I was rather disappointed by this book. I thought the library aspect might give us more literary references and a greater prominence to books. Instead, the only relevance of the library is that it holds the town archive, containing newspapers and papers deposited by local families. That’s an important function and, upon reflection, a library is an obvious place to house an archive, but it wasn’t an aspect that I expected. I liked some of the minutiae of library admin, such as the annoying habit of readers returning books with Post-It stickers marking pages!
The characters are well-drawn, especially the selfish love-rat (Charles? Richard? You’ll have to read the book to find out!) and Sunny, the assistant librarian, but the style was too light and polite for me. I’m sure other people will love the book, but it just wasn’t to my taste. For example, when Amy’s and Richard’s parents meet over dinner, I was hoping for either bonding and friendship (in line with the romance aspect of the book) or a stronger full-on row. What we got was the row with the volume turned down to 7.
This is the third book in a series. Although it is reasonably stand-alone, I suspect it would have helped if I had read the previous ones as there are a lot of back-references. I didn’t know who the narrator was until Chapter 5. In Chapter 1, students greet the narrator and her friend, Sunny, with “Hello, Ms. Webber and Ms. Fields”. But which is which? Much much later it becomes clear that the narrator is Amy Webber. It also took me a while to work out that the story is set in Taylorsford and Clarin is a university several miles away in a different town/city.
You may well enjoy this book much more than I did, especially if you've read the previous books in the series.
Amy Weber is the somewhat new town library director, living with her aunt Lydia, and next door to Richard, the love of her life. and of course she’s always in the middle of a mystery. This time it’s unraveling the mystery of mysterious lights in the woods, old folk legends, a missing college student, and what does her old two-timing boyfriend want with her? A satisfying addition to,this mystery series.
This was the first book I read in this series and it provided romance and mystery, two of my favorites!
Amy the main character is the head of a small town library and gets involved in a murder mystery. It provides plenty of suspense and had me guessing till the end. I also found all the characters quite enjoyable!! I cant wait to catch up and read the first two in this series!
May Day in Taylorsford, Virginia means everyone in town needs to turn out to make the occasion noteworthy for tourists. Library director Amy Webber plans to have an expert explain local folklore but the festivities have barely begun when a local student disappears. Nobody is more surprised than Amy when her neighbor Richard is considered a suspect. As a librarian myself, I always enjoy reading a book with a librarian as the protagonist. This story is fun, the mystery inventive and the characters like old friends
As a bookseller and a lover of mystery novels, I always enjoy previewing authors unknown to me. The setting and the lively characters set a nice tone, but I was not expecting all the romantic entanglements with my mystery. This will likely strike big with readers who enjoy that mix, and with followers of the series.
This is the third book in the series, and it honestly just keeps getting better! Amy is in the middle of multiple mysteries around Taylorsford. Not only does she need to deal with the fact that her cheating ex is in town, mourning the death of his lover--the same woman who he cheated on Amy with--but there is also a grad student who's gone missing. Not to mention, her new love Richard is keeping something from her.
This book was fast paced, and the mystery kept me guessing up until the very end. I highly recommend this book.
Beautiful, sweet romance along with a suspenseful mystery! I loved the conflict with the parents -- so realustic! The twisted-up mysteries kept me guessing, along with being surprised as turned around into a different story. I really enjoyed this book!!
I love this series and I loved this book.
Even when Amy, the heroine, is so whiny and needy that make you wish to end her suffering :)
The plot is very interesting, it starts slowly but when it get going it keeps you hooked and you cannot put the book down. It also kept me guessing till the end.
It's interesting how the mix of mystery and women's fiction works wonderfully.
I loved the new characters and was happy to read the developments in the old one.
It was a lot of fun to read.
Highly recommended!
