I had fun reading this book. It was cute, but also had some suspense and mystery. Overall I really enjoyed it. It was a quick easy read that I would recommend. I didn't really feel a lot of connection to the story and that is the only reason I am giving it three stars, but I would definitely read more from this author.
I enjoyed the book! It was a quick & easy read....had some suspense and rom-com too. The book was tagged with "for Christina Lauren fans" but I didn't get that vibe (not the sex they describe). It was more like a Carly Phillips book to me. Was the perfect book to read to end the summer!
This book almost felt like a cross between The Amazing Race and Upclose and Personal.
Really different than your average romance but a really good plot line.
I am not posting a review anywhere but here and Goodreads because I honestly didn't like it.
This was just a meh read for me. It failed to suck me in and make me care about the characters or feel.
I really wanted to like it more, but can't honestly say I did.
Thank you to Netgalley for this ARC.
Fast paced and entertaining novel, with a mystery and a romance.
Journalist Sarah talks her way into an assignment that will take her from Australia to Eurpoe. Only problem is that photographer Nick will be coming too. Not only is he her ex's best friend, but she had a one night stand with him when she first started her job, and she has been wary of him ever since.
As they set out to find the story for the magazine, can they become friends again?
A great love-hate story!
WOW there where more twists and turns in this story which kept you on your toes
Sarah was formed beauty therapist but what she really wants to be is a journalist. When her boyfriend James dumps her leaving her with the mortgage to pay she decides to drown her sorrows at a bar There she meets a hot guy named Chris and almost has a one night stand with him but can't go through with it. Next day she realises Chris is a member of a famous band and that he is suspected of murder been the only journalist available she is sent to Barcelona to investigate only problem she has to take photojournalist Nick James's best friend with her and they have history of their own. They will bicker their way through most of the book. Now she has to solve the secret of Chris handle the feelings that she has for Nick and James is back on the scene See told you it was complicated. Over all a great fun read even though Sarah did come across as a bit of a air head.
2.5 stars - I really wanted to like this read. I know authors work hard. As I have yet to write anything that I'm willing to put before the general public to praise or criticize, I sincerely admire authors who take the plunge.
What I liked was that the story was written well, in that the writing felt natural and the prose were easy to digest.
What I didn't like is largely two-fold. First, the title is a lot sexier than the read itself, and relationships contained therein. Unfortunately, it makes promises to which the read doesn't live up. Rather than a hot pursuit, this one is more like a meandering, lukewarm walkabout. Still my rating and review would be favorable if it wasn't for the heroine, Sarah.
***SPOILERS FOLLOW****
Sarah for me is a big problem. She's naïve and lacking all common sense to the point of frustration. For example: she dresses up like a hooker and sneaks into an underground club ran by mobsters. She's silly and simple, so of course she knowingly left her cell in her hotel room, gets found out, drugged, and put on a train headed clear across the country. When she finally wakes up, she goes back to meet up with her partner and soon sneaks back into the club a second time. She tastes white powder that she suspects is cocaine, even though she has no idea what cocaine should taste like. She sneaks into the mobster warehouse, leaving her cell phone ringer on which leads to them getting caught. It's easier to just say she's completely ridiculous!
For most of the story, she has three cute guys crushing on her (her ex, a rock star and her sexy, player co-worker). Two of the three have had sex with her previously. Which to me says that she must have a golden V-jay-jay, lined with enchantment oil because her head is full of rocks and dumb is not sexy!
I can’t in good conscience recommend this one, unless you'd like a female lead who is a silly 30 year old woman who is a lot like Curious George - making a mess wherever she goes and somehow it all works out with her as the heroine in the end.
I received an ARC of this book, from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Hot Pursuit was the first book I have read by Rebecca Freeborn. I enjoyed Sarah, maybe because she wanted to be a journalist but never seemed to get the chance so when the opportunity was there, even though she went about it underhandedly, she succeeded at getting the chance of a lifetime. Little did she know she was getting in way over her head. I didn’t like Nick at first but after seeing how much he cared, I changed my opinion. James, didn’t like him from the start. There was some mystery and a little suspense but all in all, I liked it. I received a copy of this book for my honest review.
Yeah I wasn't crazy about this book an that bummed me because I was looking forward to it. Sarah was dumped by her long time love and left to pay a mortgage. She goes on an assignment all over the world and comes to find out she has to go with Nick, her ex- friends and a long ago one night stand. They supposedly are still attracted, but I didn;t get it, Nick wasn't great. We have drama with the immature ex..No interest in continuing. I liked the travelling though, that its what saved it.
I received this ebook from Pantera Press to read and review for free. This is the first publishing that I have read by author Rebecca Freeborn. I was definitely impressed with her story line and the plot. I am going to be looking into author novels by this author to read. This story line will keeping you on the edge of your seat until the end and will keep you guessing until the end. I enjoyed getting to know the characters such as Sarah, Chris, and Nick. This book any type of reader will enjoy. It has mystery, suspense and some romance, and lots of adventure. This book after you get done reading it will want to travel in Europe and see all the places these characters came across.
I expected a light romance, got a silly mystery and a little suspense. I tried to like the main character, but she came across as a naive brat and by half way she was just an idiot. If she had been 22 or younger I could have understood, but as someone who is supposed to be almost 30, I have to wonder what bad journalism school did she go to, and why doesn't she have any common sense of the world around her. Problems I had were: 1 she's very proud she doesn't have a smart phone, yet someone who wants to be an investigative reporter would have the newer technology to be ready for anything, 2 she blabs everything to everyone when she's supposed to be getting a scoop on the rest of the world for her boss, 3 she works for a celebrity rag yet can't recognize individuals who would be making her money, doesnt read the rag or know anything going on around her, 4 she drinks too much and loses focus on what she is supposed to be doing. I would think someone who is trying to be a "journo" would be trolling the news for chances.
Very predictable silliness, if thats what you're looking for that you don't have to do any thinking into, then you might enjoy this.
A solid read.
A new author to me, but I enjoyed the writing and will look forward to the next book.
New author to me and really liked what I read. It had it all, banter, romance, mystery and all the feels for me to love this book.
This book was a mess from the very beginning. It was like when you turn on the TV and it's on some random show that you don't even like, but you're too lazy to actually change the channel so you keep watching. I honestly don't really know how I finished this book.
This was a fun book and a fast read. I liked the story and the characters. I will definitely read other books by this author.
This was a fun mix of a enemy-to-friends-to-lovers romance along with mystery/thriller plus an element of a travel novel. You can get a real feeling of place as Sarah and Nick travel around Europe trying to figure out what happened when a rock star disappeared. She’s trying to get her start writing for an Australian gossip magazine and he’s a paparazzi-sort of photographer. Add in that they once slept together and he’s been snarky to her ever since while she settled with his best friend except that friend has just abandoned her with very little explanation.
There’s a lot going on this novel, sometimes a bit too much, but it did come together in a fun total.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.
This is a good light hearted read and shows great promise for a debut novel. Sarah has been dumped by her live in boyfriend, leaving her with a house she can't afford and maxed out credit cards. After a night out with her friends, she leaves a bar with a good looking Scottish guy called Chris. Unfortunately, as things start to heat up, Sarah thinks about her ex and calls a halt to anything further. Next day, she finds out who she was really with and that there is a huge breaking news story that would be the answer to her money woes. The catch, she has to go with Nick, her exes best friend and the office lothario who lets everyone know he had a one night stand with Sarah. It really couldn't get much worse. But of course, it can and it does. Dragged a bit in places but overall a great story.
Enjoyable read. A fun romp chasing a story line to help an aspiring journalist in pursuit of her career goals while stumbling on a story that might just make her dead instead of the journalist she aspires to. Then added to the mix is her ex and the beat picks up with a twist. A good, fun read with romance woven in.
A sweet aussie romance with the focus on a heroine who is fairly average. but she is determined to prove herself and do what she loves rather than settle for something. A sweet story, that is very character driven.
Hot Pursuit was a quick, fast read. I loved all the settings and thought the mystery was interesting. I struggled with the book on the front that it sounded like their would be more romance and there was only just a tad. A lot of the book Sarah was all wishy washy about her ex, who just up and left her. I get that she loved him before, but he legit up and left with no word and left her in a terrible position financially. It drove me crazy that she couldn't decide what to do with him or her travel companion Nick.
Nick was the best part of Hot Pursuit. He was fun and I loved his sense of adventure, go-getter attitude and how much he clearly liked Sarah.
The mystery took too many twists and turns that didn't quite make sense to me who was involved in what, other than the one band member.
