Oh wow I really love this suspense romance read, it's my first book from Rebecca Freeborn and definitely won;t be the last.
An unexperienced journo and a narcissistic photographer in a hot pursuit around europe to chase a fugitive musician story. Yes this book has interesting story. I thought this one is gonna be a fast-paced, easy-read sweet romance mix with suspense mystery. So glad that I was wrong, this book hit me with a lot of twists, there's always a surprise and more mystery in every corner. There's more of suspense than the romance but hey I'm not complaining at all. This one is a thrilling suspense with a hint of second-chance and enemies to lovers romance, hahaah yeah it's a mouthful, but that's why I love it.
As for characters, As an inexperience journo Sarah is really frustrating borderline reckless character, I get that everything is new for her, but it doesn't stop me wanting to yell at her most of the time that her decision is wrong, but this what makes me turn the page after page, wondering how she will survive this. And Nick, I'm not a big fan of this man at the beginning, he's such a d*ck, but in the end he kinda redeemed himself. These two is not your typical sweet couple, they're always fighting, the push and pull is exasperating, always butthead every step of the way, it's just like a real couple.
If you love secon-chance or enemies to lovers or suspense romance, I think you'll love this book.
I don't have much to write because it's been a while since I read it, but I really liked the story.
I've seen a lot of bad or meh reviews about it, but I really enjoyed the pursuit and how I was kinda promised a romance with a rock star but got a star crossed kind of romance.
It was really good, with maybe some small negative points, such as the source of the pursuit. I felt that there was missing some mistery, maybe. I liked the end, though. And I really want to read the next one.
Hot Pursuit had an interesting premise, but I didn't feel much of the book was believable. Sarah is out at a club and still not over her breakup when she meets a famous rock star, but she doesn't have any idea who he is. After he runs out of his hotel room on her, she finds out the next day at work that he's on the run. She tricks her boss into assigning her the story, and Sarah ends up heading to Europe with Nick, her ex's best friend. She and Nick criss-cross Europe looking for the rock star and trying to figure out the story. I felt like Sarah ended up in a lot of improbable/impossible/highly dangerous situations. The book was still enough to keep me reading to the end, and I will likely check out the next one just to find out what happens, but it's curiosity, rather than love of this book. I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a lighthearted romantic caper with serious elements. Sarah has just been dumped by a creep who left her with a mortgage she can't pay and she is already insecure about her job because she has ambitions to be a serious journalist but is not highly regarded at work. When she encounters a rock star who is later accused of murder, Sarah seizes the opportunity to do a story on him but is forced to work with handsome Nick, a photographer with whom she once had a one night stand. Surprisingly, each brings strengths to their partnership, and when Sarah's ex wants another chance, Sarah has to decide whether it is better to go to back to the known but unsatisfactory or see if there is any possibility of a relationship with Nick . . .
The actual pursuit of the missing rock star and the underlying criminal activity which he is involved in is not very plausible but is moderately entertaining.
I received an #arc of this novel from #netgalley in exchange for a fair review.
In the end I found this book entertaining, it was a light read that you can get through in a couple of hours. The plot kept me engaged, even though it felt rushed and a little messy at times, I really liked one of the characters and I do see myself reading the next installment of the pursuits of Sarah Burrows. That being said Sarah Burrows is not my favorite heroine, she is very annoying throughout the book, and super clueless when it comes to investigating and traveling, I don’t know what she would do without Nick at her side. However fate is at her side, she stumbles into information and by the skin of her incompetent teeth succeeds. There were many times I could not believe such a person can exist, especially one who is an aspiring journalist, for example the whole bit about explaining what a drug mule was. Perhaps the author was going for comedy but I just found her even more annoying after the whole not having a smart phone bit, having to explain to her about google translate and google maps. Nevertheless I do like her go-getter attitude, how she tricks her boss Katrina into giving her the job and keeps stumbling ahead to get the job done even though her personal life is not going great. She has just been dumped by her long term boyfriend James and is having rekindling feelings for her one night stand and coworker Nick, my favorite character. He is the character the reader knows our heroine will end up with at the end, the immature guy who realized too late he messed up and lost the girl to his mate, but now circumstances have put them together. I really liked their chemistry together, their snarky comments to each other made my day.
I see lots of room for improvement and character development, I hope Sarah Burrows learns how to become a good journalist she aspires to be. I do recommend this book to people who are in the mood for a quick lighthearted romance/mystery novel.
I received a copy of this story from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a book of extremes: extremely unrealistic plot, extremely inept journalist, extremely convenient lucky breaks/plot twists, extremely weird (and borderline offensive) male lead, extremely slow for such a bare-bones story, I could go on and on.
I get that not every story will be my cup of tea but the problem I have is that this sounded so promising and failed so spectacularly on execution! I don't know that Sarah could ever be called a proper journalist; she gets the story on luck alone. The human elements of fear and distrust are mostly ignored. All of her wallowing over James and her waffling over all the other love interests (and really, how many do there need to be in one story?!) are completely at odds with the "tenacity" she shows in going after the story.
And let's talk about these love interests for a moment. Chris makes sense. Some of the wallowing over James I can understand. But Nick is detestable. He's so awful, misogynistic, and downright mean that I hate Sarah for sticking around, even on a work assignment. He doesn't earn the moments of kindness he has because he's so hot and cold and TERRIBLE.
Please, save yourself the time and skip this one.
Sorry to say that this one wasn't for me. A convoluted plot and characters that acted like spoiled teenagers--not a recommended read!
Many thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
I enjoyed this book. I liked the characters. There was excitement, twists and turns, and surprises. The only thing I didn't care too much for was the ending. It was sudden. Just seemed there should have been a little more explanation to end everything. Otherwise, a good book.
This was a bit disappointing on most levels
The storyline was predictable, no matter how many twists Freeborn tried to throw in.
The character building felt a bit flat and very cliche, so much angst thrown in, despite them not being close to being teenagers
There wasn't much mystery, it was quite easily unraveled.
But most of all, I found this a chore to read. I would have never finished it if it wasnt an ARCs.
Not for me
Cute, funny, and swoon worthy. I was laughing throughout this book and was always wondering what was going to happen next. Loved seeing our characters develop throughout the story as well. The ending was sort of predictable, but still loved it anyways.
Sarah Burrowes is heart-broken, left behind by her boyfriend, with a mortgage she can't afford. Her dreams of being a journalist seem like a thing in the past and she spends her days working a column in a gossip magazine, that is going nowhere. Her life is in ruins and she is lonely. Till one night a chance meeting with a sexy stranger turns out to be the chance of a lifetime.
After a little white lie and begging Sarah gets that chance of a lifetime. To bad her ex boyfriends bff Nick is assigned to be her photographer. They had a one night stand that went bad and barely get along, now she has to spend her time working on this story together. How will they not kill each other?
When the assignment turns a sinister corner Nick and Sarah find that getting along may just save their lives.
This book was full of twists and turns that will have you second guessing yourself over and over. A well thought out plot full of comedy and suspense. At times the plot was not written well, a bit choppy at times. Even though I found some parts to be lagging, I still found it to be a very enjoyable read. Nick and Sarah are wonderful characters that have amazing chemistry. The ending leaves you hanging just a bit, but not like a cliff dive. It leaves room to continue Sarah's story further. I would hope that Nick and Sarah continue together.
If you are looking for a steady paced read that will keep you guessing right up to the end, then this book is for you. It has a thick and engaging plot, with fun and energetic characters. Even though there were some slow spots in the story, it was still a fun and suspenseful read.

Freeborn pulls a sleight of hand in this romance/action/mystery. Sarah and Nick are great together banter wise. The mystery was a good one and involved lots of action and many changes of scenery. It ended well and the pace was steady throughout the book. I will be looking for more by this author.
Brilliant, funny, and full of surprises on every page. I loved this book Every page every chapter brought me closer to the characters and the answers I wanted to uncover. Sarah thought she found the answer to her bad luck but little did she know when she took her new job she would be in the middle of a mystery and just maybe in the middle of a new romance. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read and write about this book.
Loved the intricated story that is solved throughout the book. I start the book waiting for her to end with the rockstar, so I’m waiting for a common sweet kind of story. So for much of my surprise in the second and third chapters I’m hooked on the story and it’s nothing of what I was expecting. It’s a surprisingly a great story with a good criminal mystery involved that doesn’t get solved until the very end. Nonetheless, it also has the main character love life exposed and her doubts about with who should she be. I loved the story and recommend it to everyone who likes a bit of mystery and romance. I would have liked an end with a few more pages to be able to see more into the future of the character but loved it anyway.
I really enjoyed this novel! It was funny, witty, and absolutely swoon worthy. I loved watching the chemistry between Sarah and Nick unfold. I liked how she starts out so chaotic in the wake of being dumped and somehow learns to stand on her own two feet. While this book has a typical ending you coming, I was still hooked and could not put it down.
I just didn't feel this book, not my cuppa tea... The story itself wasn't really bad just the plot and idea wasn't really my thing...
This was an intriguing story that kept me on the edge of my seat. I was trying to figure out the twists & turns & every time I thought I had it, there would be a new plot twist. I enjoyed reading it, but I wish there was a little more at the end. I felt a little unsatisfied, but then again, I kinda wrote my own ending from there so that was kind of fun. Overall a good read that will keep you entertained.
A globe trotting mystery with a but steam. Cute with some unexpected twists.
The h was a little wishy washy for my taste.
Overall it was just okay.
I almost put this book down about 50 times. The whole thing feels like a wild goose chase from beginning to end. I was so frustrated by Sarah's stupidity, I wanted to kick her. And the constant push-pull between Sarah and Nick as well as Sarah and stupid James made me want to gag. I was hoping for a romance story that provided some entertainment with the setting and the suspense, but this was just disjointed and silly. I won't be looking for more of the story or more from this author.
The only reason I finished reading the book was that I accepted the ARC from NetGalley and felt a responsibility to see it through.
I love the adventure this book takes you on! It is fun to try and track down and follow all the clues to find out who is really behind all of the drugs. Cash seems like such a sweet rockstar and one who cares for other people and is just following the misdirection of his manager. With Cash on the run and Sarah and Nick following any leads and her intuition she seems to be in the right place at the right time to keep tabs on him. The ex is a jerk and there is way to much of her attention devoted to Jason. It was great to see Nick and Sarah’s relationship develop into something great!
