Rachel Lynch really can never do wrong with her books! I have loved every single one of her releases for the D.I. Porter series and 'Dead End' continued to prove that this series could just go on forever and I would never be bored!
I really loved the different story-lines within this book, as it all begun to connect in one way or another. Whilst there was little amount of culprits, Rachel still had me guessing up until the very end because she made me believe that the actual culprit had nothing to do with it.
Of course, I still adore reading all about Kelly's personal life as well and it was extremely devastating to see how the aftermath of the previous book with her sister had made such an impact on how the family is living in the present. Kelly has become such an admirable character to me and has such a special place in my heart, I can't wait to continue reading about all of the adventures Kelly goes on next!
This was a great story. Lots of action, twists and turns and all set in the beautiful surroundings of Cumbria. Some really good characters with interesting interactions. A really good conclusion. Thoroughly enjoyable read.
I loved "Dark Game" so I was really looking forward to reading "Dead End". If you enjoy this series, you won't be disappointed into this investigation into the disappearance/murder of young women. While there aren't many suspects, so it's not that difficult to figure out who the culprit is, what makes this interesting are the various back stories and the underlying macro story surrounding DI Kelly Porter and her family.
While I wouldn't say this was anything special or out of the ordinary, it's certainly enjoyable and keeps you hooked throughout.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC without obligation.
have read the two prior books in the series and enjoyed this one as much. I would recommend to read in order, the characterisation of Kelly and the other regulars are as much a part of the storyline as the plot. There were intertwining plots which all came together in the end. From the first book, I don't think we're supposed to like Kelly too much. I believe this to be so that we can grow to like her a little bit as time goes on. I think that we're to further understand why she's so abrupt, and at times lacking in empathy. I think part of the author's premise is for us to follow her mental and emotional enlightenment as time time goes on. That's my thoughts, I have found this is how I am feeling about Kelly by the third book I am very much excited for the fourth book.
The first book in the series I have read but will certainly read the others.
Fast paced with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing, great characterisation. I was quickly drawn into the story and I enjoyed the glimpse into the trials and tribulations of Kelly Porters private life.
A great British crime thriller!
‘Dead End’ is the third book in the series featuring D.I Kelly Porter. It is set in the beautiful countryside of the Lake District and it is certainly a great British crime thriller!
For fans of this genre, it could be read as a stand-alone tale, but it is helpful to have read the previous two books, in order to become acquainted with some of the characters. D.I. Kelly Porter takes her job seriously and this investigation certainly contains numerous twists and turns. Kelly is very much a detective who likes to work at the grassroots level, rather than accept any promotions.
From the outset, the reader learns of the curious death of the elderly Earl of Lowesdale who resided at Wasdale Hall. It looks like suicide... but was it? His grandson Zac is left mystified.
Running concurrently Kelly has to also to look into the mysterious disappearance of two girls, Hannah and Sophie who were hiking in the stunning countryside. This opened up another case of two more missing girls. How are the two investigations linked?
Suffice it to say Kelly’s resolve is strong until she finally reaches the truth, even if it means that her relationship comes second. I enjoyed the fact that she is a feisty lady and I’m sure that others will too. I’ll look out for more in this series.

Excellent read - I read the first book in the series and enjoyed it so was delighted to come across this one too. I liked the Lake District location, there don't seem to be too many books set in this area, so it's enjoyable reading about the national park area. Good to e characters developing and relationships between them are well described. The story has several surprising twists and kept me going to the end. DI Kelly Porter is an interesting character who is developing well, I'll be watching out for the next in the series Recommended.
Another fab book with DI kelly porter at the helm, I find this character thoroughly endearing and engaging. This is another great novel with a storyline that keeps you second guessing right to the very end!
This is the first of the novels about DI Kelly Porter that I have read and it will not be my last, I don’t feel that you need to read the previous novels to get a grip of this one. This story is set in the Lake District in Cumbria where two young female hikers have gone missing from the base camp and it is down to DI Porter to find them before alive and well.
Running alongside this is the mystery of the apparent suicide of and old earl, who seemingly hung himself in his own country manor. However, all is not what it seems and it does not appear likely that the elderly man would have the strength to commit this final act.
Many twists were seen in this novel by Rachel Lynch and had me truly guessing to the end who was to blame for the crimes. I will certainly go back to the first two novels in the series and catch up.
Okay so to start with I am loving Johnny and I really like his and Kelly's relationship! I love that we have the same characters reappearing and we still see the teamwork between the police.
I really liked the lasting effects of Deep Fear are still present in this book and although I had to say Nikki was a right asshole and she was being really horrid to Kelly and I didn't like it.
I love how perceptive Kelly is!
I didn't see some of the family secrets coming so it was really interesting to learn about them and I can't wait to know more.
I do have to say after a certain incident in the book I guessed who the killer was, and I'm actually proud that I did guess lol!
I really enjoyed the story and I am very interested to read the next one!
Really enjoyed this book. It was gritty and fast paced and kept me hooked right through to the end. Good characters and plenty of tension throughout. Can't wait to read more of the series!
I have been really enjoying this series, I love the characters and the setting is great – I was delighted to see that this new book, Dead End was being released and I am so pleased to say it is a brilliant addition to the series!
I do love a good crime thriller and police procedural and this has been a great series for me, it is well written and the series and characters have developed with each book and this one has the same great writing style and additive nature.
This one is fine to read as a standalone, but if you get the opportunity to read the series from the first book, I’d really recommend it as you will get more out of the characters and see them develop.
4.5 stars from me for this one, rounded up to 5 stars for Goodreads and Amazon – another great addition to the series – very highly recommended!!
Excellent read - I had read the first book in the series and enjoyed it and thoroughly enjoyed this one too. I enjoy the Lake District location and found this to be a well written and interesting story. Recommended.
Absolutely loved this book. The feel of location was brilliant, who does not love The Lake District.
The strong women described were brilliant and the whole plot kept me guessing throughout,.
I would love to read more by Rachel Lynch. Brilliant.
Thoroughly enjoyed this latest book in the DI Kelly Porter series. Rachel Lynch is great at setting scenes, and her plots are well thought out and believable.
Kelly is a good, strong character with a determination to get to the truth. I like the mix of characters - particularly the regulars, who we are getting to know more with every outing - and their various relationships. I love the setting for the books, and the way that the author seems to understand the lifestyles and mindsets of the people who inhabit the landscape.
Looking forward to the next in the series - I'm assuming there will be one!!
My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC in return for my honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. it has it all suspense, mystery, The characters are believable and it is well-written I am looking forward to the next one.
Thanks to Netgalley, Rachel Lynch and Canelo for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this series over the last few days and though I have marked this one slightly lower it was still a gripping read which kept me guessing. My issue was that the two storylines running concurrently seemed to be completely unrelated and this didn’t just keep me guessing as to how they would thread together but gave the book a disjointed feel. Also the flashbacks to the party days of Warsdale didn’t feel fully explored and fleshed out. I am looking forward to the next instalment though! Thanks to Netgalley, the author and Canelo for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
I was so engrossed in these books that I read all 3 one after the other. DI Porter was wonderful and she deserved to be respected for what she was doing. The way the books carried on from each other was very well written and the story lines were very easy to become totally absorbed in. I will continue to look for these and carry on reading more of her stories. Can’t wait to see what happens with Johnny.
I received this book from Netgalley having never read anything by this author before.
I was very pleasantly surprised, this is a mystery with interesting characters and a number of intriguing offshoots along the way to keep the reader guessing to the very end.
Overall this was a very enjoyable and engrossing read that I was sad when the ending and thoroughly plausible conclusion arrived.
This was a pretty good read, although I figured out most of the twists way ahead of time. Good writing though, and enough false leads to keep it interesting. And surprisingly given the subject, nothing too disturbingly graphic. I would read this author again.
