with its promise sufficiently.
Hot Pursuit by Rebecca Freeborn is a good fit for readers looking for an exciting contemporary romance with a focus on personal growth, resilience, and the pursuit of dreams, despite facing challenges and past heartbreaks.
I requested this several years ago and I don't think it's a book for me anymore. So I will not be reviewing at this time, but if I do read it, I will update this review. Thank you for the opportunity.
I had a lot of hope for this one as it was being advertised as perfect for fans of Penny Reid. For me, it was alright. The main character Sarah works at a gossip magazine which isn’t exactly her dream job. When her boyfriend dumps her out of the blue, she decides to take her heartbreak across the ocean to Europe where she is working on an assignment for her job. There she is paired up with a photographer -- Nick who happens to be her ex-boyfriend’s best friend. (Apparently, it’s a very small world). There are some twists and turns in this one but it felt unbelievable at times.
I just couldn’t get hooked in with this one, but you might have better luck.
It took me a while, but Hot Pursuit was a really nice and easy read. It was full of humour as both Sarah and Nick (her ex's best friend) try and track down a missing rock star in Europe.
So much adventure and humor in this bookC I really enjoyed this one. It’s very light hearted and to me I ew through it so it was a pretty quick read.
Sarah is a journalist, when she lands the story of a lifetime, can Nick help her, or will he upend her life?
So fun and incredibly sexy -- the story, the cover, THE TITLE. I look forward to many more from this author.
I actually started reading this a few months ago, and then stopped around chapter 6 as life got busier. I think it's a good marker for a book that I was able to pick up where I left off and still felt like I knew what the characters would be like. Of course, Sarah is somewhat unpredictable in her perhaps naivety, so I really didn't expect the twist at the end. Personally, I love a good flashback and think some could have been added in to show more of James or Nick's previous behaviour but the story certainly wasn't lacking without them. A fun read, I enjoyed it!
What a fascinating book. I was impressed by the storyline and the characters were all well written and complex. Where there are complex storylines combined with intriguing characters the reader experience is magnified tremendously. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. The word building was phenomenal in this book. Here I forgot about my own life and was immersed in the world created by the author. I would recommend this book.
Sarah Burrowes is an aspiring journalist searching for MORE. More money (to pay her giant mortgage she’s left to pay solo after her partner splits). She wants more in her career. Her current position at a gossip magazine is leaving her less than satisfied in the goals department. Finally, more than the heartbreak her last relationship left her with.
One opportunity could check all those boxes if executed properly. She’s assigned a story in Europe that could make or break her career. There are just a few potential problems, including being paired up with a photographer who’s the BFF of her ex.
Lots of international hijinks ensue. While this was a pretty light story with some cute and funny moments, parts of it were a little lackluster and unbelievable to me (as a former journalist.) It’s a quick read and I’d recommend it to anyone who likes a good rom-com.
"Hot Pursuit" starts out like your usual contemporary romance with a down-on-her-luck heroine who has just met with multiple disappointments. Readers follow her from Melbourne, Australia to Barcelona and across Europe after she lands an investigative story job, where she's joined by a playboy photographer ex. The main characters, Sarah & Nick, were likeable, and the pacing was great. The plot turned a little dark with a drug ring and murder thrown in, but overall a fun read.
This was a great read--full of humor, adventured, and a spirited main character that had me rooting for her through the entire novel.
This was a DNF for me. I remember being super excited to read it because it was being compared to The Hating Game (one of my fave books of all time), but when I started I couldn't get into it, and was super let down that it felt nothing like The Hating Game to me.
Wannabe journalist, Sarah and playboy photographer, Nick team up in this fact paced thriller. Sarah, who has long yearned to be a journalist, talks her way into an assignment to catch a killer. Nick, with whom she had a one night stand, is assigned to accompany. What ensues is a jaunt through Europe as she attempts to break the story that will lead to her first lead story. This story had humor, mystery, a bumbling MC and a side of romance. I really enjoyed the exchanges between the two leads. I liked that Sarah took chances but Nick was there to back her up. This is a nice set up to a follow up book. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this book. I definitely recommend this book.
Almost immediately, I did not like this book. It started off with some very anti-feminist language and it continued throughout the entire book. I am not the audience for this book, and I wish there were more romance books that catered to the audience of a young feminist.
I expected a little more from this book, and while the interactions and banter between the main couple was okay at some points, this book is nothing special. Easily forgettable.
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review Hot Pursuit. Unfortunately, I was unable to finish this book and won't be rating or reviewing at this time. Should I decide to give it another chance down the road, I will rate and review on my blog, Goodreads and retailers at that time.
Where to start...
Sarah Burrowes is down on her luck - life decisions that led to bad romantic entanglements and a mortgage that she can't afford on her own. If you didn't know it, men can sometimes be very unreliable. She's got a mom who wants to be involved in her life, maybe a little too much but as far as moms in books go, she really just loves her kid. Also, Sarah's got a new job that she doesn't really love - it's meant to be a stepping stone to what she wants to do but things just aren't going her way.
Then she meets a musician! She has no idea that Chris Ford is in this really big band that according to the local newspapers actually really is bad at making music. With the abandonment of her ex, she makes the decision to sleep with the above-mentioned musician but turns right around and changes her mind because she's suddenly aware it's a bad decision. She really does that a lot throughout the book - very wishy-washy and quick to attack with her words instead of communicating. That bothered me a lot or had me rolling my eyes because it was the same thing over and over.
I actually really enjoyed Nick and their banter was good when it was good. When they weren't being ridiculous and constantly misunderstanding each other. That is one trope I'm really getting tired of reading about - it's not that difficult to communicate, people. The story was good in so far that I did want to see where it was going to go even though I knew about halfway through most of the decisions Sarah was going to make. I'm really glad the cover changed from the ARC version of people on the cover to the cutesy one that's on goodreads.
Hot Pursuit was a great read by Rebecca Freeborn. Sarah was a beauty therapist who wants to journo for a gossip magazine. The love of her life left her with a mortgage that she must deal with on her own. She obtained the assignment of a lifetime in Europe with a hot photographer, who is also her ex's best friend. I really enjoyed Sarah and Nick's story and can't wait to read more by the author.
