A look through this title shows that there will be lots of good reading this fall. Nine novels are excerpted in this volume. Here they are:
My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite
Sight by Jessie Greengrass
The Adults by Caroline Hulse
The Water Cure by Sophie Mackintosh
The Kennedy Debutante by Kerri Maher
Tell Me You're Mine by Elisabeth Noreback
We Cast a Shadow by Maurice Carlos Ruffin
One Day in December by Josie Silver
Ways to Hide in Winter by Sarah St. Vincent
There is an incredible range within these titles; some are dark, some are suspenseful, some have romance and one is based upon a real person. There are mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, men and women; a wide array of fictional choices. It was a pleasure to read the excerpts and now I look forward to reading some of these books. You will too!
I love Penguin Random House samplers! It’s like the appetizer before the amazing main course! I am very much looking forward to reading the books included in this Fall 2018 sampler.
Special thanks to Netgalley and Penguin Random House!
I appreciate being able to sample some of the upcoming debut novels. For whatever reason, the formatting on this was messed up, the text seems to drop ff or th characters pretty consistently, making reading this like a puzzle. I'll give 5 stars for good intent but actually, could read only with great difficulty.
This is a great start to get readers interested enough to actually read the books. I think it would be a good book for a library display.
This sampler is very helpful. It’s a wonderful way to preview and get a sense of the books before committing to reading the entire book. I appreciated the various genres and subject matter. I liked all nine books in this selection. I highly recommend this sampler.
I loved this bunch of fiction teasers!! I want to read all of these books to completion. I can't wait!!
This sampler is very helpful! I appreciate the variation in style, subject, and genre. This is a great way to get a sense of (debut) fiction without the need to commit to reading and reviewing an entire title. Thank you, PRH, for offering this great resource!
These samplers offer the librarian or reviewer a snippet so that we can trim our overflowing TBR pile. When we have access to just enough of an upcoming title we are then able to know exactly whose hands to put the book into when it is released. I am always excited to read an author's first book. It is like welcoming a new friend into the group.
These were awesome excerpts from some of the books I am looking forward to. I especially liked The Kennedy Debutante. Thank you!
The first time I found a book sampler collection, my book-loving heart was ecstatic. I know quite a few readers that have very strong opinions regarding book excerpts( they love them or they hate them). I continue to reside firmly on the 'yes, more please' side, since some book descriptions are short and can be misleading. It is rare for me not to be able to decide if the book is for me or not after one or two chapters. Full disclosure, so far one book that I chose based on an excerpt did not work for me, but the other forty-two have been as good as or better than that 'taste' let me imagine. There have probably also been some samples I read and passed on that might have gotten much better as they progressed, but, I would have to live forever to read every book that has and will make my list, so I am fine with missing a couple here or there.
As for this Fall 2018 Debut Fiction Sampler, all I can say is what wasn't there to love? Nine debut fiction authors I was unfamiliar with, several that made my TBR pile, and if I had to pick just one that I am most excited about, it would be My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite. It is quite different from anything I have read and without wishing my life away, is it November yet(US publication date 11-20/2018). There isn't one in this collection I didn't like. If you enjoy reading excerpts, I recommend this collection.
Thank you Penguin Random House and NetGalley for this sampler.
Thank you for this great compilation of excerpts from fall releases! I’m looking forward to a few of them and cannnot wait to pick them up.
This is a great fiction sampler. The samples are just long enough to be able to establish whether you think you may enjoy a book. It is also well formatted and includes images of the book covers.
Many thanks to Penguin Random House and NetGalley for providing a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you Penguin Random House publishing for this great sample of upcoming fiction publishing this fall.
This is the first sampler I've read and got down to reviewing, and for what it's worth, I cannot wait to read three titles herein, some appealed to me and others, I couldn't say much on them. I reckon it's what makes this such an awesome sampler, because it gave me bits of everything, from writers, narratives, settings, plots and most of all characters. Thank you Netgalley for the eARC.
Thank for this glimpse into what debut authors will be offering us this fall. The samplers help guide decisions and directions for reviewers, buyers and others.
Thank you so much for putting together these excerpts. My TBR list grew exponentially. This year seems like such a great year for books!
So excited to have discovered the Penguin Random House Fall 2018 Debut Fiction Sampler, with its fine eclectic mix of nine authors, with works ranging from literary fiction to mysteries to tales of dystopian worlds. Each one is a gem and well worth the read. Highly recommended!
