Ryan writes great mysteries, and No Escape Claws is one of her best. Her characters are fantastically written, and the mysteries are always well plotted.
Sarah with her cat Elvis has No Escape Claws; a friend has asked Sarah to investigate the conviction of her father for the death of her mother. So Sarah with her friends upends her small town to find the real culprit. Great cozy for a quiet afternoon reading.
Sarah and Elvis make their 6th appearance in the second Chance Cat Mystery series and it's a good story. Sarah runs a second hand shop in North Harbor, Maine and she's buying some abandoned storage units to fill the store for the tourist who visit. Mallory wants Sarah and her elderly team of sleuths to investigate her father's crime to prove he's innocent and get him out of prison. While the story is stand alone the background of the Angel Detective Characters can be a little confusing without previous information. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Too many indinstinquishable characters! Nothing, NOTHING, distinquished one elderly man or woman from another ... who was her grandmother, who was the mother of the detective, WHO lived in the rooms above the heroine (who's name I can't reall).
Forgettable .... even when reading it. Could not keep track of who was who.
Sarah Grayson runs a quaint secondhand shop with the help of a few of her grandmother’s closest friends. The seniors, also, have their own detective agency they operate out of Sarah’s shop. Often Sarah, along with her furry friend Elvis, lend them a helping hand and/or paw.
Teenager Mallory Pearson begs the group to help get her father out of jail. He's been accused and found guilty of negligence in a house fire which caused his wife's death. The detectives have their work cut out for them. It's especially hard since Mallory's father took a plea deal and doesn't want the investigation to continue. They aren’t totally sure her father is innocent, but they suspect there is more to this story than meets the eye.
This is the sixth book in this fun series. I always love revisiting Elvis (and his humans, too). Elvis has a few cute scenes in this book, but it’s not enough for me. Of course I could never have too many kitty scenes in any book.
I’ve been reading this series since the beginning and it’s always good for some laughs and intriguing mysteries. This is no exception. The characters and their relationships continue to grow with each new book. The storyline moves at a nice pace and it’s filled with so many twists and turns it makes your head spin. I thought I figured it all out, but I was slightly off track.
I’m always left wanting more when I finish one of these. I’m already counting down to when the next one comes out. I’m going to need another Elvis fix soon!
"No Escape Claws" is a cozy mystery. It is the sixth book in the series, but you don't need to read the previous books to understand this one. This book did not spoil any of the previous mysteries.
The main characters were nice, engaging people. They were trying to prove that a person hadn't committed a crime, so they also had to prove who did do it. The amateur detectives asked questions and looked into various alibis. I immediately realized that the judge's identification of the culprit was based mostly on the hat (which is a clue that got them asking the right questions), but it took a very long time for the characters to figure that out. I also correctly realized whodunit a good bit before the main characters. The cat didn't even play much of a role except that of "cute cat."
There were no sex scenes. There was a minor amount of bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable mystery.
This is the sixth book in the Second Chance Cat Mystery series. I've read most of them and they are all enjoyable. They follow the tales of Sarah, the Second Chance antique shop owner and her cat named Elvis. Also joining the cast of lovable characters is Sarah's grandma and her friends that are amateur sleuths. I really enjoyed this mystery and found it a fast and enjoyable read. I did really miss Sarah's friend Mac's presence in the book, even though he does make a few appearances. Looks like he'll be in the next one though, so I'm looking forward to it! I would highly recommend this series.
I've been a fan of Elvis, Sarah and the Angels since the beginning. This one didn't quite grab me as much as previous ones...Elvis didn't get up to much, few details of the Second Chance, and I missed the interactions between Mac and Sarah. However, the Angels really came into their own and the addition of Nick to the group was a real plus. I enjoyed the book and look forward to seeing more Elvis hi-jinks in the future.
Sarah's shop is thriving, but she is missing her right-hand helper. The detective agency run by her grandmother's friends out of her shop keeps her on her toes, and they have another case. Sarah juggles keeping the senior members in her life safe, while also helping to set an innocent man free and back to his family. Along the way she may find that heart is more engaged than she realized.
I love this series. How can you not love Elvis? The Angels are a fun group of older ladies. I liked that Nick was willing to work with them this time instead of trying to stop them (giving in to the inevitable?) I like the interaction between Sarah and her relatives and friends. While I was able to figure out the mystery it didn't interfere with my enjoyment of the book. I look forward to more books in the series and a continuation of developing relationships.
I received an eARC from the publisher via NetGalley for my honest review. I want more Elvis and Mac!
I really like this series, but I felt this book kind of feel a little short. I wasn't as entertained as past books and it felt like it was lacking. I will continue with the series, because I did enjoy the first few books in it. And I have hopes that it will get back to that level.
Another pleasant entry in the Second Chance Cat series of cozy mysteries. Sarah's elderly friends and relations once again draw her into investigating a death--which might be an accident or suicide. Elvis the cat doesn't play a big role in this one, but the shifting characters make up for it.
Not the best in the series, but well worth reading.
