This is a short read about being kind. It has colorful illustrations and the text flows well,
I loved reading this to my kids as a bedtime story and they enjoyed it as well. A great book to get your early readers started on the journey to the love of reading and books!
Very sweet and whimsical story. I loved the underlining message but more than that I LOVED the illustrations. They were very friendly and vivid sure to capture the attention of young readers.
A sweet story about how to make others shine with compliments. While Fox, Dog and friends are looking at the stars they notice some shine brighter than others and they begin to notice that the stars chine brighter with they say nice things. Kids, and adults, can always use a lesson in building each other up so we all shine a little brighter.
Beautiful illustrations.
I was given an advanced copy through NetGalley in exchange for my review. All opinions are my own and I was not required to give a positive review.
This is a cute book with wonderful illustrations. They have a lot of detail and expression and the colours are soft and muted. It is sure to appeal to young children and their parents. This would be a great story to read before bedtime, after all, it is about stars. The message is about giving compliments to one another. Now, this book is not at all scientific, so if you are a firm believer in always being honest about facts, this would not be a book for you or your child.
Dog and Fox are looking at the stars one night when Fox asks why some are big and some are small. Dog's answer is because they are growing, just like us. When we say nice things to others, their heart grows, so when we say nice things about them, they grow. All the animals stand around watching as more and more compliments are given to the star until ...... I read this book to my granddaughter and she understood that they were being nice and the star was getting bigger, but the word compliments was a over her head. She loved the illustrations and we talked a lot about them as we read the book.
Once again, I think this is a great bedtime story for younger children that also teaches a message. The publisher, Clavis Publishing, generously provided me with a copy of this book to read. The rating, opinions and ideas are my own.
The illustrations in this book are amazing. 5* There is so much texture, and color spread that it pops off the page. Saying that, that same texture can make some of the pages hard to read. This is a story about heart. About saying and meaning nice things. That it makes others feel nice, and you feel nice as well. The message is sound, if not a little long, but the illustrations more than make up for that.
*thank you to Netgalley and Clavis Publishing for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
2 stars.
I don't get it. While the illustrations were excellent, that was pretty much all I liked. The story did not interest me at all and if I had read this to my little niece I don't think she would have cared for it either. But the illustrations atleast improve my star rating. This just wasnt for me.
The Brightest Star stands out the most to me for its brilliant illustrations. My daughter really enjoyed having this read to her before bedtime. It has a lovely message of kindness and compliments to others.
What the world needs now is a HUGE dose of the message from this book. Everyone needs to tuck its message in their heart and practice it every day to those around them. It's inspiring theme is to give compliments and positive thoughts to others making them grow in self-confidence and sparkle in a sometimes a dark and dreary world.
Fox and Dog star-gaze together one lovely summer night. They dreamily fixate their gaze into the heavens and discover that when they compliment one particular bright star it grows bigger and brighter. Other woodland animals gather around to see this bewitching star and they are mesmerized by its brilliance.
Dog says, I think that stars grow when you say nice things about them... "You're so beautiful, star." or, "You're shining very bright tonight."
"Oh," Fox whispers. "And then the star becomes bigger?"
"Of course", Dog says. "When I give you a compilment,
your heart grows. It is the same with stars."
Fox nods. That's true he thinks."
The two keep feeding positive thoughts to the star and it continues to expand in size. Suddenly it shoots through the night sky and falls. Oh my! Did Dog and Fox weigh it down with too many compliments? Where did it go? As they look around they observe a warm glow all through the woods. Ahhhh Dog deduces... all their "Nice thoughts fell to earth with the star."
The illustrations are adorable and the overall message is a powerful one. It marries curiosity with caring and kindness and it works. It is a subject matter that matters in our sometimes hostile and uncaring world. Recommended by Storwraps.
Illustrations are colourful and good. Text seemed a little small. Good message on having nice thoughts and giving compliments.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the eARC.
This book is simple, beautiful and meaningful. I think it's a great book to be read with your little ones. It gives a message about being kind & not to be afraid to give compliments. It encourage readers to compliment more, and I like that.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Clavis Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Ok I couldn't get the kindle version to display in a way I could see it. Hopefully that will get fixed. It's an okay little book. I think the concept of complements will go over most kids head. Nice thoughts they will understand but they don't verbalize them much in the book. Why did the star fall? That was confusing and if asked I couldn't explain to a small child. The graphics are nice. I give this a 3 star rating.
I loved this story! As I was reading it, I was imagining sharing this with my 4 year old goddaughter. She would love the inventive tale and the opportunity to create her own compliments for the star. I would love to be able to lay outside in her backyard under the stars and share the story together, and then search for our own brightest star.
I love how there is a subtle moral aspect to the story, and how lifting up and complimenting another brought the whole community together. It's a great thing to feature, especially at this time when kids are going back to school. Compliments beget compliments and self-esteem all around.
The illustrations were also fantastic. We will enjoy looking at all of the animals and the night sky, which is so full of possibility!
This story has a sweet and unique premise and delightful illustrations. I like the theme of giving compliments. Children will enjoy reading and rereading this cute story.
A quintessential little tale of two friends sharing a peaceful and quiet time looking at the night sky and all that abodes there. Simply beautiful, a caring and inspirational book for kids, that shows the worth of saying good things about and to others, and what kindness is. Its illustrations are quirky, fun and playful, a lovely bedtime story for any child.
This is a very special and sweet book that is sure to appeal to young children and their parents. The Brightest Star’s message is a positive one — giving compliments will grow your heart just like having positive thoughts about a star will cause it to grow bigger and brighter.
Two BFFs, Dog and Fox, are looking at the stars one night when Fox asks why some are big and some are small. Dog has the answer — it’s because they are growing, just like us and when we say nice things about them, they grow. Ah, the power of compliments - a positive and useful message for the younger set. Be kind and positive and good things happen.
The illustrations are just amazing — they are cute and sweet, in soft colors with a lot of detail and expression. Fantastic art!
Thank you to NetGalley and Clovis Publishing for this advance reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
I would like to compliment the illustrator of this book. They are beautifully illustrated and calming to look at. In the days of rudeness and children with no manners, it is good to see a positive book about compliments. Dog and Fox are having a good evening looking at stars. Dog tells Fox that if you compliment the star it will grow bigger. The story goes from there with the star growing bigger. I like that some of the important words are in different script. This is a warm and fuzzy book for everyone (i am a Grandma and loved it). Would make a great bedtime story. I recommend it for 3-5 yr. olds. Beginning readers could read it but would need help with some words.
A little hard to read due to formatting on Kindle. We still really enjoyed the story and would pick up as a fiscal book.
I requested this beautifully illustrated book without thinking of how this picture book would read on my small paper white kindle. Unfortunately I cannot read the small words and it is not adjustable. But I will say the pictures are not a disappointment! I will have to look for this book because the illustrations are adorable and I want to read it even more now!
Thank you Netgalley for this copy.
The Brightest Star is just a lovely book, it’s so important for kids to treat each other kindly and understand the importance of words and how they make you feel. The illustrations compliment the story beautifully. A great book with a fantastic message.
