This is a cute, enjoyable beginning chapter book about rescuing animals. Four friends start a club called The Pet Rescue Club. Their goal is to help pets, some are lost, some need a new home and some are looking for foster families. Using their technology skills, word of mouth and sometimes just plain nosiness, they help three different animals in this book. Sometimes they rescue humans too.

The story starts with Janey receiving a tablet for her birthday. She begins a blog where people can share cute pet photos and stories. She never imagined she’d receive a heartbreaking photo of a skinny, abandoned dog. Janey was not friends with Zach when the story begins, she thinks he is annoying and a bit of a bully. When she gives him a chance, she finds out he wants to be friends and has a lot of technical knowledge to help out with the blog. Janey, Lolli, Adam and Zach, form The Pet Rescue Club and try to find the abandoned dog. When these animal-loving fourth graders discover how many animals need help in their suburban hometown, they can’t just sit by and do nothing. I love their innovative approaches to solving the problems, they are willing to try anything to save these animals.

If you are looking for a good book to give a young reader who loves animals, this would be an excellent choice. It is both inspiring and informative. The stories are also based on real animals. These stories could have turned out to be very sad. From animals that are no longer wanted due to behaviour, babies in the family, moving etc. to a large dog that is injured accidentally, these stories could happen in any community and there are good lessons for young people who will be our future pet owners. And the illustrations were great. They were fun, cute and really showed the personalities of the animals. The final bonus is that by buying this book you are also helping to rescue pets. 5-7% of the purchase price of every ASPCA® (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) Pet Rescue Club book goes directly to the ASPCA® A definite addition to my family library and I recommend it to families, schools, public libraries and classroom teachers.

Princess Fuzzypants here: If you are looking for a good book to give a young reader who is animal-crazy, this would be an excellent choice. The story of four friends who want to help animals is both inspiring and informative. It is also entertaining. The stories are also based on real animals.
The kids form the Pet Rescue Club and they help some dogs and a kitty find their furever homes. From the poor abandoned dog to the senior cat to the great big dog who has hurt himself trying to make his master happy, they are inventive and resourceful in their efforts. Along the way there are some great messages for the readers based on real shelter experiences. In fact, many of the stories rang all too true to my humans who have volunteered for decades. The first two stories were particularly poignant.
So often people have animals that they abuse. They either do not know or do not care and it is the animal who suffers. Far too often as well there are long standing members of the family who are cast aside when something changes like a baby or a move. Thankfully for the two animals in the stories, the kids were there to protect and rescue them. Sadly not all dogs and cats are so lucky.
But don’t think this book is down hearted at all. It is uplifting and entertaining. It might even be the purrfect last minute gift idea.
Four purrs and two paws up.

My second grade daughter loves anything animals and pets. This book I felt piqued her interest. The one she read was No time for Hallie. She loved the characters and the problems and trials they encountered. We read the book for a few nights for bedtime. This book was great for her as a budding reader. She wanted more books to read from the Pet Rescue Club. I am glad that this one comes with three stories that build up and references one another.

I read through the other books, and there were times in the book where I wished the adults had more of a solid role that was a bit more present than absent,

For example: There were definitely big emotions from Janey in A New Home for Truman that I just could not believe were not really worked out between her and her parents. Between my daughter and I we have big emotions, and not being able to see things worked out in a book makes it a bit disappointing to me. My daughter picks up on things quickly, and I would not want her to learn that running off to a friend's house to face disappointment is acceptable. In A New Home for Truman Janey is expecting a dog as her surprise birthday present. When things do not go as expected, she is truly upset. In the next few sentences she informs her parents that her friend's parents are picking her up. When she returns, she apologizes thanks them for the presents, and the parents are just merely relieved that she's cooled off. I would have loved to see them work through this and talk it out a bit more. I don't know. I'm not altogether for this book, but I love the concept of kids helping out animals in need.

In the matter of Hall Cat: I felt that representing a young family with a new born could have been a bit better. We see the young dad answering the door "annoyed" and a frustrated Zach trying to figure out what to do to get this person to keep his cat safely indoors. Many times Zach just yells at his dad telling him that he's off.

I think that adults can play a huge part in affecting kids in a positive way. I really hope that other books from the Pet Rescue Club would feature the adults in these kids lives that offered wisdom and even just a positive influence on ways to help the animals they opt in to help. I think I'll just have to keep that portal of communication open with my daughter. I would recommend this book but give a caution up for parents to proofread the book and be ready to discuss things that come to your attention.

Overall, the Pet Rescue Club stories and how kids help others find just the right pet for their lives is a really fun series. This book does well in helping kids understand that though a pet is cute and adorable--it might not always be their best decision. It does well in finding the right pet to fit a person's needs and expectations. At the end of each story the kids get to "Meet the Real" dog or cat of the story. Seeing the real life inspiration and hearing their adoption story is a really neat.

All three stories in this book teach children a valuable lesson about animals plus they are really good stories. If your child is an animal lover they will love this book. This book is very well written. Thank you Printers Row Publishing Group Studio Fun International via Netgalley for the ARC copy of this book. This is my honest opinion of this book.

Adore creatures of all sorts so HAD to review “ASPCA Kids Pet Rescue Club Collection” by Catherine Hapka. Plus, 5-7% of the purchase price of every copy goes directly to the ASPCA® so they can continue the important mission of helping the helpless, with a minimum donation of $50,000 through December 2019. In this fun and inspiring collection of three books in one, The Pet Rescue Club must work together to save three helpless pets — a skinny dog named Truman, an older cat named Hallie, and a giant dog named Maxi. It starts when Janey begins a blog where people can share cute pet photos and stories. She never imagined she’d receive a heartbreaking photo of a skinny, abandoned dog. She calls on her friends Lolli, Zach, and Adam to help—and that’s just the start! When these animal-loving fourth graders discover how many animals need help in their suburban hometown, they can’t just sit by and do nothing. Will the Pet Rescue Club find a way to help? Read along to find out!

Highly highly recommended for the heartwarming story, beautiful illustrations and the donation to the critically important work of the ASPCA® with every purchased book!
