Sarah has been dumped by her boyfriend and is totally broke because he left her with the mortgage. She almost has a one night stand with a stranger in a bar and come monday she recognizes the stranger as a famous band member, suspected of murder, when her boss is looking for an available journalist to cover the story.
She somehow gets the job and travels to Barcelona to investigate the story and finally get a job as journo. Unfortunately, she is saddled with Nick, photographer and also best friend of her ex. They also have a history from before she got together with her ex. So they bicker and banter from the start.
I rate it between 2 and 3 stars. It is not the writing. I just thought Sarah was annoying, naive and too impulsive at times. The storyline was totally unbelievable and Sarah was absolutely not a savvy journo. I did like the bickering with Nick.
I do think the author can write! If she only made the heroine more believable and indeed badass.
The book was nice and very entertaining read. And to be honest it was difficult to anticipate what crazy idea will be there behind the corner. If you are looking for easy and nice read, this book is definitely for you.
Wow! What a thrill ride with this book! Hot Pursuit is the first title I've ever read by Rebecca Freeborn and I'm going to keep an eye on this author! I wasn't sure how this story would turn out judging by the synopsis as it seemed like a typical comedy-mystery story, but once I started the pages, I was immediately hooked into the fast paced storyline!
The heroine, Sarah was a self-deprecating 30-year old who thought she had met the love of her life even though other aspects of her life weren't quite exceptional. But when she was suddenly left by said "love of her life" and then realized she was sort of stuck in her career, she was left with a broken heart and a broken soul. With nothing much going on in her life, she inexplicitly meets a guy at a bar who turns out to be a much bigger deal as we quickly discover. This is where the fun begins!
Sarah is a hopeful journalist stuck in a dead end job at a magazine company. When the opportunity strikes at her job that coincidentally involves the guy she met at the bar, she knew she had to jump at the chance. Being paired up with her ex's best friend wasn't what she bargained for, however Nick was the only photographer available to travel with her to find the story of the lifetime. Nick wasn't too happy about it either as it seems Sarah and Nick had a sordid past that neither one of them wanted to remember.
As the two travel through several countries in Europe to solve this mystery and save Sarah's career, Sarah starts to trust Nick again although she is still nursing a broken heart and an unexplained rejection from Nick years ago. Nick is your typical cocky, self-assured photo-journalist who just wants to get the job done instead of babysitting Sarah. Little does he know however, that Sarah is more than just a sad little wannabe journalist. She puts her life in danger to solve the mystery and to help the lives of those around her. Nick begins to see Sarah in a different light and vice versa.
What I really liked about this book is the rapport between Sarah and Nick. You can tell there is an underlying something between them. While Sarah's ex (James) is inadvertantly connected to both her and Nick, somehow she is trying to get over James's betrayal and Nick's strange behavior. The pacing of this story is so quick and smooth that as I neared towards the end of the book I was saddened that it ended so suddenly! I really hope the author decides to write more stories with Sarah (and possibly Nick) as Sarah is a character you can't help like and support.
Nick, while described as sort of a skirt chaser isn't so bad either. The author did a fabulous job making Nick likeable and not your typical womanizer who just wants to get with a girl and dump her the next morning. Rebecca writes him with humor and masculinity yet deep down has a kind heart. Sarah is equally likeable as her wit and keen intelligence really shines throughout the story. Very rarely do I like both main characters equally although I do hope Nick will change his ways if and when he and Sarah decide that they are right for each other.
I am looking forward to another book with Sarah Burrowes and her sleuthing skills. Thank you to Net Galley and Rebecca for the ARC!
This book, Hot Pursuit, seemed like the perfect light hearted read for me. Rebecca Freeborn is a new author to me, so that also excited me.
However, the characters didn't seem to connect or have any chemistry and I didn't really care for the story or the way it was written.
Hopefully this was just a case of me not liking it and I would try other books from this author.
This was a fun face paced read, full of twists and turns. I loved the relationship between Sarah and Nick, it had me laughing on mow than one occasion. The plot was fun and well developed, I really enjoyed reading this book!!
This has all the elements of a book that could be great, but I just couldn't get past the heroine's personality. She's unbelievably naïve and insufferably needy; add to that her back-and-forth feelings about not one, not two, but three guys, and it's all a bit too much for me. For those who don't mind a far from perfect female lead, this story will be a fun, fast read.
A fun romp from Australia through Europe. Enjoyed the differences in words as this book is written by an Australian and I am American. No difficulty in understanding. I would have preferred the swear words being omitted, along with the steamy scenes, but I was able to overlook that and be entertained by the story.
Hot Pursuit by Rebecca Freebom is such a. fun book. I loved everything about the book. The characters were well developed. I would love to meet Sarah and Nick. The story included humor, romance, and. danger. I am looking forward to the next book in this series. I received a copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
*I won this book off of Netgalley for my honest opinion*
This was cute read. I enjoyed the banter between Nick and Sarah. The story line was intriguing. The only thing I found myself being annoyed with is Sarah. Some of her "naive" mistakes annoyed me. She didn't seem like a very strong character but she became stronger throughout the book. All of the spur of moments decisions made me want to scream at her. LOL. However, it made for a cute fast read.
In the mood for a enemies to lover story with a mystery thrown in? Pick this up!
I tried really hard with this book. I find when I force myself to try to like a book, it never works out. It started out cute and I thought I was going to love it. Then it took a turn and I just lost all interest.
I enjoyed this fun romantic suspense book. Sarah is a journalist in training and her live in boyfriend has dumped her. She has a low level job at a Celebrity Magazine but wants to be a investigative reporter. When a chance meeting with a musician turns into an an international mystery she is determined to write the story. The magazine reluctantly agrees and sends a staff reporter, Nick and her to Europe to chase the story. Romance and mystery soon follow. I liked the characters and the travels through Europe was fun. The romance was good but predictable. The mystery was good and did have a few surprises. Enjoy this fun Beach read.
A missing rockstar and a woman trying to get her life together is a combination I can get behind. I rarely read this genre anymore because I’ve read it all but once in awhile I find a new author with a fresh perspective and love a guilty pleasure read. This fits that criteria, it’s fresh, the heroine you’ll love, she’s relatable. This is a quick read that’ll leave you happy. What more can someone ask for?
Here's the thing about Sarah; you can knock her down but you can't keep her there! I love a kick-ass heroine, but what's even great about her is that she'd got her insecurities and she's not one to shy away from saying that she's not gotten everything figured out.
The pace is fast and the author's writing maintained this throughout the book so much so that I read it in one sitting. I could say a thing or two about her boss, Katarina, but Sarah's wit, quirky nature and ability to connect dots overshadowed Katarina whom I found to be quite flat as a character.
I requested an eARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, and I know that readers would love Sarah, not once or twice but throughout the story.
Great book! I really enjoyed reading this one! All the destinations they went she described in some detail and it was amazing! This is Sarah and Nick book, Sarah is a former beauty therapist at her mother's salon and now she wants to be a top journalist at woman's choice magazine. Nick, is a photographer at the same mag, Sarah's ex, which is nicks best friend ran out on her and left her with a huge mortgage! Sarah and Nick did have a one time fling before she got with her new Bo but Sara h can't stand him because he gossiped about their time together! They get thrown in this assignment together and she's definitely not happy about that! This book had everything! Action, drama, murder, humor and a beautiful backdrop !!! Definitely don't miss out on this book it's well worth the read! Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me!
