I couldn't read very much of this before my e-arc timed out on me.
Claw the System
by Francesco Marciuliano
This was a quick, fun, and entertaining read, and it made me want to read the other book by the same author! I did find that there were some issues with the digital formatting for my kindle, but it didn't distract from the poems.
I LOVE this book. Poetry by cats is a favorite genre of mine, and this volume kicks things up by taking a combative, revolutionary perspective that is both thought-provoking and hilarious.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, before I found the opportunity to review it, this book was archived Obviously, I can't rate it.
Another hilarious collection by Francesco Marciuliano! While the images messed up the formatting of the digital ARC, I loved the printed book--which I ordered after laughing my way through the ARC).
I've enjoyed each of Marciuliano's collections of cat poetry, and this was no exception. I really enjoyed these poems, told from a feline point of view. Cat lovers, particularly cat owners, will definitely appreciate them, and recognize the cats in their lives in the poems.
This was another delightful collection of cat poems told with a perfect amount of cat personality and sass! Titles like this one regularly sell well from the counter right by the register and will be easy to hand-sell to customers looking for a small gift for the cat-lover in their lives.
Perfect for all cat lovers! I love these books. There is a lot of honesty in these poems! Ha, ha! If you want to know what your cats are thinking, this is it!
The cats aren’t going to take it anymore. Not the videos of them riding the Roomba. Not the photos of the “cute” hats that you put on the internet. Not the silly baby talk or the way you answer their pleas with a spoken “meow.” They are preparing for an uprising, and Claw the System is their manifesto.
Packed with more cat poems from the man who brought us I Could Pee on This and You Need More Sleep: Advice from Cats, Claw the System is the logical follow-up and the beginning of the revolution. Have you noticed your cat giving you more side-eye than usual? Is he spending more time staring at the wall? Has the depth of her ignoring you deepened lately? Your cat may too be preparing for the upcoming revolt. Read the book and be armed with the knowledge of what’s coming!
Claw the System, like Francesco Marciuliano’s previous books, is another adorable volume that allows readers a glimpse inside the feline mind, in the most entertaining way. The poems are heartfelt and filled with sweet surprises, and the adorable photography that accompanies the poems just make it all that much better. I highly recommend Claw the System for all cat lovers, cat parents, and those who need to buy cat related gifts for the cat lovers and cat parents.
Galleys for Claw the System were provided by Andrews McMeel Publishing through NetGalley, with many thanks.
This is the perfect gift for the cat lover in your life! It is hilarious! The pictures are also amazing! This is just an amazing book! Get one for yourself and give them as gifts to fellow cat lovers!
After reading these social protest poems, I’ve seen the light. I think I finally understand. I will support their cause because I really don’t want to sleep on the floor. And when the cat revolt begins in earnest, I will wave a copy of this book high overhead and yell, “I’m with you! The sofa is yours!” To the barricades, singing “La Meowseillaise!”
Hysterically funny quick read of poems by a cats view on all subjects . I laughed throughout and loved it!
This book is funny. If you are a cat owner you will get everything the cats are saying and trying to do. This book is a quick set of poems. You will laugh at each poem and what's better then laughing while reading. I do believe that cats feel this way a lot of the times. If you are looking for something about cats, funny and quick to read pick up this book.
*I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
Although slightly more socially and politically aware than previous titles in the series, Claw the System doesn't stray too far outside of its territory or go off tone at any point. This kitty call to arms is highly likely to bring more than a few smiles to the faces of cat owners or any animal lover out there, The pictures are adorable and chuckle-worthy to look at, the verse is as humorous as ever.
I liked it a lot.
This was an ARC in exchange for an honest review. With thanks to Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing.
Whether you love or hate cats, try this book. The author gives you the prospective on what goes on the mind if a cat, with laugh out loud tales. If you need something to give you a laugh, I urge you to try this little gem. Some of these poems almost seem like they could be applied to situations we are seeing or reading about daily, but at the end, we see it's just the cat rationalizing their lot in life. I want to say it is beautifully illustrated, but to me pictures are not illustrations, that being said, the pictures are wonderful. To me, most of the situations are for children of all ages. The book is like an updated version of T. S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review, and will post it to GoodReads, Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Facebook.
Tired of the same old political arguments and parties? Claw the System gives voice to a little heard (in English), but much evidently much-abused constituent of our world: cats.
You may have heard of Francesco Marciuliano's other books, I Could Pee on This and its sequel, I Could Pee on This, Too, so you'll recognize a theme in the author's work. I hadn't read either of Marciuliano's other books before starting Claw the System, but I was amused by this book.
Claw the System is set up to portray a societal uprising of sorts, by cats and for cats. Each section, from "Recognize" to "Rebuild" featured poetry from the viewpoint of felines about their struggles and plans for taking back the power from the system. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed that I didn't find this book as funny as I'd hoped. I love cats, and the premise sounds hilarious, but most of the poems fell short, while others got a smile. I enjoyed the photography almost as much as the actual text.
I would recommend this book as a short, fun read that also might be a good selection for your coffee table, but it sounds like the author's previous books might be a bit more laugh-out-loud funny, so I'll be checking those out soon.

THE PRESS
There is nothing more important
Than the press
There is nothing more indispensable
Than the press
There is nothing we need more right now
Than the press
Of my paw
Against the lips
Of anyone spewing hatred
Right after that paw has been in the litter box
MENTAL HEALTH DAY
When you can’t lift your head up
When you can’t raise your hopes up
When you can’t get yourself up
To face another day
Remember
You can still bring your leg up
And lick yourself down there
For like hours if you want
Because you have to take care of yourself
Before you can take on this world
The cats are fed up with our BS – and, in addition to silly Halloween costumes, tasteless kibble, and sleeping past 3AM, I’ve got to believe that the 2016 election has a little something to do with it. Normally felines would not deign to involve themselves in something as crass as human politics, but come on! The death of democracy and all that jazz. Plus where are they going to get their cat dancers and laser pointers if Drumpf starts a trade war with China, hmmm?
The clues are sometimes subtle, but look closely and you’ll see ’em. With chapter headings like Recognize, Resist, Revolt, and Rebuild, and poems celebrating the “press” and advocating for mental health days, these cats are obviously #withher. They dislike voter disenfranchisement almost as much they hate your best friend’s handsy toddler.
So this is a cute idea that gets stale about halfway through the book. Unsurprisingly, my favorites were the more radical poems in the bunch. Some are straight-up meme-worthy; the rest are good for a chuckle or two, hence the middling rating. The cat photos range from adorable to downright fierce.
Should you find yourself guffawing at the very idea of feline resistance, you owe it to yourself to read Jason Hribal’s FEAR OF THE ANIMAL PLANET: THE HIDDEN HISTORY OF ANIMAL RESISTANCE.
So I’m not really a poetry person, but I had hoped that the humour of this book would overpower this.
Sometimes it did. There were a few poems that made me really laugh out loud and I read a couple of them out loud to my mum.
But some of them felt less like poems and more just like sentences where the writer had pressed the enter key in the middle of sentences and called it a poem. But maybe that’s just me not being a poetry person? I don’t know.
There are some very adorable photos of cats throughout the book. I was also showing those to my mum while I was reading.
I enjoy cats, and I would have one if my partner were not allergic and if we could afford it. But maybe I’m not quite enough of a cat person to fully enjoy this one.
Many thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I appreciated being able to read this book before it was published. I had read other books by this author and liked them.
This one didn't make me laugh out loud quite as much as the others I have read, but I definitely still enjoyed it. The poems are cute and I love all the pictures of cats.
Any time you want to laugh out loud or find yourself chuckling pick up one of Francesco Marciuliano’s books of feline observations and thoughts. Beginning with I Could Pee on This, Mr. Marciuliano’s uncanny ability to capture the feline voice that produces amusing perspectives on human/cat relationships is unmatched.
Any of Mr. Marciuliano’s books (especially those written by cats) make great gifts – recipients always call to thank you for the laughter and lightness. And I can tell you, from personal experience, Mr. Marciuliano has discovered a very talented group of felines willing to share their talent. Eleven cats have shared their homes with me over the past 40 years, so I can attest to behavior that supports everything Mr. Marciuliano shares.
Take a break today. Get one of Francesco Marciuliano’s books of cat poems and settle in for a laugh filled afternoon.
